History

Established in 1993.

Matt and Dana Janes officially opened Second Amendment Sports in the back of Matt’s father’s oil field supply store in Bakersfield, CA. Through toil, analysis, and trial and error, the Janeses grew to have their own store and shooting range location in 1999. Matt built Second Amendment Sports into a one-​stop shop for hunters, field shooters, tactical marksmen, and hobbyists. He hired a gunsmith, a firearms instructor, and male and female sales clerks who were experienced in hunting, military, law enforcement, archery, and fishing. Soon after, SAS Bakersfield grew to become Kern County’s most well known gun store.

Now, 2013, we have SAS Palm Desert, and we’re off to a great start! As always, we carry guns, hunting gear, fishing equipment, and archery equipment. Additionally, our Palm Desert store is the first location in the company’s history to have a pistol and rifle range. Firearms instruction is also taught at this site. Business Owner

Matt uses his passion for outdoor sports to create a family owned and operated chain of stores in California and Arizona. Matt has been hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping all over the states and Africa. He’s done packing trips, ATV, guided hunts, and good old fashioned hiking and camping hunts. Muzzleloading, cannons, archery, military small arms… the man loves and studies all things that fire projectiles. He’s also done salt and fresh water fishing as companions to his hunting. Matt has had about every outdoor sportsmen’s experience, so he buys Second Amendment Sports merchandise based upon what he KNOWS to be practical and useful in the field.

Matt imparts the knowledge that came from his experiences to his staff and to his customers, to ensure that all levels of sportsmen are outfitted with proper gear, best practices guidelines, and enthusiasm.

Purchased an ar-​15 and 40 and was pretty pleased with the entire process, the reason for my low rating is the staff. I have dropped by multiple times during the course of the purchase (back order and layaway) some visits I was helped by younger male employees, one In particular was a younger Hispanic male whose name I can’t recall, anyhow who act really stuck up and have generally an unpleasant attitude. It’s always an awesome experience getting questions answered and being served by the older fellas, Wayne for example was the only reason I opted to purchase here. He had me and the Mrs laughing most of our visit and even suggested some classes for the lady. The dros girls are pleasant to deal with as well they very straight forward and make you feel like they want you to receive your firearms as soon and swiftly as possible. Overall great environment with a good vibe all around, the only issue in my opinion is better selection of staffing.

The ENTIRE STAFF are courteous and EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the products they sell. I’m a Platinum Member and Highly recommend this status for anyone who will be a regular user of the gun range, especially when they are bringing a partner to shoot. The 5% discount is always a welcome bonus. Email about serious government bills being proposed always helpful. Upcoming Sales event an added bonus.

One of the best stores I’ve been to, anywhere in the US! I found it shortly after moving the area, and have been a regular there since.
Great selection of firearms, shooting equipment, reloading equipment, and archery. This place has just about everything you could want in a sporting goods store. The staff is excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable.
Adding to that, is the indoor range. It’s really the finest I’ve ever seen at a store. It’s safe, well run, clean, and modernized.

Hello, more of a new shooter here. This gun store has been super knowledgeable, superb customer service, speedy service. Honestly down to earth workers, great knowledge. I’m newer to guns and shooting, I’ve never felt dumb talking to anyone here lol. I had felt them investing time and knowledge into me. Great fun selection, affordable prices. I’m not a local in town for work, I purchased 2 firearms here.

I’m from Arizona but spend time in Palm Springs. I was amazed at the selection of reloading supplies. The pricing on powders was amazing and they had powders in stock that I cannot find in AZ. Truly a hidden gem for a reloader/​shooter

This place is heaven to my wife and I… One stop shop for all your shooting needs. Customer service is excellent… Especially Wayne and Kent. They continue to go above and beyond for any of our needs. Actually all the staff is polite and helpful… I’ve bought from other stores and I’m gonna name Yellow Mart. Customer service was awful and actually felt like they didn’t want my business… I promised myself I would never buy there again. We’re also platinum members there and I feel like we’re treated like royalty. I highly recommend this place for all people… Novices and experienced shooters alike. No one comes close in customer service and all know what they’re talking about unlike other places. This place is like a second home to us and feel just as comfortable.

I recently came in and purchased a Springfield 40. I love the gun and it fits me perfectly.
However due to the experience that I had while filling out my paperwork and when I picked the gun up. I will not be purchasing anymore guns from your store. Since November I have purchased 6 guns including the one from your store. 5 from two different locations. That means that I have filled out the paperwork a total of 6 times. Several of those purchases was from a man that owns a shop and works for the Police Department. My fiancé was with me on 1⁄30 when I purchased my gun from you she was so rude that he had to leave the room because he was about ready to blow his top at her. I understand she has a job and her name was Becca. Her personality and attitude was poor, rude and totally disrespectful. When I went in to pick up the gun on 2⁄9 the gal that got me gun had the same personality. I felt you should know that your customer service is really really bad and because of this service or complete lack there of me and my fiancé will not be purchasing guns or signing up for range access at this location ever. Which is a shame because he and I are working on building a good size gun collection. I work in the customer service industry and if I treated customers the way I was treated I would not have kept my job for 12 years.

