Carl Hayden Visitor Center at Glen Canyon Dam

Great view of the dam and if you walk around a bit more you can see a lot of other gorgeous views of the Colorado and surrounding… stuff.

The Glen Canyon dam is a marvel of engineering. Definitely worth a visit and taking the tour. If your in the area I recommend stopping by.

The view of the dam and bridge is great. My usual national park Magnet is $ 3. It’s $ 4 here. Big deal to me. You can get a dam tour or boat ride reservations here.

Beautiful area to stop on the way in to or out of Arizona into Utah! Stopped here in the early am hours to catch the sunrise on the way to Zion National Park, incredible view of the sunrise

Honestly, don’t spend more than 15 minutes here. Kind of boring. But, its free to visit. Paid tour available.

The Glen Canyon Dam overlooks the Colarado River. Impressive view from the top of the dam. I didn’t go for the tour as I have visited Hoover Dam before but if it’s your first dam that you’ve visited, go for the tour. You can drop by if you happen to pass by the area, to your next destination.

I wished we had time for the dam tour. As it was, we caught the audio visual short movie on the building of the dam.
You can walk the rim of the dam and take a peek down. Glen Canyon Dam is a smaller version of Hoover Dam. Glen Canyon Dam resulted in the man made Lake Powell.
There’s also some dinosaur tracks to the right of the visitor center. Way cool!

I hadn’t been inside a dam since I was a child and, like most things other than Disneyland, it seemed boring at the time. There still isn’t much to see at a dam except astonish at the resources it took to build something so enormous.
Unlike Hoover Dam, the visitor center is free and the $ 5 tour is also much cheaper than Hoover. The tour took 45 minutes and covered the essentials like walking around the top, bottom, and inside the dam. The huge generators were also visited. If you arrive early or get bumped to the next tour time, it’s not a problem because that time is easily spent reading the educational exhibits in the visitor center. Then just wait until they «page» you when the tour is ready to leave — appropriate for Page, Arizona.
The tour omitted a little known fact. The prime spot for the dam was further north in Utah, but met opposition from Mormon protestors that disliked the off-​color language. The federal government moved the final location down river to Arizona because they were unwilling to change the name to Glen Canyon Darn. Just kidding.

What a beautiful visitor center! It was very clean and has an entire back glass wall of floor to ceiling windows, providing an amazing view. The building is perfectly designed for looking down on the dam and viewing the winding river below.
If you have the time, take a walk across the Glen Canyon Bridge. It’s pretty as far as bridges go, and the views are very different from the views inside the visitors center.
This is a great educational place to stop and stretch your legs. And if you have kids with you, even better! The facility is open daily, with summer hours (mid-​May-​mid-​September) 8 am to 6 pm, expect major American holidays. So, if your passing thru Page, AZ you should take the time to check it out and learn something.

VIEWS, VIEWS, VIEWS!!! Just can’t get enough. Highly recommend this stop along your adventure. Walk on the bridge to see a view of Glen Canyon Dam. Turn around cross the street, but take extra caution cars come in fast sometimes, and see another amazing view of the Colorado River. Just amazing!

Cool Visitors Center. If you want to take a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam, then you buy your tickets here. We did not have time to spare so we just looked around the center. There is information and exhibits explaining the history of the Dam and how it works.
From the visitors center, you can walk onto the Glen Canyon bridge. Some nice pics can be taken of the Dam from the bridge. Just be careful not to drop your camera or phone.
Overall, the facilities here are quite clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. Worth stopping by, if you are in the Page, Arizona area.

The tour was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed every part of it. They take you up on the dam wall and down to the turbines. You could watch a short movie for free how the dam was made after the tour or leave

Stopped by for a few hours. The dam is HUGE! The viewing area has nice facilities. If you paid you can also take a tour of the dam. Rock formations leading up to the dam were colorful. The bridge provides a nice view. If you’re in Page, worth checking out.

Bo-​ring!
The tour guide was a fresh faced girl w/​«an American head» (she said a french person said this about her) and she was perfect. She was like a Wikipedia and she knew her facts inside out.
That’s the thing about this dam, it’s all hard facts, technical details w/​no poetry or personal stories. I would actually love if they indulge us w/​scandalous details if any (how ppl died, any curses, blah blah blah). Make shit up like those LA scenic tours, I would.
Boring scenery too. Yawn. Pass this and go to Wahweap to check out the lone rock: absolute solitude on white sand beach.

Great place to check out. On the spur of the moment we decided to do the Glen Canyon guided dam tour since it was only $ 5 per person and we have not been to a dam tour
The tour guide was very informative. Albeit hot, we did not feel it as much cause part of the tour was conducted indoors where we got to see the power plant etc. The tour took around 45 minutes and there was also an option to watch a video about the dam at the end of the tour.
Since this is a federal facility, we had to go through security check and no big bags were allowed into the tours.

I didn’t take the dam tour since I did Hoover dam. But the visitor center is worth the stop for the view.

I have never taken the «tour», but just stopping and looking at it is worth the 20 minutes that it takes. Breathtaking views with things to read in the visitor center.
Similar to Horseshoe Bend down the road, this place is also worth stopping and having a look. Bring a camera!

The Visitor Center is beautiful, clean, and accommodating.
It’s a recommended stop for beautiful views of the Dam.
the kids loved seeing the Dinosaur foot prints outside, and the Dinosaur skeletons inside. the information posted was very interesting as well.
We took some pictures of the Dam, and got a few good tips for hikes and information about the surroundings from the nice lady inside.
We didn’t take the tour inside the dam only because we did it before in other places — it is recommended if you never did it before.

Damn dam, damn dam. The theme of the day was damn dam jokes. How many could be made? Countless. How many did we make? Countless. HA HA HA… yes, my family is incredibly immature… and I love it!
As far as dams go, this one is terrific. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and we had a great time. I’ll admit I didn’t pay attention the whole time as I was joking and messing around, but this is a definite must see.
We took the dam elevator down to the bottom of the dam and were able to see it from a bottom up angle, were able to see the dam generators as well as the view from atop the dam. Very impressive I have to admit. Recommend to all.
We even stayed after the tour to watch a free movie in their mini cinema… I personally used that time to take a quick nap. LOL.
