Nellie’s will deliver* to you classic flavored cupcakes using recipes passed down from generation to generation! With our cupcakes, we use traditional, timeless flavors. However, they are far from ordinary! Our recipes date as far back as the 1940’s and bring back the rich, old fashioned favorites!

History

Established in 2014.

Meet Nellie! She was a proud southern woman seen here on the Mississippi coast. She loved to cook and bake, as most women of her time grew up doing. She was also a woman of faith and family. So her name could not be forgotten, and was passed down to her young cousin Carrie Nell. Carrie Nell (grandma to owner, Tara) was known for her sweets! She loved to bake her cakes and candies. She was an amazing woman and loved nothing more than her family and God. After she passed away in 2011, her great granddaughter was born and the tribute continued. Tara’s daughter was named Natalie Nell. After all these years, the sweet spirit and fiery personality remains the same for all the «Nellies» of the south.

Tara B created Nellie’s Classic Cakes to bring back to mind the old fashioned flavors that these remarkable women loved to create. She has a passion for baking just like the generations before her. She hopes to bring back those timeless memories for everyone!

I am originally from Brandon, Mississippi. I spent the first 10 years of my life there, and then moved up to Kansas City. I attended Kansas State and then met my wonderfully patient and supportive husband, Sean. I had always been a helper in the kitchen for my grandma and mother, and so my love for baking began. About 8 years ago, I became a huge fan of cupcakes. I originally began making very ornate decorations atop a basic cupcake. They were beautiful and creative, but it was taking me hours to decorate a single dozen. Once our family started to grow, I no longer had that kind of time. So for the past 5 years, I have brainstormed to come up with a way to still be creative and produce what I think my customers look for in a cupcake: Classic flavors and textures that make your mouth water once you speak the name. No funky flavors to wonder about. It will be even more than what you expected!
