Choga Korean Restaurant

The food was decent, but the service was horrible. I think of all the restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, this was the worst service I’ve ever had. When I walked in, there were about 6 – 7 tables open. The waiter looked up at me and then continued to take a customer’s order so I stood at the front and waited patiently while she served customers that were already seated. I literally stood there for 10 minutes with the waiter knowing I was standing there waiting to be seated because we made eye contact a couple of times. Two parties walked in after me and were seated right away and given menus and water so I just seated myself. After that, I wasn’t even greeted or given a menu until 20 minutes later when I finally asked for water and a menu. The food was decent, but I never saw the waiter again for the rest of the meal period. I had to ask for a water refill and my check. Won’t be going back again because not only is the food pricey but it only tastes decent and if you add the worst service ever to the picture, it makes it not worth it at all.
Never going back again, even if you paid me.

One of the best places to find great Korean food in the Kansas City area. I love coming here for lunch. The place just recently did a renovation which has really improved the look and feel of the restaurant.
My only caution is service is really slow. So if you are looking to swing through during your lunch break, an hour may not be enough time. It seems for as busy as they are they would consider hiring more than one waitress.
If it’s not for their service this place is well deserving of a 4 star for their food. You definite get bang for your buck for their lunch specials. If you order of their bento box lunch special it includes your dish, a bowl of rice, a portion of salad, fried dumplings, noodles and a fruit.
My kids absolutely love their marinated short ribs. This is always a good selection to order for our friends who are just beginning to try Korean food.
I usually get the spicy squid dish which is the perfect amount of spicy. I’ve not been disappointed by the items I’ve ordered here. Highly recommended for the days that you aren’t on a time constraint.
Can’t wait to experience dinner here some night.

Came with a group of four at 6:30 on a Sunday night. Getting past the annoying doorbell and stares from seated customers, you could see several large parties that just got done eating.
Seated at a grill table we began to look at the three menus that were presented to us. We ordered the Jap Chae which had a strange taste. It tasted as if it was old and stale. The most enjoyable dish for our table was the Kalbe. It was incredibly tender, marinated in a sweet sauce. Most Korean restaurants that I’ve been to, we are able to cook are own food. Even with several times telling the severs that we’d like to cook our own meat they still kept coming by and placing meat on the grill. I feel that it makes us eat faster so it doesn’t get cold, which isn’t enjoyable. We had to ask each time to have our waters refilled and to receive more side dishes. The side dishes were pretty good. The kimchi was very mild. My family really enjoyed the omelette.
Prices are really high. Service could use major improvement. However, my family really seemed to enjoy it the food which helps offset the bill and service.

Unsure if my review is fueled by my not having have had Korean in almost a month. The décor could use a little attention. Rice paper is torn in places and one near the front of the restaurant has graffiti all over it. I cannot tell us this is be design or neglect.
The waitress seated me in the middle and I sank into the chair. It felt like sitting in a hammock. No support. No problem I just changed chairs.
Looked at the reviews and ordered the dolsot bibimbap. Temperature was good and portion just about right. I feel it could have used a little more of everything. Maybe today’s chef has smaller hands.
It was delicious. I ate all of it, including the all of the banchan. All together, it filled me up so I walked away happy.
I would like to offer to fix the rice paper if after the restaurant owner (s) and/​or management read this and don’t do it themselves. I like this place and feel it could be much better with a little added care. I want to come back but not if it falls to neglect.

I think this place rocks all korean restaurants in Kansas City. This is one of the originals and still taste like it first opened. The conservative owner walks around the front and to the back kitchen to attend to her customers and staff, this amazing lady works every time I go here. She’s very sweet if you can get a word out of her. The rest of the staff particularly the one that served us today was extremely attentive. Before I could look at the huge television in front of me, she brought out 6 side dishes.
I love the small rooms but it could get hot when the boiling stew or hot pot is on. The restaurant was renovated a couple of years ago and was nicely setup for customers to sit and cook at their own table. The restaurant is fun for any size group. I highly recommend getting Jae Yuk Bogum if anyone’s interested in spicy pork and Jap Chae for stir-​fry noodles.
Don’t just try water either, corn tea is refreshing and different. Try it on a hot day. You can thank me later!

Normally I really love this place but this time around it was a bit of a let down. The service was a tad slow. They have since updated their menus and I think, have increased their prices.
If you’ve never had corn tea, give it a try. It’s a nice change from ice water.
We ordered the seafood pancake and the jap chae. They were both under the appetizer section but are priced about the same as an entrée. The pancake was nice but the jap chae didn’t taste right. Almost tasted like they served us old noodles. It tasted a bit stale and hard. No Bueno for us. We shared an entrée which was the number 8, the bone in la kalbi. They cook it back in the kitchen for us so we don’t end up smelling like Korean BBQ. Although I think they may skimp out meat when they do this. It was mainly bones, but did taste pretty good. The main thing I love about Korean food in the states is that the sides are all FREE! (In London they charge for everything!). But even the sides today were not good. The main two dishes I love are the beansprouts and kimchi, but tasted a bit bland. And over all the food was a bit too much for us two. We couldn’t finish it all!
I’ve been to a few other Korean places in town and although this visit kinda sucked, I’ll probably be back.
