Oxnard Department Of Motor Vehicles – DMV

Not my favorite place to go to in general but my experience the last couple of times have been better. I can’t stress it enough, get an Appointment, book it online! Made my life much easier. Don’t expect friendly service. They’re short tempered, sometimes condescending, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that it’s because they are dealing with hundreds of people and answering the same questions everyday. Make an appt, be quick, and try to be in and out. If you don’t, this place long and unbearable.

All i can say is «Wow». You would think it being a government agency they’d have the decency to provide at least an ounce of customer service. Check in lady today did not even let me finish my sentence before throwing a ticket at me. Person at Window 1 was rude as can be throwing papers at me. I live right across from this dump and i will happily make my way to another DMV that does not hire employees with horrible work ethics & attitudes.

Every Time I go it’s the same thing!, never a pleasant visit. Poor customer service, the women here seem like they just rolled out of bed and went to work, they have the worst attitude ever, I dunno what it is…, if they hate their job so much go work somewhere else!,

Crappie service had to wait an hour for my handicap placard. .then cut in front of by Hispanic lady while Hispanic employee told me to wait in line! WTF! Really??

First off don’t bother to go to Oxnard DMV location… Thousand Oaks location is so much better. Oxnard DMV is sadly depressing to go into, everything is outdated, people unhappy, and not treating customers with kindness and respect. Really wish I could write a different review but I was so taken back by the quality of the facility and customer service that I had to say something… I encourage people to make a trip to Thousand Oaks DMV, where you will find a totally different attitude. My hope is that the Oxnard DMV will wake up and see they need a complete change… That when workers are happy, customers are happy.

This DMV fricking sucks!!! Most if not all the employees that work here are arrogant and stuck up; they think they have a better pot to piss in for whatever their reason is. Long wait time when you first get there, parking lot’s usually full. When inside, it’s crowded to put it kindly, lots of kids crying and running around. And again, the staff… I loathe the creatures that are called the staff here. If you have anything to get squared away DMV wise in Ventura County, avoid the Oxnard branch like the plague!

Employees very inconsistent with the requirement, very rude one employee ok my requirement and another employee won’t take the military I.D. I have to go home to get my passport came back another employee claimed military iI. D is fine .I don’t don’t if they know there job or they just decided to pick on me.

The wait times and long and the people aren’t helpful

TERRIBLE Service. The Employees are so full of themselves. I walked in and get completly lost. No orginization what so ever. I walk up to an employee who wasn’t busy to ask a simple Yes or No question and right away another employee who is excessively fat with her sagging arm fat pointing at the line. Yelling that i must go wait in line. I added the description of the lady so for those who go and see her will know how rude she is.
ZERO STARS.

This facility needs improvement for the growing city of Oxnard and the volume of people that require services. I’ve never encountered such a ridiculous long waiting line simply to make a payment.
Other DMV locations offer kiosks, onsite computer to make payment online or allow you to redeem payment with the check-​in clerk so you don’t have to wait.
Why haven’t any of these methods been implemented at this location? There was a gentleman shouting to «hurry up»! I don’t know how long he was waiting, but his outbursts and facial expression seemed to be the voice and feelings for all others that were during down in the waiting room. Finally, her to the check-​in receptionist, they couldn’t take my payment bcuz I had to wait my turn, which was 1hour minimum wait time. Just to hand over the money for tags? I had the money out too– sorry, you have to wait your turn, here’s your ticket number. Wait time 1 hour? I walked out, no thanks, not waiting.
Yes, I know-​make an appointment, it’s quicker, it’s better. But some people can’t since their work-​family schedules are not set. Some don’t know if they’ll have the day off work to take care of their DMV issues, others cannot take time off so they run in here trying to get by real quick when they have an opportunity, others simply don’t have access to a computer or don’t know how to make online payments. I totally forgot about my tags and was in the area, so decided to swing by… bad idea.
Last time this happened to me, I turned around, got in my car, drive to Santa Paula, walked in, no waiting, took care of bushes and walked out within 30 min compared to 2hr wait time in Oxnard. I frequent the Thousands Oaks DMV too when I’m in the area. The check-​in clerk processed my payment, so I didn’t have to take a number of wait additional time.
Bottom line, lots of room for improvement here. Why haven’t any of them been implemented?

