HORRIBLE — The WORST fence company in the entire tri-​state area, possibly the worst fence company in the entire world! These guys are psycho freaks and you will avoid them at all costs if you value your home, yard, and personal safety.
We had just moved to NJ and purchased a very expensive home in an upscale neighborhood — a home that needed a new fence. We found these lunatics online and thought that they’d be a good bet as their prices were slightly lower than some of their competitors… wrong move! The old saying «you get what you pay for» was definitely true in this case.
Academy Fence sent a motley crew out to our home… I’m talking gross scumbags here; one gentleman actually pissed in our rhododendron bushes in broad daylight! The halfwit crew was so sloppy that our fence literally looked like crooked teeth — none of the posts lined up, it looked like something out of a horror movie. In addition to the most outlandishly poor craftmanship/​installation you could possibly imagine, our new friends splashed wet cement all over the fence boards and all over our yard and patio.
When I called Academy to voice my concerns I was put on hold for 20+ minutes. Instead of generic muzak while on hold, Academy Fence Company, Inc forces their clients to listen to extremely inflammatory, outlandish, right-​wing conspiracy theory touting radio shows blasted at top volume. By the time a live human actually got on the phone to address my needs I was ready to vomit into the receiver.
I explained my concerns to the owner of Academy re: the poor quality six foot wooden privacy fence that had been installed around my entire property. He informed me that he (the owner) «already had (my) money so it was too late for complaints». In addition, according to the owner of Academy Fence, «if (I, the customer) pushed the issue any further he would personally come to my home, rip up the entire fence, and smash it through the windows of (my) home».
Yes, you read that right — the owner of Academy Fence Company, Inc. of Orange, NJ actually threatened to severely damage my property because I wasn’t satisfied with his product. Of note, he was actually screaming into the phone during this conversation. The man was so emotionally unstable and out of control that I was concerned about my personal safety (remember, he knows where I live).
I telephoned the Academy Fence salesman who had seemed reasonable when he came to our home and sold us this atrocious product. He was apologetic and advised me never to speak to the owner of the company as he is «unstable», in his own employee’s words.
To make a long story short, the entire fence was redone (largely by the aforementioned salesman, incognito, so as not to provoke the crazy owner).
This situation is in the process of being reported to the Better Business Bureau in hopes that Academy Fence’s business license will be investigated and ultimately revoked to protect other homeowners from having a similar experience with them.
