Shreve & Co.

Had my Submariner serviced recently. Final price was 25% over the quoted range. The sales and staff attitude was awful. The sales person actually told me they hate doing watch servicing since they don’t make money doing it; they just do it hoping you will come back to buy something. I then took my wife’s DateJust to Davidson & Licht in Walnut Creek; total opposite experience… friendly, knowledgeable, immediately felt at ease and zero sense of arrogance.

I needed high-​end watch service… and I trust them. Wish I’d had time to drink the Champagne they were serving! But I did leave my watch with them…
I haven’t purchased anything from them… yet. But I have been in there enough over the last few years for the staff to know me: I ask lot’s of questions and I never buy anything. And yet they are still… very very nice! I ask about watches, I ask about engagement rings (not yet!) I ask about gifts… always sweet, kind, and VERY knowledgeable.
So when I needed service on one of my Panerai watches I could have dropped it off in SF on Monday but instead I left it at Shreve in the Mall. Seeing the same staff working there year after year, and the fact that they really know their high-​end watches, (I’m a W.I.S!) I was happy to finally give them some business. Hint: Lot’s of watch-​stores don’t know about the fine watches, these guys have taught ME lots.
I noticed they were popping some Veuve Clicquot and passing the glasses as I left and it begs the question: Why NOT stop in Schreve every time I have a question? Champagne? Kind and knowledgeable staff? A ton of the best jewelry and watches to browse? Check check check. They won me over and I’m the most don’t-bug-me-or-sell-me-anything-but-answer-all-my-silly-questions kind of guy around. Stop in here first. Why not?!

Tony Gross is the person to go to! He has helped me purchase two Timepieces. He is super helpful! Knowledgeable and not pushy. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. I will definitely come back if i need to purchase anything from Shreve’s.

Mixed feeling. Did buy a Rolex there. Not because of the superior service, but because I wanted the watch from an authorized dealer. As usual, the salesperson size you up at first. Obviously did not get too much respect when I went in with running shoes and cheap jeans. I was invisible until I had to ask someone for help. The attitude was gradually getting better after I asked for the watch they don’t even carry in the store and had to be ordered. I think the service attitude start to match up to the store’s name after I placed a $ 1,000 deposit.
In my opinion, the staff in the Palo Alto store is too relax and lazy to even feel like servicing the customer.
I went to the Shreve. Co in downtown SF when I considered buying a Patek. The service in SF store was a lot more pleasant, but I also dressed up better on that day.

I took my Rolex SubC to get it sized, and the salesperson LISA, quite rude, unbecoming and snobby. Like? pathetic…
And the bracelet was not sized properly… so Now I am taking my business to Davidson in Santa Clara…

Thanks to Tony and Staci for excellent service. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgable and we’re looking forward to doing more business with them in the future.

Working with Craig Davis has been an absolute pleasure. Purchasing an engagement ring is quite involved, more than I expected, and Craig has been their from start to finish to walk me through the process. Not once have I felt taken advantage of or pressured, which was one of my greatest concerns prior to walking into Shreve & Co and meeting Craig. Craig knew my budget and worked closely with me to find something that worked perfectly. Me and my fiancée couldn’t be happier. It’s the perfect diamond for the perfect girl. Thanks Craig!!!

I initially contacted Tony about a specific model of watch, Tony noted that Shreve only carried a demo unit for this model. 20 minutes later he called me back with great news, after doing inventory they had the model in stock that I initially wanted. Tony held this piece on my behalf, after trying this model on i didn’t like how it looked on my wrist. Tony showed various models and I eventually found a alternative. During this process Tony showed more than half the watches available before I made my choice. He was an exceptional salesman and genuinely cared about helping me make the correct choice. From now on I’m looking for Tony Gross of Shreve co on the very rare occasion when I do buy high end jewelry.

This location was quite disappointing. Especially after the great first experience we had in the city shop — they didn’t have much to offer and didn’t seem all that interested in helping me look for alternatives so we were in and out of there in under 10 minutes.
If you’re looking for rings, you’d have better luck at the SF Shreve (but they’re moving and I’m not sure where to). If Stanford Mall is all you have time for and you actually want to see physical rings, try Gleim (they might not have what you want but they’re a whole lot more helpful).

I just received a very nice Rolex for my birthday. I needed to remove one link from the strap so that it would fit. Tony Gross at Shreve was the individual who helped me at the store. He was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. Fixed me up in a few minutes and sent me on my way. Great experience.

Great Service — Special ordered me a band for my Panerai. Would definitely recommend.

Went in to get my watch bracelet resized and was told that I had to leave it there and collect it in 2 days time. I asked why so, and was told that out of the 6 employees I saw milling around, nobody had time to help me out as they were all busy.
I ended up going in to Tourneau to get my watch bracelet resized (took 10 minutes).
Never stepping in to Shreve again. YMMV but I was greeted by a snotty sales rep who was not interested in assisting someone who did not appear to be making a purchase that day.