If the option for a (-)star was available i would click on it for this location :/​
— Long wait in the «Start Here» window
— Then they don’t want to know how to help, just «What Are You Here For Attitude», then here is your ticket
— Minimum 1hr later, get to a window Only to find that you could have solved it at the welcome window
— Want a renewal, no problem; Take this number, wait an hour, come to the window, pay all fees, and oh buy the way you need to go smog the vehicle. Come back tomorrow wait in the «Start Here», take a number, wait min 1hr…
— It would make more «sense», if the welcome lady looked at your paper (s), told you what you’re missing, gave you a number. Now one can take care of all things before making it to the window, pay with a smile and go about their lives.
— Whilst I appreciate the work they do, I have to say they have grown numb to «Comon Sense», it’s almost like they became «zombies» :(

In conclusion, these employees are very knowledgeable, helpful, and do most of there duties wearing a nice smile;
Getting to that point is a different matter all together!

Never waited in a DMV for such long time!
Dont ever go to this location cuz people’s time does not mean anything to these people! Waiting 4 hours for renewing DL is beyond insane.

I came here for my driving test. I could tell the staff had a long day but they were still pretty helpful and nice. I came here on a Saturday and its appt only so that’s pretty nice. My driving test was postponed by an hour bc the examiner was taking a lunch during my scheduled time but it’s ok cuz I still passed! The examiner made me feel very comfortable and it took maybe 10 minutes total.

I don’t understand the bad rap for this place. I went yesterday to renew my drivers license and it was actually a pleasant experience and everyone working there was friendly and polite!
The only issue I saw was there were people getting in the line for «Appointments Only» who did not have appointments. As I am writing this perhaps they thought they needed to make one before getting in the other line?
OH one other issue — I had trouble hearing the numbers being called due to all of the ambient noise.
However, I have been to the DMV in Los Angeles, North Hollywood and Santa Monica and this one rocks compared to those!
Make an appointment and go with a good attitude!

OK — so its almost impossible to even get an appointment at the DMV right now because there are so many people fighting for so few appointments. We are from Redondo Beach — and got an appointment here. It took us 2.5 hours to drive there — but at least we got an appointment.
From the beginning — the staff was kind and patient with us. My daughter was going to get her driving test — and was really nervous. The guy behind the counter was so calm and joking with her as we signed in with our paperwork. I had forgot our insurance and had it on my phone instead and was worried they wouldn’t accept that — but they said no problem. He told my daughter to go get the car and drive into the line — and that «he’d see her back inside once she passed.»
We waited patiently for our daughter to come back from her driving test — it took about 20 minutes. When she returned — her testing instructor talked with her in the car for about 20 minutes. With all the gesturing and taking glasses on and off — we really feared for the worst. When our daughter got out — we were so happy to hear that she passed. The talk was about all the things she did right — and then in-​depth analysis of what she did wrong and how to correct it.
We thanked the instructor as we passed –and she told us that our daughter did well — but can use more time on the road to get more confidence and to keep her driving. I was amazed at how much time and effort she put into her job when it would be so much simpler to just say pass or fail and move on to the next kid. She spent as much time teaching as my daughter did driving.
My daughter said how the instructor took time with her to try to get her relaxed and made a bit of small talk to keep her from thinking too much or getting to anxious.
Once we went back in — the lady at window 13 was so complimentary about my daughter getting her license — and answered all her questions patiently and kindly.
We had a great experience here — and are so thankful for these people. I’ve been in many DMV’s in my life –and I’ve never been treated so kindly. They made a very tense day for my daughter one to remember.
It was totally worth the 2.5 hour drive. Each way.

Apparently, I should have made an appointment after reading other’s reviews…
To pick up a dmv book…
I dropped by to pick one up for my sister but there were none in sight. I’ve always remembered they use to have a stack where you could pick one up. I asked one lady where their stack was, and she basically told me I need to get in line that had +10 people waiting, just to get the book. Lesson learned.

First and foremost, please make an appointment. You get your own line to wait in and you’re automatically priority versus those who show up without an appt.
There’s no wifi or anything entertaining to do but just sit, wait and watch for your call number. Unless you want to stay busy, you can just listen to music on your phone, bring your laptop or read an interesting book. Up to you how to pass the time.
Ugh, at the end of it all, I realized the acronym for DMV is DAMN MI VIDA for being here for 2 hours just to renew my driver’s license and get a new snap shot of myself on the card. No more 18 year old self but hope it came out nice lol

Keeping it simple
A Very few People are capable of doing a great job,
Others not so much
3 star fair enough for an unbalance service
Giving props for the staff that take their job seriously and. The ones that don’t just please get up of that chair and let someone else with the capacity to occupy that spot.
No job is simple, all jobs have stressing moments and you have to deal with it or find something else to do.
Screw this, Would of keep that 3star but instead of going up its not happening.

