Icing On The Cake

We honestly don’t have a clue what happened. We met with Icing on the Cake a couple of weeks ago to discuss having her make our wedding cake. We had a fun meeting and really thought she might be the right fit for us. We then then tried the samples she sent home with us, and they were amazing. My fiancé emailed her (her preferred form of communication) the following day to tell her that we really liked the samples and wanted to see about trying some of the flavors that we had discussed in our meeting. After a week of not hearing back, she emailed her again, and then a few days later, tried calling. It’s now been over 2 weeks and we’ve heard nothing from her. We’re just assuming that she decided she didn’t want to work with us and wasn’t professional enough to tell us, so we’re moving on. I will say, her white cake is incredible, but I can’t recommend that you do business with someone who doesn’t communicate, especially about something as important as a wedding cake.

Lynne made my wedding cake and it was phenomenal. She does samples of all her cake flavors and can do virtually any design. She is straight forward and easy to work with. She also makes you a one year anniversary cake for free, so you don’t have to freeze the top tier. Lynne now makes all my cakes, but she does get busy during the wedding season and puts her brides first (totally understandable). Best white cake I’ve ever had, just melts in your mouth.

Our wedding cake from Lynne was fantastic! I planned my wedding from out of town, and Lynne was extremely accommodating. She gave my mom a bunch of samples so that we could taste everything when we were in town, and she was very flexible about later meeting with us the one weekend in town we had available. Beyond that, her books were full of great ideas, and she was very open to doing different flavor combinations. For instance, we wanted a German chocolate cake layer, and she made the cake and special frosting from scratch!
Most importantly, the cake got rave reviews at our wedding. It looked beautiful and tasted great! Highly recommend.

I couldn’t have asked for a better set of wedding cakes. They looked great, they tasted great, and the price was better than a lot of other vendors I looked at. Best of all, I pretty much told Lynne (the owner/​cake maker) exactly what we wanted, and that was that. Nothing else to worry about. So, if you’re a prospective bride/​groom, here’s what you probably want to know.
Flavor: At our cake tasting, she gave us some delicious white cake to take home. She held an open house a few months later and loaded us (and anyone else who walked in) with a take-​out box full of different flavors. For our wedding, we chose white, lemon, strawberry with raspberry filling, chocolate with fudge filling, and red velvet. Unfortunately I was only able to try the white and lemon, but both were moist, spongy and wonderful. I got glowing reviews from our guests as well. We also got some mints for the reception… melt-​in-​your-​mouth delicious.
Design: We asked for a pretty simple bridal cake design (see photo) and it looked great. The real star was our robot groom cake. Our theme for the wedding was robots because the hubs makes a lot of robo art, and he gave Lynne a rough sketch of what we wanted. You can see the photo, but it’s exactly as we imagined it, even better in fact. I really wanted to have a cake like this, and a few other vendors either said it would cost us an arm and a leg, or they didn’t know how to do it. I had some reservations when Lynne told us it’d be really easy, but it ended up looking amazing.
Cost: Pretty average ($ 3 – 3.50/slice, $ 10 fillings/​tier, delivery charge, refundable equipment deposit). I found, in my search for the perfect cake vendor, that a lot of places charged extra for things that Icing on the Cake did not charge for… transparency is a good thing. As far as the equipment deposit goes, we paid $ 45 for that, and after the wedding I discovered that my dog chewed up most of the cake pillars. However, after explaining it to Lynne, she still tore up the check and said she understood. Again, exceeding expectations, this time with great customer service.
We were also given more than 150 guests worth of cake for no extra charge. Our groom’s cake ended up being as tall as the bridal cake, so Lynne said she made the bridal cake a little higher. She also said she would make us a 1-​year anniversary cake instead of us having to save our top tier for a year, which never really ends up tasting good anyway. In short, I would gladly order another cake from Lynne, and I’ll refer as many people as I can to her business.
