The Pet Hotel at Barkingham Palace

I have a goldendoodle and am fussy about how he looks. Since this was my first visit here for grooming, I liked the fact that the groomer, Alex, came out personally to speak with me about my expectations. I told him of Boze’s fears (the blow dryer) and indicated I wanted a teddy bear cut. I asked Alex to avoid making him look like a poodle! Well, he succeeded! It is probably one of the best grooming he has had! I got slightly delayed picking him up and called asking if he was in a cage awaiting me? He was in a dog run with a couple smaller dogs. I liked that. I also asked if they muzzle and they indicated they only do as a last resort. I understand this if dogs are angry and fearful and wont cooperate. Boze had not been muzzled. I’m eagerly awaiting my next appointment in 3 weeks for just a bath. I suspect Boze won’t dread going back. Thank you Alex. Boze tipped Alex!

The Barkingham Palace in Palm Desert, is a second home for our dog Oso and us. The front desk ladies Ashley and Sabrina are amazing! they both deliver the best possible costumer service, always making sure they help with everything your dog can possibly need. The rest of the staff is friendly, responsible and organized. The groomer is very skillful and friendly as well. I have just wonderful things to say about this place, and absolutely recommend it. We will continue coming here every time we come back to the desert.

I only wish I could give no stars. I took my dog here for grooming. First he was stabbed in the nose with a scissor and due to the pain must have tried to jump and got a pinched nerve in his back. We took him to the vet the following day. Please do not go there for grooming. Take this as a warning!!!

Our dogs have stayed here for overnights and for just daytime play and they seem to love it. The expensive rooms are pricy but they’re equipped with a webcam so you can see your dogs eating breakfast or at nighttime if you call and ask them
to turn on the lights in their room. If you go with cheap/​GA/​general pop overnight they stay in a small kennel like area but they have a dog bed and dogs like small spaces.
Most importantly our dogs hadn’t been there in over 6 months and the staff immediately remembered our Doxie Mochi and Terrier Django Spots by name without having to pull up our account! Very cool!!! Would definitely recommend this location.

I have been taking my 2 french bulldogs here since they opened and I continue to be impressed with the love my girls receive at Barkingham! We are so incredibly fortunate to have a facility her in the desert like this, usually service like this is reserved to the big cities. Being that I currently have no human children of my own, Diva and Cookie are my kids and knowing that I can take them to Barkingham for daycare, grooming or boarding and never worry is priceless!
A little over a year ago my Cookie was diagnosed with cancer and the owner YES OWNER (Lori Weiner) on her own time called me to reach out and share her experience and success with her sweet Dino’s cancer treatment… who does that!!! Lori does, and that is typical of all the staff at Barkingham. Beth the manager is always a pleasure to work with and keeps a vigilant eye on all of the guests. Another time my girls were staying with them overnight Beth notice Diva was exhibiting some signs of anxiety so Beth called to see if it was okay with me for her to give Diva some extra toys to redirect her energy… OMG YES!!! Again who does this… Barkingham does!
When it comes to grooming my girls couldn’t be any more different. Cookie is pretty much a lump and is cool with whatever but Diva is the complete opposite! Often times other groomers would give her back to me wet and without her nails done because she does not make bath time or pawdicure time easy. The groomer at Barkingham takes her time with my high-​strung little frenchie and Diva ALWAYS comes to me dry, nails done and happy! When we used other groomers, even the mobile ones that come to you, she always came back to me with flushed gums, panting, fearful and with an excuse as to why her nails weren’t done.
The biggest testament I think any pet service place could ever receive is form the pets themselves via their behavior. I know that when Cookie or Diva get to the door of the vet they both put on the brakes and I usually end up having to carry them in, this is not at all the case when my girls get to the Barkingham front door. We get out of the car and suddenly my french bulldogs turn into world class sled dogs, pulling, snorting and diving for the entrance. Cookie eagerly paws at the glass door while Diva does her «happy piggy dance» waiting not so patiently for me to open the door. The pulling continues all the way to the front desk where they usually push their way through the swinging door on their own and get taken back to do whatever it is they are there for… palytime, grooming, boarding… whatever. I can’t leave my dogs at my parents house without Diva trying to jump back into the car with me so the fact that my girls never look back at me when they get to Barkingham warms my heart. My girls will never go anywhere else!

