I found Daniel on Unilocal and his service is top notch and he saved me as El Niño was arriving. I was previously communicating with another tree service company my neighbor referred me to for my rental property in San Mateo. After a quote and several follow up phone calls from me, the owner of the other tree service company disappeared. Since it was getting very close to the holiday season, I frantically called a bunch of tree service companies in the Peninsula. As expected, no one returned my phone calls… except Daniel of JTS Tree Service! He gave me a very affordable quote to trim some big redwood trees and got to work within 24 hours of our initial phone call. At the same time, I got an emergency phone call from my HOA that a massive tree at my home in Half Moon Bay was falling and I needed to remove the tree ASAP. By then it was Christmas, I begged Daniel if he could come all the way to Half Moon Bay, which he did. His crew removed the tree immediately, cleaned up the site and a shortly after picked up a new tree and planted it for me. When I came home, it was as if the old tree was never there.

I called JTS to evaluate any needed tree pruning in advance of the expected stormy winter. Daniel showed me where the very tall Acacia had rotted through at the base (probably due to utility pole guy wire anchor). He recommended removing the tree, and gave me a very reasonable quote. I realized that it would have been much smarter if I had called JTS *before* I replaced the dead backyard lawn with new drought-​tolerant plants. That way when taking down the tree, the crew could have much more easily lowered branches to the dead lawn. Daniel assured me that they would protect my new plantings by using saw-​horses and plywood to cover the area. I admit that I was nervous about it – but the crew was extremely careful, and none of my new plants were hurt! The crew is also great at pruning — I’m happy to say that they don’t just lop off branches, but prune with an eye for keeping the trees balanced and beautiful.
Daniel’s customer service skills are outstanding! He was prompt in coming out to give me a quote; was able to schedule the work without delay; and followed up promptly on any questions/​concerns that I had.

They cleaned our trees and yard today. These guys are awesome. They worked almost all day without eating, drinking, or even going to the rest room (even though I asked multiple times to come in and use it). They were very flexible and reasonable. I highly recommend them!

I schedule him for the 1^st and I explained to him that there was a chance that the date might change depending on the city, he said don’t worry let me know if you need to change the date and I’ll take care of it.
The 1^st finally came and the Daniel and his team were there at 8am, they waited patiently for all the workers to move their cars… And they got to work as soon as the area was clean. They brought big equipment, placed orange cones everywhere for caution safety is always first…
I’ll definitely be calling Daniel for future jobs I’m super happy with his crew and his service!!!

So JTS stands for Jose Tree Service. And I believe Jose’s brother is Daniel Soto who is the main guy I dealt with here. (I think he has spun off his own business, DSoto Tree & Arborist Services. At least that’s what’s printed on his estimate & invoice.) Whatever – a rose by any other name smells just as sweet! We had a great experience. We got three quotes for removing & pruning several trees on our property. Daniel’s estimate was lowest. But the quality of workmanship & service from him and his crew was excellent. He is very knowledgeable about trees and really has an eye for spotting issues. He notices a broken branch in a tree we were keeping, like deep in the tree that we never noticed. And he correctly identified the types of all our trees. (The other arborists misidentified some.) Also they ad hoc onsite were able to grind out a few more stumps that I hadn’t noticed when we did the quote. Overall I really recommend them.

Had a large branch resting on the power lines to my house. Daniel came out and provided a quote, next day the branch was gone. Would have never known his team were there except no more branch. Fair price, quick service, definitely recommend!

I was just about to call it a day and head home when I heard a strange thud. After inspecting the area I realized a large limb from an oak tree had fallen off and was blocking the sidewalk and part of the street. The homeowners were out of contact on vacation, so I called around to see who could remove the limb because it was a safety hazard. Daniel, the owner, answered and sent his crew out immediately. The team showed up within half an hour to tackle the task.
JTS did a wonderful job and I would highly recommend them to anyone requiring tree service (emergency or otherwise).

We had an absolutely gorgeous heritage Douglas Fir close to the house, the invasive roots were destroying the driveway, plumbing and the foundation of our house. Sadly removal was the only option (other than tearing down the house!)
After getting a permit from the city Arborist to remove the tree I started researching on Unilocal I got 5 quotes. The quote provided by Daniel Soto of JTS Tree Service was the most reasonable but that was not the reason we chose them for the job. Unlike many tree services, they own a crane, so they are not subject to crane rental fees which is a variable cost at $ 200+ per hour. The other tree services wanted to take down the fence but the crane eliminated the need for that. The stellar Unilocal reviews were also a good sign. Aside from that Daniel is a certified arborist, he is friendly yet very professional and responsive to questions. He provided all of the requested documents (insurance).
The tree was huge as you can see from the photos, we hated to remove such a beautiful tree and we were very nervous about having such dangerous work done on our property. Daniel’s crew (including his dad) spent 3 days on the job. These guys know what they are doing. The tree was down by late afternoon, the stump grinding took 3 guys almost another 2 full days. They used the crane to lift the stump grinder (a serious piece of equipment) over the fence. By the time they left it sadly looked as though tree had never existed. But the job is done, so glad to have it behind us, next project: a new driveway.

