Found this place on a fluke. I am so happy we did. You MUST try the calamari. Pizza was great too. Everything we have tried has been awesome.

I have been coming to this place since the very first week it opened. When Ron«Ricco» owned the place I lived close by and eat there at least once sometimes twice a week. That has been years ago and the new owners continue to do a good job. Food is good and the service and chit chat between you and the servers really makes the place. Personal touch of a locally owned spot keeps me coming back when I am in that area.

Ricco’s is wonderful. They are established and consistent with their service and food. We eat their often and have never had a bad experience. Location could use a refresh but that is due to years of traffic. If you want good traditional Italian at a very reasonable price look no further.

My husband and I drove in from out of town early this evening for a concert at JCCC. Unilocal reviews were very complimentary about this restaurant so we thought we would eat there. As this was a Sunday, I called to confirm that the restaurant was open and still seating for dinner. The woman with whom I spoke was very pleasant, said they were open until 10 and clarified their location in regard to cross streets at College Blvd. Traffic delays on westbound I-435 in KS got us to the restaurant with only an hour for dinner. Clearly popular, they had lots of customers. A gentleman who appeared to be the owner, when asked by us, was candid that it might be a stretch to be away in time for the theater. We appreciated that he was honest about this. He then stated that the restaurant closes at 10pm with the last seating at 9:30. We thanked him, stated we probably would not be out of the concert in time to make it back yet today but looked forward to coming another time. As we then exited the restaurant he handed us their to go menu and in a sharp, critical tone of voice stated we might consider making a reservation in the future. We were shocked at the way he spoke, as were 2 other couples exiting at the time. They had heard our full conversation with him & equally were turned off by his manner. Stating that they were regulars, they remarked the food was good. Ironically, the concert ended earlier than we expected. So, we went back to their restaurant for a late dinner before we began the long drive home. Only to be told… their kitchen closes at 9:00 pm! May be a long time before we try or suggest to others this place!

Let me tell you, I had the Garbage pizza and it was not something you would toss in a Dempsey dumpster, if you know my expression. It was delicio. I wish they had a Karaōke night, because I was thinking of belting out some Dino Martin tunes. Oh well, probably best. If I had to sing for my supper I would look like Starvin Marvin.

Jaime is the best! Always full of life and makes you feel right at home even if you’re new. I only stop by to see her and she was the first bartender I met when I first stopped by.

We brought our niece here for dinner and we started with the 3 cheese garlic bread. It was really cheesy and good and served with a warm marina sauce. As an FYI, we arrived about 6:00 and without a reservation and we got the last table available and sat in the bar… Eve had the lasagna and thought it was wonderful. She refused to share her leftovers with anyone! I had the seafood combo and thought it was good — I would have liked more seafood, but that’s not the point. Hubby had a spicy chicken and sausage pasta. It was a solid dish, but he would probably get the lasagna next time. This is one of those restaurants that walk around with a dessert tray instead of handing you a menu. I’m sure the only reason we ordered dessert that night was because we kept watching those wonderful desserts walk by. Even though none of us were really hungry, we managed to polish off the wonderful chocolate cake!

If you haven’t had the Sonoma Torte, you haven’t lived! And if you really want to wake up your taste buds, throw in a Spinach Salad with bleu or feta cheese(I love the feta!). I will miss you, Rico’s– but I’ll stop by every time I’m back in town! Just waiting for that Spiedini with Alfredo Sauce right now(yes, they let me «customize» shamelessly!)– come on over and indulge – I promise, you won’t regret it!

We live nearby, and saw this place in the top 10 Italian restaurants on Unilocal around our part of town. My wife and I decided to give it a try! We were not let down — solid food, extremely expedient service with a smile(maybe a little too fast??), and a nice location. We shared the Sonoma Torte appetizer, and were only about to get through a third of it — IT’S HUGE! You could easily make a dinner for two out of this. it’s a nicely seasoned, oven-fired flatbread with a huge«slice» of layered marscapone-and-goat-and-cream cheese/sundried tomato pesto/basil pesto. Incredible! They happily boxed up our leftovers for us. Wife had the Chicken Florentine, and I had The Mediterranean oven-fired pizza. Both were very good. The chicken in the Florentine dish had a nice, flavored breading to it, noodles were cooked well, and the cream sauce was rich and creamy. The pizza was a perfect marriage of Greece-meets-Italy. Leftovers of both. The facility was standard strip-mall fare and clean. Ambiance was somewhere between Pizza Hut(black drop-tile ceiling and vinyl table covers) and Italian restaurant(real, lit candles, pressed-white linens and dimly lit). I always like to be able to hear my wife at a low talking volume in Italian restaurants, and it passed that test with flying colors during a busy time of service. We were too full for dessert, but they brought the dessert tray out for the couple next to us, and all of them looked incredible. Food = 3.5÷5 Facility = 2⁄5 Service = 4⁄5 Ambiance = 2⁄5 Value = 4⁄5

This place is a little bit hidden if you aren’t looking for it. It was nice inside, nothing incredibly special. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. It was decent; not the best I’ve had but pretty good. My date had the Mac and cheese. She liked it but said she could make it better at home. For our meals and one glass of wine each the bill was just under $ 50. I’ve had better Italian for less, but overall it was a fine experience.

