Zero stars for customer service, response and follow-​up. One star for price — high!
We’ve spent thousands at this store, so it’s not like they don’t know us. This year, we paid another $ 200 for a site visit that recommended $ 6,000 of new plants.
While pricey, we bit the bullet and wanted to proceed. However, the site plan was too inaccurate to use in a contract. So, we asked them to return, correct the plan and finalize the contract.
Their response — a re-​visit would cost $ 95 for every 15 minutes of consulting and travel time. They wanted hundreds more to clarify their poor presentation.
This is not a firm we recommend. In fact, we suggest looking elsewhere. Certainly don’t use them for design planning unless you have unlimited funds to correct their poor presentation.

We’ve been coming her for years for all of our plantings. Trees and flowers. They have chemical for treating the plants and a lot of different ornaments for the year. Best of all they have a knowledgeable staff to help you pick exactly what you need, or to help you figure out the problems your having with your plants.

It took 6 phone calls and two site visits to finally schedule installation of landscaping they designed. Day 1, they were 5 hours late and had no overtime left so would come back the next day. They were 3 hours late with no phone call the second day. The overseer couldn’t communicate with the worker — different languages. The wrong plants were brought. The design did not have anything that fit in the corners but «I could buy more and they could finish next week» After they left I continued cleaning up [worker handprint on the siding, eg] Never use these people — have beautiful plants but the communication, follow through, warranty and attitude are TERRIBLE. I went to Goebberts to buy the edging and corner plants I needed and put them in myself.

I buy all my plants here. They have a large selection. The staff is very nice and helpful if you know nothing about planting. I bought a tree from them last year May 2015 and this past Nov 2015 IL had an early snow storm that broke my small tree in half with the weight of the snow and by spring of 2016 was pretty much dead. I tried fertilizer and nothing. I went back to Knupper to see if they had any other advice and they replaced my tree free of charge. Trees are pretty expensive so I was very, very happy they helped me out like this because after all it is not their fault the weather was bad. Thank you Knupper.

I shopped with my fiancé tonight, April 16^th, at this nursery, apparently 10 minutes after closing time. (No warnings given that they were closing & I did not know nor see hours posted.) As I approached the register with my fiancé about to pay, an ugly old fake blonde approached us and said «We are closed.» She shook her head and walked away.) What happened to common courtesy? We were very kind and courteous customers. We left without buying anything. (I would have been fine with: «We are closing» or «we have already closed the register, we didn’t know you were still here.» What kind of a world are we living in? Kindness, courtesy, do these not exist anymore? DON’T waste your money on this establishment that treats good hearted paying customers with disdain.

I have to give two reviews.
5 stars — Their staff. Very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to landscaping newbies like my husband and I.
3 stars– Their prices and their products. We received a gift card to here for some bushes for our backyard. We picked out 3 Weigela bushes that died within a month. (Not to mention the dent I have on my car from their carts not being corralled outside) Thankfully we bought the warranty. So we made the trek back up to Palatine (from Bartlett) and bought 4 rose bushes and 2 hydrangeas. We get home and plant them in our beds and it looks like they’re doing fine and then the rose bushes start to turn yellow. We had a plant expert come by (aka my mother-​in-​law) and it seems the roses we bought have a fungus. So we had to run to HD and buy some fungicide and prune back most of the rose bush. Ugh.
Hopefully these plants survive or there goes $ 200+

Diverse selection of plants that are well maintained. In addition to herbs, flowers, and some shrubs, they also have more exotic plants such as pitcher plants. They also have decorative items, soil, and various sprays for any plant ailments.

3 stars due to the EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES

If you want a great selection of wonderful plants and gifts this is the place. With an ever helpful staff it’s my go to place for my garden plants.

Everyone who works here is very friendly and helpful. Not many people are experts at gardening and really appreciate when workers assist them or give recommendations. The selection is great and everything is labeled so you know what you are buying and how to take care of your plants/​flowers. I was very impressed with the service I received and will continue to shop here.

