After calling around, looking for sausage casings, I stumbled upon this great little Mexican market in El Rio. I was looking for a good butcher to buy the ingredients to make Spanish chorizo. This place had everything I needed and a great price. The market is small, but very clean and everything is neatly displayed and organized. The butcher is located in the rear part of the store and they have just about everything you would need. There were four butchers behind the counter, chopping, cutting and slicing away. The guy who appeared to be the boss was super helpful and answered all my questions. After bagging my casings, he realized he didn’t give me the right amount and corrected it by adding more. I LOVE small family markets… it’s so different than going to Ralph’s or Vons or even Vallarta(which I really like). You just get that personal neighborhood feeling. Vallarta had casings for $ 30 a pound. Colima gave me a pound for $ 10 I will definitely be going back!

A great Carniceria(Butcher Shop) and general store. On Vineyard, there are at least three or four carnicerias right next to each other so it can be difficult to decide which one to go to just by looking. This is definitely my favorite carniceria on the block. As soon as I walked in, I noticed that it was full of people and doing a brisk business which is always a good sign. Anyway, as for the meat counter, it was just what I was looking for. There were 4 butchers working hard to keep up with all the shoppers. The meat is high quality, the Ranchera Preparada(seasoned flap steak marinated in onions, cilantro, and spices) was fresh and well-prepared. They also had fatback(which can be hard to find), and I got a great deal on pork butt to make some homemade breakfast sausage. An additional bonus, the butcher spoke English. Although I speak Spanish, I don’t know all the vocabulary for the various parts of the cow and pig so his help was welcome. Great prices, too. Recommended.

A great neighborhood market with a fantastic meat department. Sometimes I feel out of place that I’m not a Latino, bit it’s worth it for there meats. They have a great Ranchera steak. For those who don’t know what Ranchera is, it’s a marinated thin steak with onions and calintro. Perfect for the grill. Worth going for there meat deptartment.