Service was good. Food was ok. I had the Veal Parmesan and thought it was pretty good. My girlfriend had the Veal Scaloppini and it was way too salty.

Love this place and have been going for years. The only reason I give it four stars was being I was a little disappointed last time we went with the salads. Waaaaaay too much dressing and hardly any toppings. The pasta just tasted kind of bland. But of course, the pizza was superior. I will be back and hopefully they’ll get back on their games with salad.

I think this place has been open FOREVER but somehow I’ve never made it there even though I love pizza. Now that I’m working in a new part of town I’m trying new restaurants and this is one I will definitely be back to! The lunch special is only $ 8.99 for a salad and a mia pizza. So I’m thinking small house salad, small pizza. No, you can choose from several salad options. I had the Mediterranean which had tons of kalamata olives, feta, red onions, romaine and a yummy dressing(I think balsamic?) I choose the Art & Basil pizza which has chicken, pesto and artichoke hearts. This pizza is very large for one person. I ate half and took half home. The crust is awesome. Perfectly thin and crispy from the wood oven. My friend had the margarita pizza and we swapped slices. It was very good as well. As I said, I will be back. Might go for dinner, I’ve heard the pasta is good too.

I visited Ricco’s this evening for some carry out pasta while traveling for business. First, I have to say I appreciate that they are open late. I really wanted a nice meal after my day ran long and Ricco’s fit the bill. I first want to comment on the wonderful bartender who both took care of my order over the phone and also made sure everything was packed up for me. She was extremely kind and personable– it can be a rare thing when a bartender has a full bar and then has to take a carry out order. I would visit again just because the customer service was so outstanding. The food too was excellent. I ordered spagetti and meatballs, and it was outstanding. The sauce had the perfect balance of sweetness and garlic. The pasta was cooked nicely and the meatballs tasted great. It came with a nice side salad with fresh lettuce and good dressing. The garlic bread was cooked perfectly as well. I would definitely return and will remember this place next time I’m in Kansas City.

Wood fired pizza is the best. They offer many unique varieties. Salad dressings are all made in house and can’t be beat! The friendly and very personable staff know the menu inside and out, and are a delightful source of insight for a newcomer.

The food was good and a fair price– it’s hard to find Italian in this city! I ordered the Chicken Parm Sandwich: the chicken was well cooked, but a little underwhelming flavor wise; and they should have forgotten the bun! It would have been better off. It came with a Caesar Salad, which was nothing special. The wine specials were good. They won me over with their dessert! Where everything else had been just ok, their desserts were KNOCK-YOUR-SOCKS-OFF good. And they’re smart! They bring the desserts out to your table. As a usual eater, this was the nail in the coffin– I had to get something. And that something was the best cannoli in KC!

We wanted a pie with more substance than a ‘Spin’ version – and far generous toppings than that, so we set out for Ricco’s. Having been here before, and had a so-so time, we decided that the Garbage pizza(plenty of toppings) would fill the bill. We were seated with little waiting, and were attended quickly by our server, a nice young man with close cropped black hair.(Name escapes me – but his service is memorable.) We had the Garbage Pizza(next step up from the mini) and had enough for two adults and two slices to bring home. It was as delicious as remembered. We did make two changes to their basic formula, in that we added black olives and ‘roast garlic’. The latter proved to be a problem. Instead of the usual golden-brown diced garlic of other experiences, the garlic on this pie was presented as an array of probably 10+ entirely not fully cooked garlic cloves. We brought the item to our server’s attention and it was removed from our bill without question(as we removed the cloves from our pie!) The wine list is ample and the best deal is to be had with the purchase of a full bottle. The restaurant has the proper license to allow you to take the rest of a remaining botlle with you in a sealed bag for later use. Who can go wrong? A good, solid experience that solidifies our membership in the frequent visitor club!

In a city that seriously lacks good Italian food, it is always nice to find a spot that fits that carb craving. I have been here a few times and never had a bad meal. The flavors are great and the pastas perfectly cooked. This is a great spot for pizza. Also a great place for a romantic evening. They have a small patio that is nicely shaded and perfect for an evening of dining when there is nice weather or drinks after work. Service can be a little slow sometimes, but always super friendly. A little more variety for the lunch menu would be nice. The lunch focus is pizza and salads. A few pasta options should be included. make sure you try the lentil sausage soup!

I really wanted to love this place based on the reviews, but I didn’t see the hype. I ordered my usual fav Chicken Parm. And it was just ok, cooked right but the taste wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. I also ordered a side of steamed broccoli and it was just so/so. A little over done and not much flavor. However, my boyfriend ordered a Mia sized Garbage Truck pizza(ha nice name I know) and he LOVED it and wants to go back, so maybe I just missed out because I didn’t try their wood fire grilled pizzas! We sat outside on a cute little patio over looking some trees, they had some flowers in planters next to each table, which of course attracted bees, so we had a guest with us most of our lunch. I was not a fan! So we will be eating indoors next time. I’m willing to go back and see if my opinion of this place changes. So maybe I will be updating this review in the near future.