This nursery has it all, and friendly service on top of it.
They have the widest variety of plants in the area hands down.
I do agree with other posts that they are a bit pricey, however when I compared the plants and flowers to other «nurseries» Knupper’s were bigger and healthier.
The staff is also very knowledgeable in the area, and that helps.
That’s something I will pay a little extra for.

Very nice selection but it’s hard to justify their prices when down the road is another, cheaper alternative. They also weren’t running any sort of sale considering the time of year. Every nursery further west is running at least 50% off on in stock items right now.

i love this place cause they have a big variety of plants, i also love that they offer some free seminars for all the green thumbs out there.
The employees are all so friendly and helpful.
I went here last weekend for Hydragena Hoopla! i learned A LOT about hydragenas and how to care for them properly.
Definitely come here for your plant needs!

Wow, we had 2 experiences with Knupper and both were underwhelming… with the latest experience downright horrible.
First let’s start by saying that the prices are borderline astronomical! We knew what we were getting into and wanted quality, so we overlooked that point believing you get what you pay for. In this case… WRONG!
We started with the design service for our lawn. Since we were starting with a new lawn, we needed a lot of help. The design they came up with was very nice and they were very helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable. I asked them to keep the project under $ 7,000 and they said «no problem». A few weeks later after calling and calling… I get a nice drawing and a project price of $ 15,000. What? I asked for $ 7k and get $ 15k? Am I missing something? Anyway, we found the exact same plants at Home Depot for less than half the price, so I helped myself out.
The BIG problem with these arrogant jerks came when I bought a few of the specialty plants there. I bought the plants and brought them home. A few days later I noticed that a couple of the bushes didn’t look very good. I kept an eye on them and exactly 2 weeks after I bought them, I brought the nearly dead plants back. I tried to be nice, but when they told me that they only had a 2 day warranty on their plants and they would not exchange the plants I went ballistic! A 2 DAY WARRANTY? WTF? EVERY PLACE WITHIN 100 MILES HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY! I PAID TRIPLE FOR THESE PLANTS AND GOT A 2 DAY WARRANTY???
Needless to say, I steer my frenemies to Knupper to get corn-​holed, but I would never send real friends or family to these jerks.

Very nice nursery — we have purchased flowers as well as shrubs here. Last summer we showed up looking for 9 (yes 9!) new shrubs for our backyard. One of the associates took the time to consult with us while walking us around and showing us various options for what our needs/​likes were and kept in mind our budget. They are a little pricey (that’s why they get 4 stars instead of 5).
We have also purchased our fresh Christmas tree here for the past three years — they are VERY reasonable with prices and the trees were of very high quality.

I called and inquired about the purchase of 20 Arborvitae trees and asked if they give a discount for a large purchse like this and they said «NO, why would we do that. «I just laughed and said have a nice day. Move on to someone else

In my quest for my arch and some other things for the garden, I stopped at this shop along «nursery row» on Rand Road. Knupper, pronounced Kn-​oo-​per (no silent k), is a gigantic establishment that runs about a full block. It probably rivals Atrium in its size, but didn’t seem to have as much ornamental stuff for the garden, or outdoor furniture.
It’s impossible to miss from the road, with its walls adorned with large murals of birds and animals. Even an electrical box outside has a chipmunk painted on it!
While I did not find an arch like I wanted, I did get a sturdy wood trellis for a clematis that has been spreading all the way up to the rooftop. It was not something I had not been planning to buy, but I didn’t see one as solid and tall as the one at Knupper.
I also got some petunias to put in baskets and planters. The mini petunias in orange, yellow and shades of pink and purple simply can’t be found at the big box stores. Not only that, but the plants were in really good shape, rather than being merely «survivors» as it seems to happen at Home Depot stores.
And I have to commend Knupper’s for having a huge number of wagons and carts available to transport stuff. At too many garden centers I’ve visited, seems the carts and wagons are hidden away somewhere at the other end of the store, requiring a long walk. Here, they seem to be at every entrance, and even between sections of the store.
Knupper is a bit pricier than Atrium, so I’d recommend checking one of the other stores along Rand before committing to something big like an arch, trellis or giant planter from here, but I can’t say anything bad about them.
While I liked Atrium the best, Knupper holds its own and I still would go back there for certain garden items in the future.
