History

Established in 1950.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates was founded by the late Dr. Benjamin J. Gans. Dr. Gans immigrated from Drzsec, Poland, in 1936. He received his DDS degree from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1946. He completed his residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, under the direction of Dr. Orion Stuteville. He developed his private practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the early 1950’s. He served on the teaching programs of Loyola University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois, and Cook County Hospital. In 1972, he established the residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Gans believed in a humanistic aspect of patient care along with applying a biological basis to the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Business Owner

Dr. Schwartz is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 1975, he joined the practice of Dr. Benjamin J. Gans (now deceased) and Dr. Roger H. Kallal, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates. He became a partner in 1980.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Los Angeles, California, he completed his dental training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He served two and one-​half years in the United States Navy Dental Corps. Dr. Schwartz completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. He has been actively involved with residency education since that time. He presently is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology-​Dental Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and maintains a full-​time private practice where he provides the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
