They promptly came within two days of calling to give me an estimate. When I needed help with packing, they sent two guys the day before the move who were very efficient in packing up half our house. Our move took 12 hours, six men, and they did a great job. They were organized, worked really hard all day, and tried really hard to place our belongings in the right place in our new home. They did a great job overall, we were very pleased. Nice guys — took a lot of the stress out of a crazy day!

Thank you for providing us with the very best service during our recent office relocation! All of us were amazed at the speed, efficiency and attention to detail exhibited by the team of Jeff, Dave, Tommy and John. They completed the relocation on time and without even the slightest damage to our office contents and facilities.
We were equally impressed with Bill Cramer and Mike Filtis (?) who handled the take down and set up of our office cubicles. They kept us engaged during every step of the process which resulted in an error free project that got us back to full operational mode much faster than we thought possible! Von Sydows and you should be very proud of the professionals involved with our relocation.

I rarely write reviews, but wanted to leave a review about this company. My last move was with Family Moving and Storage, they stole all my irreplaceable heirlooms some 200 years old, passed down for generations. They stole a family Bible and Rosary, my murdered husbands watches. My wedding ring. All my deceased mom and great grandmother’s wedding rings and engagement pieces. Rare coins, a 30,000.00 diamond wedding ring, my dad and grandfather’s war medals, dozens of gold jewelry pieces, my Louis Vitton bag, gold pins from my graduation. I could go on for pages and the winner is MY MURDERED HUSBAND’S WAR MEDALS. So you can only imagine how excited I was to have to make another move.
I found this company on Thumb Tack and they had a good review (of course Family Moving and Storage had great reviews and an A+ rating with the BBB).
The guys arrived on time. They were so respectful and had a great sense of humor.
They worked diligently and quickly. They took great care of my furniture. They wrapped and packed fragile items rapidly and carefully.
They seemed to be a little pricey, confirmed by a few realtors in the area, but at least I did not lose every precious thing I owned. (Of course Family Moving and Storage did not do one thing about the stolen items except block my emails and not come to the phone).
I would highly recommend this company. Joey and his crew were true professionals. I so appreciate their work. And loved that man-​purse! :)

This was a local move with no storage in-​between. The estimator came over to bid the job the day I called looking for an estimate. The bid was for a six man crew to load, transport and unload in eight hours. The cost was all time based, the longer it took the more costly it would be.
Dispatch scheduled the job per the estimator’s description.
On the day of the move, six guys showed up with two street trucks, on time. They loaded, transported and unloaded in just about 6 hours. The six man crew was a mix of employees and subcontractors. They were all courteous, professional and diligent in their work. they prepped the surfaces of the old house and new house before starting any work. They pointed out issues with items before loading them. They cautioned me about three stifel lamps with glass tops — very prone to breakage. They rebuilt everything they took apart and even fixed a few items that were broken before they showed up.
This experience was as stress free as possible.
I admit, we packed almost everything before they showed up. (Additional charge to hire them to pack.) So, we assumed the liability for breakage of the stuff in the boxes. We also had most of the loaded boxes in the front room by the front door and all the boxes were color coded for placement in the new house. In general, if you want a good move, help your movers be successful by helping get ready for the move.
Only you love your stuff the way you do.

Recommended by our real estate agent, which I am sure was a scam to get a kick back. The move out, into storage, went well. The move into our new home, not so good. The crew they sent was utterly incompetent and knew less about moving than I did. They damaged so many items and incorrectly assembled several others — several items were less than a few weeks old at the time of the move. We have hired movers three time in the last 6 years, and never have we experienced damage like this. I had to throw away half of my plates and serving pieces.
If you use, buy the best insurance you can get cause you will need it. Oh they also damaged our new floors and have done nothing to fix it despite a request.