I have been taking my 3 Maltese here for a good number of years (I think since they opened). Found out about this The Pet Hotel at Barkingham Palace because my dogs’ groomer, Melissa, transferred here from her former grooming salon. I thought I’d let you guys know that Melissa has been grooming my dogs for at least 5 years now. I have always trusted her with my dogs and when I found out she became the grooming manager I was very, very proud of her! She more than deserved to be promoted because she treats my dogs like her own!
My dogs don’t really get along great with other dogs or other people. And I am guilty and I do admit that it is my own fault they are what they are. They think that they can come in as a pack and would always try to be alpha dogs but in reality is that they are not. When I leave them to play with other dogs while waiting to be groomed I would always leave with fear that they will annoy all the humans in that room with their incessant, annoying barking. But Melissa have always told me that they actually are very good and are well-​behaved when they are with other dogs! It is some kind of a miracle because I am so close to putting a shock collar on them just to make my life a little peaceful to say the least. She told me that they are like that when I am around because they are trying to protect me, which I believe.
I work nights and sleep during the day. The staff is VERY ACCOMMODATING to my schedule! They always make their best effort to work around my schedule. There have been numerous times when I couldn’t pick them up soon after they were groomed because I was either taking a nap or running errands BUT they never charged me anything extra for leaving my dogs even though I only took them there for grooming!
I adore everyone that works there, most especially Melissa and I will never take my dogs somewhere else! I have recommended this place to a lot of people who are fur parents like myself. To all my fellow Unilocalers and to anyone relying on Unilocal reviews, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

I thought this hotel was so cute especially the doggy menu and cute treats you can add on! I have a small Pomeranian who I was worried would feel overwhelmed or scared with so many dogs around but I was happy to find that large and small dogs are separated so there was no need to worry! Definitely would recommend to anyone!

I had my dog stay here last November. He is not good with grooming, so I asked that they don’t groom him — but when I went to pick him up, he was covered in pee! It looked as if he had laid in it all weekend (he is not dog-​friendly, so i imagine it was not caused by other dogs peeing on him.) Do they just normally groom dogs to cover this up?
My dog is potty trained and doesn’t have any accidents in the house… It made me feel bad that I had left him in a place that he seemed neglected and ignored. His paws, and chest and belly were COVERED (he is 150 lbs… so that was a lot of piss).
We thought the webcams were a good idea, but the dogs are in a big doggy daycare/​kennel all day and not in their rooms so you really never see them…
The only thing that would make me feel comfortable bringing my dog back here would be if they had webcams in the room that they are spending all their time in so that I could see that he’s not being neglected and ignored all day…
Anyway, reading all the other reviews, it sounded like an awesome place, but I think even awesome places can take on too many dogs and be overwhelmed. and therefore fall short sometimes. I felt like it definitely fell short of my expectations.
** I wrote an honest response about the business. The manager was very defensive in her response to my review and made up a lot of things in her response. My dog went in clean and odor-​free (minus some rank breath), but he came out covered in yellow pee. Yes, I declined the bath when I dropped him off. Had I known he would be covered in pee, I would have taken them up on the bath. After reading the response from the owner and her lies… I definitely don’t trust this business now.**

I have had my dogs there a few times. No complaints with how they are treated or taken care of.
However, a few days after coming home, she developed a cough. When I called to inform them, the manager was defensive and kurt. Everytime I started to talk, she cut me off.
In essance she kept interupting me and tried to explain that the kennel had taken upgrades to minimize the risks of dog diseases spreading.
I simply wanted to inform them that my dog was sick, and they should take some extra precautions with disinfecting the area she stayed in.

I took my two dogs to board there they had never been boarded before. They had a lovely suite with a camera in the room so I could watch them on my phone. lots of wagging tails. lots of lovely people taking care of them. Friendly knowledgeable caring staff. I went to pick them up and they wag their tails when they saw me but was not at all anxious to leave. they highly recommend the place. and want to go back soon.

I had my dog there for 5 hours, ask them to feed my dog at 4pm reason being he had meds in his food, and they put the food with meds in the freezer, so needless to say he did not get feed at 4 pm because they had to defrost it… also I said use the carrots for treats didn’t do that, when they did put down his food the put the carrots in his food. THEY DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!!! NEVER AGAIN will I use this boarding again.