Crystal S. Is out of her mind. I have no idea WTF she is talking about. My fiancé never said a fucking word. He stood behind me and when the gal first said I have to use a ball point pen. Which no you don’t. I have used the same pen on the other 5 times I have filled out in 2 months. Then she insisted that I spell out the state which is also not required. Then insisted I spell out the date which is also not required. So as far as saying my fiancé was coaching me you are a flat out liar. Get your fucking facts straight.

I have quickly become a regular here. Great deals for people who like to shoot frequently. Just upgraded my range membership to «Platinum» and i am extremely happy. For roughly 30 bucks a month i can come in and shoot as much as i want with any guest. Eye and ear rentals are included as well as free rentals for any of their guns. You can bring your own targets and ammo for your personal guns but just have to purchase their ammo for their rentals, totally understandable. On the contrary of many of the reviews I have read, i have found the staff very knowledgeable, professional, and helpful. Just purchased a Springfield 1911 that I am dying to shoot. 60 day layaway option for those who want to purchase a weapon but don’t want to put all the money down at once. Great location, great business.

Don’t waste your time, or they will waste yours with their incredibly unprofessional staff. Flat out said to my face they didn’t care about my business as I was picking up a repair while being mocked for fixing my cheap bug out bag pistol. Third visit with this attitude from them. This is why I spent over a grand at a diff store.
UPDATE: the GM Ben remembered me as we greeted each other that day and found my number to call, apologize and make amends. That was appreciated and shows where he is at. I’ll consider giving them another try in the future. Thanks for your efforts Ben.

This is a hidden gem in the desert that needs to visited at least once by fellow firearms owners. It’s north of the Washington exit off the freeway. Located between two warehouses in the back. Parking is limited and tight if it’s a busy day.
They have a wide variety of firearms with ammunition and tools. The customer service is top notch and they will answer any questions you have to the best of their ability or even tell you if they’re unsure and get someone else who knows more about it. They have safes, archery supplies, targets, holsters, hunting gear, and most importantly an indoor range!
The range is pricey if you are not a member. They offer several memberships and have special offers for military and law enforcement. It only costs your guests $ 5 to use the range if you’re a member. They’re strict on being 18 y/​o age at a minimum with minors needing their legal guardians present. They hold your IDs when using the range and you pay once you’re done. They don’t take AMEX! Check their website for a list of firearms you can rent to shoot on the range. If you’re member then you can bring your firearm and ammunition at no extra charge. They have two separate sections, one for handguns and the other for rifles. The range has an easy to use system to set targets on specific lengths… its set to feet not meters. Very professional lane with a 24⁄7 safety to assist you if you’re new. They offer classes for beginners on archery and firearms.
You can buy paper targets and rent eyepro and ear plugs. Ammo can get really pricey so it’s a good idea to invest on your own firearm. $ 15 rentals for firearm rentals. Bring a jacket because they keep these lanes at a cold temperature at all times.
Overall 5 stars because it’s the best range out here and is always operating at a high level. Definitely recommend if you want to practice your shot group at specific distances without the hassle of setting your own targets or in the desert heat/​cold.

These people are awesome ! I cannot say enough good about them. They are very helpful and extremely knowledgeable ! Although I did have 1 minor problem: I had to order a part for my Mossberg shotgun for the strap, when it actually came with the shotgun in the box. So now I have an extra 1. Oh well… other than that I will continue to go there !

have been going here for over a year now and have never had a bad experience. The workers are all friendly and very knowledgable about the guns. They have an awesome gun selection to choose from and plenty of accessories to go along with them. They are a bit more expensive then some other gun places out here but for a good reason, the guns i purchased from here have all come with lifetime warranties through Second Amendment. I also purchased a pre owned gun from here that i did have an issue with, they had no problem spending time with me to resolve the issue i was having. Spending the extra buck is backed up by quality customer service!
Alongside all the pro’s above, there gun range is great! I have the yearly gold membership which is well worth it if you go once a month.

Just joined as a platinum member! Great indoor range and great selection! Guns are a little over priced compared to yellow mart and turners. Platinum membership is $ 300 a year and you can shoot for free, free rentals (have to buy their Ammo though), free eyes and ears, free to shoot your own guns & Ammo and you can bring guest! I will say everyone that helped me was very friendly and willing to answer all my questions. Great local gun shop! Can’t wait to go shooting again!

Kent is amazing! He is not only very professional and knowledgeable — but patient! Kent spent a lot of time showing myself and my daughter how to handle, load and safely shoot a Glock. I am a member here and use the range once a month or so. I like it that the guys are young as they want to talk more. Rather than some crusty old geez that hates «kids these days». They have a lot of accessories and very nice ARs, but pricey. Of course your gonna wait because these people are talking gun stuff and is a passioned hobby. Come when you have time, there is no drive thru. There is no bike parking Unilocal,this is a gun shop where men go.

Not a bad gun store for accessories, this is not a place to buy a gun though, most of the staff is young and cliquish and tend to ignore you unless you’re young as well. I recently went in with the intention of purchasing two Christenson Arms AR platforms. I tried for 20 minutes of milling around and waiting, standing at the counter while the youngsters working there played grab ass. So, will go down to Turners where I get treated well and spend lots of money.
