History

Established in 1950.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates was founded by the late Dr. Benjamin J. Gans. Dr. Gans immigrated from Drzsec, Poland, in 1936. He received his DDS degree from St. Louis University School of Dentistry in 1946. He completed his residency training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, under the direction of Dr. Orion Stuteville. He developed his private practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the early 1950’s. He served on the teaching programs of Loyola University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois, and Cook County Hospital. In 1972, he established the residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Gans believed in a humanistic aspect of patient care along with applying a biological basis to the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Dr. Balcerak is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 1986, he joined the practice of Drs. Roger H. Kallal and Robert D. Schwartz, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, and has been a partner since 1994.

Dr. Balcerak is a Chicago native, and completed his undergraduate studies at Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with honors in 1979. He earned his dental degree at Loyola University School of Dentistry where his academic career was distinguished by numerous awards and honors, including Magna Cum Laude Honors, and membership in the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Balcerak maintains staff appointments at Adventist Hinsdale and LaGrange Memorial Hospitals.