Wow. Downsized my house and had to wait a couple months in between closings. I decided to put my furniture in professional storage and boxes in a public storage unit. After getting three quotes I decided on this company Von Sydow they were not the cheapest but seemed most professional.
Movers showed up on time gouged my hardwood floor (of outbound house) and knocked a panel off my front door. After getting a bit of attitude from them and the manager having to come over and inspect it they reluctantly fixed the problem.
Don’t worry, it gets much worse.
My stuff was in storage with them for two months.
On delivery day movers showed up promptly and friendly once again. However several pieces of furniture are RUINED. Not just scratched or dinged (there was plenty of that too) but seriously throw it in the garbage ruined.
One leather couch and cocktail table were completely soaked. The dark couch having salt looking stains like it had been getting wet for 2 months. The cocktail table was molding, falling apart and splitting. My other leather sectional was shrink wrapped in plastic which appears to have melted on one section significantly to the point where it may be beyond repair. There were also several punctures in the seat of another section. My dining room table has two small gouges in the top that are parallel as if it was leaning or bumping on something.
When the mover noticed the severely damaged items he said «we have a problem» he called his boss who said tell her to file a claim.
Anyway after paying this company almost $ 4000 to care for my belongings you can see they don’t really care at all.
My advice is stay away. If they take care of my claim to my satisfaction I may update this review however based on experience so far I don’t have a lot of faith that will be the case.
And by the way if you want to see examples of their professionalism and customer service you need look no further than to read Brad Von Sydows response to every negative comment posted. Wow. I guess I should have read all these first.

I have received my settlement check from Von Sydow’s. $ 111.00.
After being harassed to take my review down by the company (which I said I would amend if claim was handled to my satisfaction) Here is my amendment.
Some people are a pain in the ass. You move, stuff happens, stuff gets scratched. Some people can’t handle that.
THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED. This is negligence on the part of this business pure and simple. Someone anonymously confirmed that my stuff was sitting in a truck in their parking lot for two months basically getting rained on, moldy and ruined. Even though they told me that it was in «CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE». it wasn’t
They cut me a check for ruining my furniture for $ 111.00.
Never ONCE did they apologize. Never once, did they try to make it right. They do not know the meaning of service.
Please read these reviews, take them seriously and stay away from this company.

Here is my experience with Von Sydow Moving and Storage. They dropped my leather sofa going down my deck stairs, which ripped the leather, they dropped my drawer out of my SOLID OAK night stand which cracked off a one inch by eighteen inch strip of solid oak off of the second drawer, they scrapped up the leather on my love seat, and gouged the top of my SOLID OAK dresser when they were installing the mirror. I moved into a 2 bedroom condo, so they did not move a lot of furniture. Their response was… accidents happen. Judy from the claims department (by the way is the rudest person I have ever spoken to in my life and should not be in customer service) said if you were helping a friend move and you dropped something, it is in accident, you wouldn’t pay for it. OMG, I hired them since that is their profession to move furniture, so things wouldn’t get damaged. I think my friends would have done a better job. Their movers were not careful at all. Also the head mover assured me they had people that would fix what they damaged. Judy said they don’t and she doesn’t know why they said that.
After they said they wouldn’t repair what was damaged directly by their employees, I called up my credit card company to stop the payment Then they said they wouldn’t do anything until I paid them and then they would just look into it.
I will let you decide if you want to use them as your mover.

I just spoke with a very rude representative of this company.
I requested a quote for an upcoming move for a two bedroom apartment, both buildings are 3^rd floor/​stairs, about 7 minutes away from each other. The representative said it would take four men, and four hours, for a total of $ 800.
I politely responded that I didn’t think it would require four men, or a four hour time block, since I hardly have any furniture. She got extremely nasty for seemingly no reason, and said «Then I guess you don’t need to work with our company! GOOD LUCK» and hung up the phone.
I would simply never do business with a company that employed people like that — I wouldn’t trust them with my valuables. So I’m posting this to help out any Unilocalers who might benefit from that information.

The people at Von Sydow are exceptional especially Jim Schwantz. These are the guys to call for your next move.

I haven’t used this company to move and hopefully never have to use them. I’m writing this review to warn people that this company has the worse customer service I’ve ever experienced.
One of their trucks was parked in a «No Parking – Fire Lane» area (they even parked right next to the the sign declaring this) and also blocked some driveways because of the narrow street. I asked the driver if he planned to move the truck and he told me no. I left to go shopping, came back and they were still in the fire lane so I called the number on the truck and was told that I should call the cops because they still did not plan to move. Called the cops and they were finally forced to move.
I can’t believe how cocky the movers were and thought management would understand, but obviously the bosses are just as cocky.
Please do not use this company to move since they don’t seem to care much about customer service and I personally would not trust them with any of my personal things. Too many other movers out there!