I’ve been taking my two dogs to Barkingham Palace for the past year after trying out several other groomers in the area. The groomers here are stellar and everyone that I’ve interacted with has been so nice, friendly, positive and professional. My babies actually seem to be genuinely excited to visit and that has not been the case in the past. I should also mention that one of my doggies is a miniature schnauzer and I am very particular about her cut and they do it so well. They leave looking and smelling beautiful! I love this place and its easy see that the staff loves their furry clients!

Was contact by the grooming manager, which impressed me. Offered a discount on next visit to make things right. The fact that my review was important enough to research impresses me. But again, they did what I asked, so it just taught me to be more specific with what I’d like done.

I brought my cat Cricket here because I was unable to take care of her due to an accident. I felt so bad I couldn’t take care of her (she’s my baby).
It was nice and fairly close to the nursing home I was staying at.
When I would call to check up on her, they were very friendly and would actually let me talk to my cat.
My boyfriend went and visited her and facetimed me showing the area she was in. It looked like a very clean area, the cage she was in looked nice and spacious. My spoiled kitty didn’t like her neighbor kitties (she’s a brat sometimes); but she got along well with the staff.
The prices were reasonable for her stay, extra for her to get brushed and I think she got s bath? She was there for about 3 weeks, I was expecting the bill to be a bit scary but to my surprise it wasn’t that bad.
When I called to see if I could extend her stay they had no problem with it and were always very friendly and personable.
The name of the place is too cute.

We just picked up Pearson. He could not have been happier and we are so happy to have a wonderful place to drop him off during the day!

I like to wait a while before I review a business. My standard poodle puppy, Chanel, has been going to Barkingham for the past 2 weeks. Mostly it’s daycare but she did stay overnight once. I enjoyed being able to watch the webcam. I feel safe leaving my dog there. She enjoys playing with the other dogs and likes the staff members. I don’t know them by name but they all know my dog. I get a report on Chanel when I pick her up. Which dog she played with and so on… She’s known as the poodle that gives hugs. I don’t agree with Rory’s review but you can’t please everyone. I highly recommend Barkingham Palace and so glad they opened another location in Palm Springs where I live and work.

I am a current customer of Barkingham and have been brining my dogs here for 3 years now. In fact I believe I gave them a review a while back. Today I am responding to Rory G.
Rory, I am sorry you had what seems like a bad experience at Barkingham Palace, but I must say I am surprised! I have never seen or heard anything like what you described and certainly the staff at this place are just amazing… EVERYONE OF THEM LOVES DOGS! And it shows every time I go there. Ashley, Sabrina, Beth, Melissa, Becky… and I could go on. I am just a customer and go there monthly to groom, board & dog daycare and I ALWAYS feel good about leaving my 3 dogs there. These folks work hard to keep the place clean, safe and a happy place for dogs. Believe you me there are nightmare places around the desert to bring your dog and Barkingham Palace is NOT one of them! I know everyone’s name because they care and treat us like family over the years… please reconsider and give them another chance… what you say you experienced is not at all what they are about.

This is the only place we will board our Siberian Husky. We have places in LA and Newport Beach and this place is by far the best of anything we’ve dealt with. If you are picky (as we are), this is your go-​to place. They have camera’s in the room, TV’s, mini beds, and they constantly interact with your dog; Plus, they have indoor air-​conditioned play areas for your dog when it’s über hot outside. The staff is very sweet, even when I’m calling and spying on the cameras late at night! I cannot recommend this place more. It might be expensive, but you get what you pay for… and at this place, you see where your money is going.

Little Bridget is family now to Barkingham Palace, she has boyfriends, that come and go, and now she is socializing more and more every day, this little rescue that still needs a home is very well taken care of.
I call every evening and Wyatt and Natalie love sharing Bridgets daily activities with me.
I would like to do my part and hope others will join in the wish list for the facility
as we know our little furry friends that are boarding LOVE to eat and shred blankets, I encourage others to donate your extra blankets.
I love this facility and I know first hand that each and every pet is well taken care of and loved.

This is an update in my previous review…6 months if perfect service. Seriously every aspect of this business runs great… Sounds like a bogus review huh?.. ck out my other reviews if I don’t like something I have no problem saying it… My dogs are cut perfectly every time… even though that is enough for me… add that everyone u make contact with is friendly and accommodating as hell… Melissa was voted best groomer in the Coachella valley and there is a reason for it… they get my props…
