Mark Riechman, DDS

So, where do I begin? Let me start by saying this, I HATE leaving bad reviews. I truly, truly do. I have only ever left bad reviews for businesses when the service was THAT bad that it gave me nightmares and and made a permanent impression in my mind. Having said that, I will begin.
Mark Riechman absolutely should NOT be practicing cosmetic dentistry. After my experience with him, I am ultimately convinced that his work is about his paycheck and not the patient’s comfort or the art of dentistry. In January, I went to Mark to discuss veneers. He recommended the «social six» to me, although every dentist I have talked to since has informed me that it should always be suggested to the patient to do veneers in fours (4, 8, 12, you get it). We discussed shade and Mark showed me a few shades, but never measured them against my natural teeth. He just told me that «most patients» choose B1 and I will be very happy with the color. I took the bait. We also discussed size and we agreed that they should match the length of my current natural teeth (Tooth #9 was chipped, so we used tooth #8 for length). He prepped my teeth and placed temporaries which he claimed would look better than my current natural teeth, but they looked terrible and were super white appearing to also be made in a hurry with bumps and uneven surface. He didn’t even attempt to align them with my gum line. I would also like to throw in that the experience was very uncomfortable with TWELVE, yes twelve, shots of novocaine, having water shot up my nose consistently and feeling like I was drowning and listening to mark talk down to his staff.
Fast forward to the exciting day of receiving my veneers. Mark showed me the teeth on a model mouth, not my mouth and they look fantastic on the model. However, this gives me no indication on how they will look on me. He loosely set them in place, then hurriedly let me take a look while warning that I cannot move at all or I may swallow one. From what I could see they seemed ok, but I was in trendelenberg with a mirror being held over me. He cemented them in place, then to my horror, I looked in the mirror and saw these enormous, terrible Freddie Mercury teeth glued to my mouth. How could anyone think this looks good and how could my dentist believe that these were acceptable? My naturally A1 shade teeth looked like they were rotten since the veneers were such a glowing shade of white/​gray. They were awful and I didn’t know how to handle it so I went home that night.
I called the next day with my concerns. To make a long story short, Mark redid several of my teeth for me since some were very obviously bulging at the gum line, then it only got worse with some teeth protruding out further than others and so on. He sanded the surface of the next set down when he realized he glued them in out of alignment, and the experience just became worse and worse. He never once admitted to his mistakes and even defended sanding the surface of veneers by saying MANY dentists do this. He would say things like, «I am going to beat up your gums now» or «bear with me» while he would use pliers to pry off his ill-​fitting veneers. My stomach turns just typing this now.
In his defense (if that’s what you want to call it), he gave me a refund, but the damage is already done. Because of the veneers being redone so many times, I now have horrible sensitivity issues with my teeth and my gums have receded. I am so disappointed with my experience and a full refund simply wasn’t enough for all of the pain, discomfort and emotion he has caused me. This is TRULY my worst nightmare.
I have since had the work redone by a well-​renowned dentist with lots of experiences with difficult cases. I was custom shaded at the dental lab, since I am now a «difficult case» due to the hack work Mark had done to me. My temps were made the same shade as my permanent veneers and were carefully shaped and molded to look natural and fit well to my gum line. My work was done with only four shots of novacaine, not 12, and I was more comfortable since my new dentist has great staff and technological equipment to do the work without suffocating under a shooting stream of water. On the day I received my new veneers, we did trials with several different cement shades to assure the most natural look and my dentist used a temp cement to try the teeth on before permanently placing them. No one ever asked me what size I would like my veneers because, after all, there is a particular proportion that the teeth should have and the lab technician made them just right for my mouth. And finally, much time (as in hours) were spent working on the prep, the placement and my bite and tweaking after placement. I spent a total of about 7 hours between my two veneer appointments which was much more appropriate for the level of work taking place in my mouth.
Sorry Mark, you should really perfect your art before causing any more trauma.