It’s is easy to lose faith when you’ve been burned by a dishonest business. Such was my case when I hired a hack to trim my trees. Through fear-​mongering the hack convinced me to remove a beautiful atlas cedar and he topped many of my other trees. After weeks of lamenting over my loss I found JTS Tree Services on
, a site dedicated to the preservation of trees in the Bay Area. Daniel (who is ISA certified — a title important to look for in an arborist) of JTS came out on a Sunday to assess the damages. He was kind and sympathetic to my loss. At each moment of despair he provided hope. He was never false, always honest and very professional. He’s a busy guy but does his best to respond to emails and phone calls. He spent in total over 2 hours on the phone with me discussing the pros and cons of the right replacement tree to plant — and this was before I had ever signed a contract with them. He was never pushy, never the salesman; always the guy wanting his customer to be happy. Of course I hired JTS for the job and have been happy with them every step of the way so far. The guys that do the labor are equally sweet and honest. An all around wholesome group of people whom I hope to work with for many years to come. Thanks JTS

I hired JTS to remove a very large and very dead Monterrey Pine near the front of my house. It was a difficult job since the tree was next to phone and cable lines. The JTS crew came out with a cherry-​picker and was able to quickly and deftly remove the tree within a day’s work.
Things didn’t go off without a hitch. During the course of the removal, some falling wood damaged my neighbor’s brick paver driveway. However Daniel met with my neighbor and they came out the next week to fix the driveway. Before the tree stump could be removed, their large machine broke down and we needed to wait over a week before they could come back and do the job.
I thought about giving them 5 stars, the work was solid, but they were slow with communication and little things like sending a receipt. Nice guys, and if it’s a one day job where you’re there with them, you’ll probably be happy with it.

I called based on Unilocal reviews and had a five star experience. Daniel came out and gave me a fair estimate on grinding a large oak tree stump in my yard.
His crew arrived later in the week a few minutes early. The stump was gone in no time and they cleaned up the mess.

Daniel and his crew are extremely professional, fair, and courteous. They helped with a large tree and did a fantastic job. The yard was nicer and cleaner than when started.
Daniel always answers the phone and this is the best way to contact him.
I would recommend and hire again without reservation.

After reading reviews on Unilocal,I picked JTS to remove several trees on my property. I called and left a message and received a prompt response. Daniel came out the next day and gave me a quote. His quote was extremely reasonable. The crew came out the next day (in the rain!) and completed the job (6 trees removed– 4 citrus, 1 large birch and 1 dogwood) in half the time he quoted. The crew was nice and even fixed my gate for free. They also cleaned everything up and it looks like the trees were never there. I will definitely use them in the future and recommend them 100%. :)

I chose JTS based on Unilocal reviews. We had several sickly fruit trees that needed removal, and trees in our backyard too close to the fence that were damaging the wood. The latter needed to be removed with care to avoid damaging the fenceposts or the sprinkler system.
I had to reschedule the estimate once because they never showed up the first time. They were very nice and apologetic but I did take off one star for that. Their estimate was very good, and they were able to do the work within one week.
They removed the trees AND STUMPS! Awesome job, no damage to the fence or the sprinklers. Workers cleaned up so well my gardener didn’t have much to do that week.

Jose was very friendly and understanding when I called him about helping me get an orphaned squirrel out of the tree. He scaled the tree like it was nothing, and even had to cut some branches down to do it. He was very kind, and clearly has a heart. I will definitely keep JTS in mind for any actually tree services needed in the future.

Just a few days ago, JTS Tree Service came and trimmed the four liquid amber trees in my front yard. They did a wonderful job, got rid of so many old/​dead small branches, and trimmed the trees into a better look.
Also, their prices are very competitive. I had a few quotes on these trees from other vendors months ago, but JTS came out with the best price.
In addition, communication with Jose was easy and efficient. No misunderstanding, no excessive haggling, and so on. This saves me a lot of time. I like it.
They did my neighbor’s backyard trees too, by the way.

My neighbor’s Giant brazilian pepper tree grows right into my yard and was threatening to snap my phone and power lines. Had to give that tree a GI cut.
Quoted me a reasonable price to trim a huge tree. They even help to remove 2 small birch trees for free.

JTS did an excellent job removing two enormous pine and cedar trees from our front yard. We were very impressed and very pleased with the work that was done. The guys were professional, had a slew of giant specialized cranes and trucks and left the job site clean every day.
The particular work they did was impressive as well, as we had an enormous tree with giant branches hanging over our house. They managed to take everything down without any problems and accommodated some of our more particular requests. All in all they did everything we asked for and stuck to their original estimate. I would highly recommend JTS Tree Service to anyone looking for help
removing trees from their property.

I called this company and although they couldn’t or wouldn’t meet me during the week, I reluctantly scheduled an estimate for Saturday morning at 9am. At 8:50 I was called and the appointment was cancelled. Don’t use this company. They obviously don’t care about customer’s time. It is unacceptable to cancel at the last minute.
