Specialties
Melvyn’s Restaurant, located on the premises of the legendary Ingleside Inn, is elegantly upbeat with a fully restored 1895 carved oak and mahogany bar. With its numerous antiques, waiters in linen jackets and photographs from long ago, dining at Melvyn’s is truly a unique experience. Restaurant writers have praised the food as «beyond comparison» and you owe it to yourself to sample delicacies such as Veal Ingleside and more, including the finest wines from Melvyn’s two world-class wine cellars. Another of the most enjoyable aspects of Melvyn’s is simply people watching, to see just which famous celebrities may show up. And in the lounge, enjoy dancing and entertainment nightly!
History
Established in 1975.
The Ingleside Inn, Home of Melvyn’s Restaurant, was built in 1925 as a private residence. It was converted to an exclusive Inn in 1935. The property was purchased by Mel Haber in 1975. Mr. Haber completely renovated the Inn while retaining its old world charm. For the past 35 years we have been serving patrons from presidents to movie stars, to just plain folks. It has been featured as «One of the Ten Best» by Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. The Ingleside Inn is an official Palm Springs Historic Landmark. The hotel and Melvyn’s Restaurant & Lounge have hosted many Hollywood legends and persons of note such as, President Gerald Ford„ Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Larry King, John Travolta, Liza Minelli, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Goldie Hawn, and a host of other greats.
David Boreanaz of TV’s Bones, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was married here and had his reception at Melvyn’s.
Meet the Business Owner
Melvyn H.
Business Owner
After his automotive novelty business was firmly established, Mel Haber created several other companies, owning twenty different companies throughout the country while still in his twenties
In June 1974, Mel came to California to spend the summer, planning to return to New York in September. Vacationing in Palm Springs one weekend from Los Angeles, somebody drove him through the Inn. He immediately fell in love with the property and within fifteen minutes he decided to buy it.
At first, he wanted it for his home. «But then I was convinced it should be a classic hotel and restaurant… an elegant oasis.» The Inn has a fascinating history; the past guest list reads like a «Who’s Who» of the world. Even Howard Hughes stayed at the Inn several times. Haber spent some $ 500,000 restoring this historical hotel and grounds and added his own restaurant, Melvyn’s.