There are things that you can take care of ahead of time (registration/​licences etc) with making an appointment online, so please do so. You will save yourself a lot of pain and time. But my case was quite different. Could not wait a month for the next opening, so had to suffer without making an appointment. Not due to the lack of planning. Something I could not avoid. When I made an appointment, in and out in under a half hour.
I have no problem with kids, but the folks here let them run around like it’s a playground, adding to the pain and suffering. Bathroom was thrashed, please clean it … Finally after 2 ½ hours of waiting, still did not get what I needed to get accomplished. Service was pretty straight forward, but I am sure the employees put up with a lot and their tolerance for people is pretty short.

Alright, I have to write a review of this DMV not because I dislike it, because how can you actually dislike a service that is bombarded with too many citizens. Oxnard is way too big and has way too many people for one DMV. They seriously need to open up another one at least. I don’t understand why there isn’t more in Oxnard.
I’m not going to give 5 stars or even 3 because no one likes going to the DMV in the first place, but at least if you go, you want to be reasonably accommodated if anything and for that I think they do a pretty good job.
MOST people who go there, do not go there with appointments. Therefore there is always a long wait (minimum 45 minutes, max 1 ½ hours). I’ve been in doctors offices waiting for longer than that, so it’s not overly ridiculous, considering all the people that DMV serves.
If you make an appointment you are guaranteed to be seen sooner. After waiting in the check in line to get a number you take a seat. Sometimes this line is very long, which sometimes sucks but it’s what it is.
Anyhow… to the point. If you make an appointment, and you put a smile on your face and you talk to the DMV rep in a very friendly way, all will be sunshine, and they will love you and help you and even joke around and smile at you.
BUT if you come there with some issue, that you want to blame on the entire world and not take responsibility or you come to complain about some injustice you feel the world has done to you, do not expect them to smile at you, or be in a helpful mood. These people get yelled at almost all day. Not only that, they deal with arrogant people who like to argue and yell and who don’t want to pay their fines or fees.
This is a job that no one wants to do, and it’s even made worse by people with attitudes.
The last time I was in the DMV I had to listen to a man argue with the DMV employee because he wanted to take his motorcycle license test on a scooter that was not a proper motorcycle. He was throwing a fit and saying how in other states it is allowed, and yadda yadda and how the California DMV is «WRONG» and how he knows he’s right. He caused such a fuss and was so terrible to the lady working there and her supervisor. Yes it did turn into a fight on both sides, you could just see the DMV reps getting heated and upset, because they deal with this BS all day long from ignorant people who think they wanna tell the DMV how they should do their jobs.
Let me tell you something… If you came here and gave this DMV 1 star, and said that the DMV person was rude to you … I guarantee you did something to warrant it… you pushed his/​her last button for the day, and you should be ashamed. These people work extra hard and go home with higher than normal blood pressure and they do NOT get paid enough to put up with the BS they put up with. Yet, day in and day out they come into their jobs and they are there for you.
The state laws and lawmakers are who you should be mad at not them. Write your congressman/​woman if you think there is some injustice, but do not take out your problems on the person at the DMV they’re only doing their job.
I give this DMV 2 stars because I’ve been in DMVs where there is no wait, or hardly any wait, where the place is super clean and not that many people in there.
This DMV can be easily packed to the brim, with people waiting outside even, and everyone is all crammed together waiting to be seen. Even with an appointment it will take about 20 – 30 minutes minimum.
They get two stars for trying… and every time I have been there everyone who has been there has been amazingly friendly to me.
Maybe that’s because when I get there and say «Oh, I made a big boo boo, I forgot to pay my registration on time, I’m sorry… how much do I owe?» They feel relieved, because I’m not arguing with them, I’m not bitching at them, I’m not trying to blame them for the fact that I failed to pay my fees on time. I’m there saying sorry and paying what I owe.
I am thankful I don’t have to drive all the way to Los Angeles to do this. Thank you DMV for being there!
