History

Established in 1998.

The Pilates Center of Olympia was the first fully-equipped, fully-certified studio between Seattle and Portland to provide co-ed instruction in the method of Pilates. Pilates at Play began as our domain name; chosen as a phrase most aptly describing our philosophies and belief that fitness should be fun. Given the right atmosphere and toys, e.g., colorful fitness-balls and playground swings; exercise can potentially tap into the nostalgic muscle memory of childhood. The more familiar an activity feels, the more an individual is inclined to want to continue and embrace the experience as a regular part of their life.

Embracing the value of levity and play as crucial to wellness and the human experience, in 2013 we legally changed our business name to Pilates at Play.

Located in one of Olympia’s historical buildings, our space provides 1,800 square feet of vibrant color, high ceilings and a comfortable temperature — warm in the winter, cool in the summer.

Meet the Business Owner

Trisha H.

Business Owner

Trisha Hatfield Graves is most comfortable modestly standing behind her team of excellent fellow instructors as both mentor and admirer; convinced that ‘the sweetest people find their way to her studio’.

An internationally recognized Master Instructor featured at retreats in the UK, France, and Italy, Trisha has 25 years of experience including 4 years of certification in the method of Pilates and is a certified Pole Dancing for Fitness instructor.

Combining the fundamentals of Pilates, irreverent humor, and an innovative use of «toys» (playground and yoga swings to poles) Trisha has built the studio’s reputation on her signature style; approachable, playful and smart.

The philosophy embraced by Trisha and her instructors is quite simple.

«If it ain’t fun — they ain’t comin’ back».

Focusing on each individual’s strength rather than weakness, not only creates a forgiving and non-judgmental environment, but fosters a sense of «belonging» to something far greater than ourselves.