I have no idea why someone would make a purchase from this store. I walked in and no one really acknowledged my existence. I will purchase my Panerai elsewhere.

My boyfriend went to this store to re-​size his watch on Sunday around 5:30 and the store was actually closing at the same time. Luckily Robin was very nice enough to help him re-​size the watch. Thank you Robin!

Shreeve and Co provided the best service in Palo alto. I was greeted by Tony and he knew just which Rolex I was interested in based off my description. There was complimentary Champagne and pleasant conversation. The process of purchasing was much more streamlined than I had experienced at competitor locations. The same process would have taken an hour elsewhere. The merchandize was beautiful and I think I’ve found just the diamond bracelet for my wife.

Scammy place, they like hiding the price from you. And wow, the salespeople here are so mean! I’ve been to Shreve & Co a few times recently and it’s always been a negative experience. Snobby salespeople just ignore you, and are outright rude. They like to make sure you have the MONEY first. It’s all about money, what scammy guys. If you ask for a price, they just say «oh, that addition would cost just a few hundred bucks more, more or less.» The middle-​aged caucasian guy with short hair here was particularly bad.

My family has a 40+ year history buying jewelry and timepieces from the Shreve family. The service is normally impeccable and selection is very good, which is why I bought my two rolexes there.
My sister wanted to wear one. We went in to have it resized for her.
We approached the first employee there, a male, about 5’9″, balding blond-​ish hair, wearing a terrible olive colored suit. He looked at us condescendingly and said «Yes?» I asked to have it resized for her. He said «What do we have here? Oh an old rolex.» It was 2 years old. He did not ask where I bought it, and I allowed him to place his foot in his mouth, comment after comment about how it was in poor condition and a sub par piece. IShreve sold it to me. It was worn very few times. After more attitude, he brought it back from the technician and we left.
Whatever the sales person’s problem was, it caused me to spend my 45k engagement ring budget elsewhere. I almost suggested he look up how much money my family has spent at Shreve, but it is irrelevant because no one should have to deal with that kind of service.

My fiancée and I are are not your typical Shreve customers. We don’t wear anything designer and we wear jeans and t-​shirts wherever we go and are covered in tattoos. They have always been friendly and helpful every time we’ve ever been there regardless of the way we look.
There are two women who have been overly helpful with our rings. Their names are Mary and Eilene. They always call us to keep us in the loop with our rings since our wedding isn’t till November 2014. And every time we go in they offer us champagne… doesn’t get any better than this.

So let me tell you about how awful this place is. If you aren’t a blonde and blue eyes girl dressed up to go out, you will not get any service here, and you certainly won’t be offered champagne, etc, as the aforementioned girls were. We were in here looking at engagement rings and have never felt more disrespected in our lives. Get a clue, Shreve, this is Silicon Valley, people rocking hoodies and designer jeans can either be college kids on a budget or billionaires in the tech industry, treating someone like they don’t matter is a great way to insure you won’t earn their business.
I strongly suggest Gleim, they’re in the same mall and they will treat you with respect and make you feel welcome and that they actually want your business.
Thumbs down to Shreve, one of the most insulting experiences of my life!

I came here today to shop for straps for my Panerai, and after an awkward exchange with the salesperson — who immediately informed me that she was new and didn’t know much about Panerai (or anything else, for that matter) — I was referred to what I assumed to be the manager, who was disinterested and arrogant at best, and downright annoyed and exasperated by my questions at worst.
How incredibly short-​sighted to treat a customer in this way… would you have been more helpful and accommodating if you had known that aside from looking for straps for my existing watch, I was also in the market for a new watch? I am guessing yes. You should be ashamed of yourself, you miserable, pathetic troll.
I’ll keep this brief, since I could literally write a 4000-​word dissertation on what a complete shit-​show this store is, but I am over wasting any more of my life on this place… so here goes: do not come here. Do not spend your money here. Needless to say, I didn’t. They clearly don’t care if you do, so take your business elsewhere. As was pointed out in a previous review, the only reason this place survives is on account of its location in the Stanford Shopping Center.
Absolutely deplorable.
If you have to do business at Shreve & Co (which in the SF bay area is the case if you need anything Panerai-​related), take the trip up to the city instead. After my extremely disappointing experience in Palo Alto, I called the San Francisco store, and was taken care of by an incredibly helpful, knowledgable, and courteous sales associate. She also profusely apologized for the treatment I received in Palo Alto, but her lack of surprise seemed to indicate that this is not the first time a disgruntled customer sought refuge at the SF store after being treated like a second-​class citizen in Palo Alto.