Von Sydow’s did a great job with your recent local move. We had two five men crews (separate move out and move in with storage in between) and they were extremely courteous and professional. They weren’t the fastest movers ever, but fast enough and true to their estimate. They moved everything with care and especially did a great job putting our furniture back together. And they moved things around multiple times as I tried to figure out the best placement. I only mark them down one star because getting the estimate was a nightmare. No problem scheduling, the guy came to our house and was very thorough, but then he dropped off the face of the earth! After more than two weeks with no estimate and many, many phone calls I called the owner and had the estimate the next day. Overall, in spite of that minor glitch, a great experience!

This review is not based on the actual moving service but the representative who was supposed to come to our current dwelling to provide us with an estimate. This appointment was made two weeks prior so you would think it would be on this person’s calendar.
As it turns out, the individual was supposed to be at our premises at 10 AM but was running late due to estimating what he described as a ««mansion». This wouldn’t have been so bad except he didn’t bother to call us to let us know what was transpiring on his end. To make matters worse, he attempted to give us a phone estimate for the move which I refused. How do I know they wouldn’t low ball me?
He then said he couldn’t come out today but would email me an estimate which I haven’t received as of yet. Now, I don’t care how good your other reviews are or what the BBB says. As far as I am concerned, Von Sydow dropped the ball big time and will not be recommended by us. Also, this person couldn’t even get my name right.

My Friends and i were moving into an apartment for college and the movers were cool and friendly. Before hiring them the customer service over the phone was good too. they made sure everything was categorized into fragile or not. Now thats good service. most movers dont care and they got done quickly no time wasters haha;
i totally recommend these guys. Enjoy!

I was frantically trying to find a moving company that would fit my weird schedule and limited budget, especially in Chicago. They were polite and helpful on the phone even though I asked a lot of questions. The quote was not the cheapest, but on the lower end regardless. After reading other reviews, I took the chance with them. When the day of the moving came, the guys were quick and right on time. They listened to where I wanted my things and took extra care of the important stuff. Will definitely use them again in the future.

It is no secret that moving can be really stressful. I was living in the suburbs and wanted to get back to the city, I am a student and I don’t have tons of money to spare, so I decided to do my research and quote many moving companies, Von Sydow’s was the most affordable, and when I called them to book my moving they were very nice to me, they were very flexible and comprehensive of my needs and budget limitations. I cannot stress enough how much I loved their service attitude, availability, understanding, and treatment of the client. It is very hard to find companies that make you feel like the most important thing in the world, that guide you patiently and carefully through the, for some, frightening process that means moving.
They asked me a good deal of questions regarding dimensions, they asked me how many delicate or fragile stuff I had, how was my house and new building’s situation for the moving, after I answered I received a thorough lesson about movings. I love to learn new things, I love to get my money’s worth, and with Von Sydow’s I certainly did and I got more than expected. They gave me tips for the future, ideas for my apartment, and, in general, just one of the best costumer service experiences of my life, I am not kidding.

I tend to do things last minute so I was cutting it close when I booked my move only 2 weeks before my lease was up. They were able to fit me in, no problem. My next concern was having them show up at the scheduled time because my building had a very strict moving out policy, but the movers did a great job showing up on time and moving everything quickly and safely. The estimate they gave me for my studio apt. was accurate. Moving can be stressful but these guys made it a breeze.

This was the worst possible moving experience. After being told «f you» by the owner of the company when we were trying to confirm an exact delivery date for our out of state move, he told us he was done working with us. As they already had our items in storage, we were forced to depend on them. We had 2 itemized pages of damages on a delivery that was 5 days later than requested at initial appointment. We incurred over $ 1000 in unexpected additional expenses due to this delay. All of our possessions were left in their parking lot the day the driver arrived at Von Sydow to load our move. An antique piece arrived in 4 pieces. Be careful!

I hired them in early February to move me just across the border. Their prices were the best of many quotes I got. However, the actual men who handled my move were very rough with my stuff, and left two big dents in the laminate floor, and many squished boxes. They used straps to haul boxes, and I think overloaded themselves in an effort to take less trips. I think this was unnecessary, since the truck was just outside my door, not down stairs and corridors.
I would probably hire them again, but I would not want these two guys.
