I live in Kansas presently but have lived over half my life in California and Arizona. Rubio’s use to be the type of place you could count on for an enjoyable, fresh, and consistent alternative to ‘fast food’. I am writing this review at 0430. Not because I’m a morning person, but rather out of a cautious need to be close to the bathroom. I ordered food for myself and my 2 parents. We all had different choices. My moms cheese enchiladas had no cheese, or anything for that matter inside the tortilla. The nachos(which did have cheese), was so heavily microwaved that the chips could not be separated from each other, the cheese burnt, all with an unappealing odor. My ‘Especial’ tacos were incinerated beyond belief. Goodbye Rubio’s.

This place has good food, the sad part is that it is completely a a mess when it comes to operations. It is the slowest service I have ever had. I go every Tuesday, and I have waited as long as 43 minutes AFTER ordering, for them to get my order ready. Tonight they just completely forgot my order, and 4 people that came in after me got their food first. It is faster to go to a sit down and order, eat, pay tip and leave. Just a poorly run establishment.

The food here is kind of nasty. Sort of a sit down version of taco bell. Basically it’s fake mexican food.

Really great fish tacos. Fast service. Big pieces of fish. 1.50 each. Only complaint is the salsa is from new york city. …

I ordered the shrimp and bacon burrito and it was great! I had heard mixed reviews about Rubio’s but I really enjoyed my burrito. I was surprised at how much flavor it had! It didn’t look that big when I got it so I was worried, but I was full by the end. You get chips with every order and they have 3 or 4 kinds of different salsa to choose from. I really liked the green salsa! My wife’s ordered the steak burrito and it was a little less flavorful. She had to add salsa to it because it was a little dry! We also ordered a churro and those were pleasantly good as well. I am not a huge fish fan but I would definitely order the shrimp burrito again.

I love Chipotle, but this place is all about the seafood! They have chicken and beef dishes also, but their fish tacos and shrimp burritos were just awesome. The fish tacos were full of flavor and the fish tasted fresh. The shrimp burrito had big pieces of shrimp in every bite. They also have a nice selection of salsas and peppers to add to your meal. This is a great quick place for fresh Tex-Mex-Cali food.

It’s fast food. Mexican wannabe. At least the water is cold. Wife really liked street tacos and the beer.

I used to enjoy going to Rubio’s, but the experience has gotten worse over time. On the last visit, the person bringing our food practically threw it at us; to be fair, the place was so understaffed that I think she was just frazzled. My burrito was not properly made, and neither was my companion’s. All in all, there’s no reason to go to Rubio’s for food and service I wouldn’t find acceptable at Wendy’s or Burger King.

I used to love getting fish tacos at the Rubios in Southern California when I lived there, but I quickly learned not to order anything that comes out of the sea from the Rubios in Oro Valley, unless you like the smell and taste of un-fresh fish. I like their nachos, chicken tacos, and burritos, but the burritos are way too small for the price. It seems like when you get take out, they make the burritos even smaller. So, when I’m in the mood for a couple of tacos or some nachos in Oro Valley and I don’t want Taco Bell, I’ll go to Rubios, but just because it’s the only option. If Tucson/Oro Valley ever gets a Baja Fresh, which is much better fast-casual Mexican food, Rubios will be in trouble.

We go here for lunch one in awhile, primarily because it’s close. They have recently raised menu prices and made portions smaller. Might be ok if you love seafood tacos and burritos, but menu choices are otherwise limited. Recent visit cost a little over $ 20 for 2 small steak burritos and drinks. Not worth it.

Love Rubios for a quick tasty dinner. The fish tacos are great. Large piece of crispy fried fish with salsa, shredded cabbage and lime. They also serve beer which is a pleasant change from most fast food type places. They have a small out door patio with a nice view of the Catalinas. Been going for around 10 years and never disappointed.

I’ve been so disappointed lately with Rubios. The customer service is consistently terrible, and surprisingly the manager there is the worst; he never smiles or makes eye contact, and is rude when addressing his customers. I tried the new California bowl, and the chicken was disgusting. It was rubbery, and hardly tasted like real food, nor did it look like the picture advertising it. Definitely not returning anytime soon.

4 stars only because the place was not kept clean, maybe due to lack of staff. looked like the manager was busing tables :( I had the mango habanero mahi mahi taco and was really good. Fish tacos are always good and largest portion of fish I’ve ever had in a fish taco. The prices are a bit steep though and they need happy hour to be during a time when people will frequent here instead of the an odd-ball time like Tuesday late afternoon. We always come back though! Be sure you get there early, it gets packed around noon!

Loved our lunch – read the reviews and thought we would try it. Great fast food – had the original fish taco and a chiplote ranch salad with a few chips. Delicious and fresh. Really liked their salsa bar. Staff very friendly and helpful. My friend had the orange chipotle grilled shrimp burrito and he loved it. Flavorable and delicious. Very clean restaurant.

I can’t believe I’m reviewing fast food. But so many reviews on this place make it out to be more than it is. It’s just a fast food joint. Not a real restaurant. It’s ok. For lunch? not a fine dining establishment that warrants an in depth review.

I had the Rubio’s Springs Talipia Burrito(house blackened) which was very delicious as well as a cheese quesadilla. The quesadilla had so much cheese it was the best quesadilla I’ve ever had.

Healthy, flavorful fast food… is there even such a thing? Rubio’s appears to have made that possible. Delicious grilled seafood tacos, available in whole wheat, fresh salsas of your choice from the bar in a pleasant and comfortable Southern California beach environment. Highly recommended!

I’m not usually drawn to fish tacos, but I must say that the original fish tacos were great! Squeeze some fresh lime juice on them and maybe some of their green salsa and they should not let you down. I ate here three times during my one week visit to the Oro Valley area, and I’ll go back again when I’m back in town.

I often go here when I’m hankering for Mexican food and I’m in a hurry. This is fast food Mexican style but is WAY better than Taco Bell! Plus, I don’t think there are any decent Mexican restaurants in Oro Valley. I usually don’t eat fish and most of the time actually hate it but I do like the blackened Ono fish tacos they serve here. I have to say this about the management — they are always friendly and the staff is constantly cleaning. Every time I’ve been here, the place is clean which is a big plus for me!
