Olema Campground

The only reason for two stars instead of one is because the owner refunded one of the days of our reservation with No problem.
However, where do I begin? First: horrible location. This campground has all the beautiful trees cut down. All you see are the stumps of where trees used to be. It’s actually really sad to see because they were cut to make more camp sites. Second: upon arrival if you are put into the 300’s for a campsite good luck. It’s all sun! No trees anywhere. Third: there are raccoons and will get into your cooler! There are no wildlife boxes or any food storage besides your car. Also not really any signs that I saw that mention this either. Fourth: people are allowed to check in when ever. A couple arrived at 3 am when everyone is asleep and started pitching up there freaking camp right next to us. Slamming doors and everything. Like come on really? Fifth: supposedly wifi prolly works if your closer, didn’t work where we were. Bathrooms, ehhhh not so great been to better ones. Sixth: check your fire ring because there might be thing in there that are dangerous. Upon our arrival and first night apparently the people before us left a nice can of disguised beans in the ring under a bunch of ash that you don’t even realize until the can of beans blows up all over you while trying to enjoy a nice camp fire. Seven: honestly try and avoid this place. I would never camp here again. It’s not worth the money they are charging either for this campsite. Especially when your next to each other like a can of sardines just sitting right next to you. Also you can hear each other everywhere because there’s no trees to block sound or give of any privacy so get close with your neighbors because most likely you will hate them in one way or another. Whether it’s waking you up in the am or being loud at night it sucks. Wish this want the case but I hope this helps.

This is our second time here and we really love this place, what we don’t like… we are in 201 campsite, so we have a really good view of the bathroom. We watched the lady clean the bathrooms for about 4 ½ hours. Now nothing better than a clean bathroom, but when your wanting to shower or use the restroom that is am incredibly long time. I had to go ask how much longer she would be. So owners just a heads up on your salary, should never take that long to clean a bathroom. She took a long time on Saturday to.

We have been on a 4 week camping trip and this was the worst site we’ve stayed at in 3 states. It was super expensive! We paid 3 times the amount for an electric only site than what we paid for full hook ups in Oregon. We are camping with our children and had to pay an additional fee for each of them since the camp fee only «accommodates» 2 people. So they may be dog friendly but NOT family friendly. For the rate of $ 63(!!!) we parked in a grass field were no plant growth separated sites. And we didn’t even have a fire ring. Had to go haul one over from a vacant site. Their saving grace is their showers. My daughter and I went to use them before check out but they were being cleaned so we had to wait 20 minutes. While we were in the showers, someone came and told my husband he had to leave bc checkout was at noon. It was JUST noon. And we would have been gone had we not had to wait for the showers. Though the field was completely empty they had given our space to another camper. So my husband had to park our trailer next to the bathroom and have our children sit in the car and wait while we finished up. Don’t camp here. Just up Sir Frances Drake Blvd is a state campground.

The campground is nice and clean. We had power and water at our spot. Bathrooms, dump and laundry are available.
The lady in the reception was pleasant, professional and helpful over the phone and in person when checking in.
Bathrooms are older and «tight», but clean!
On a side note it was nice to not see long term, unkempt, trailers or motorhomes.
I recommend and would come back.

Stayed at an electric/​water site. Camp was full on the weekend, deserted after noon on Sunday. Electricity was constant, water good. Used the dump station and it worked fine. Location was good for trips to the «city» and up and down the coast, which is very popular. Initially, we were put in a site that was not level, for a week long stay – but, it was easily remedied by the friendly staff. Internet login is complex, but works well, even during peak periods.

Nice and right on Rte 1. Beware the roads in this area are very narrow. It was a challenge to get in and out of the area. Also bicycles everywhere. Great for our dogs.

Olema Campground gets 3 stars for being available last minute on a Friday night in the off season when all nearby campsites were booked way in advanced. You’re basically in an open field very close to your neighbors. It was recommended to us by the ranger from Samuel P Taylor who could tell we were active and wouldn’t actually spend much time at the campgrounds other than to sleep. I can imagine how chaotic and loud it would be when the grounds are full. Price is $ 42/​night which I think is way too high for what it is. There is free wifi though.

I have recently camped here before Memorial Day and was pleasantly surprised. We have a small RV and usually boon dock. We’re not much of the KOA type of people. Don’t like crowds. Even though this campground was pretty full, it was a super laid back group of people. Again, I really don’t like crowds so this is saying a lot for me. However, I am confused by a number of the Unilocal reviews on here. Face it, you are not going to camp here to «get away from it all» because it is just not that type of campground. If you want that, pack your stuff in and camp at one of the backpacking sites in Point Reyes. They are absolutely beautiful and well worth the effort if you do that sort of thing. If however, you have an RV or Trailer and you want the convenience of being close to all the hiking trails in the area, being able to bring back fresh oysters to your campground and enjoy the comfort of having clean facilities, well my friend this is your place!
I really don’t like parking lot campgrounds and that seems to be what most RV campsites are around here. That is not the case here. This campsite feels like a campground and very pleasant and friendly.
I’ve booked 4 more days here after Labor Day and I’m super excited.

Best campground I have ever stayed at. Cleanest bathrooms. Hottest (sometimes too hot!) showers. Good flat surfaces for tents. Overall quiet at night. Saw a small fox! It’s not camping unless there’s raccoon footprints on your table cloth in the morning!

My wife and I have stayed here often, but the experience this time was poor. Don’t expect your camping neighbors to respect the park rules or for any form of enforcement from management. Loud music throughout the afternoon and night as well as loud parties up to midnight.
Trailers and RVs are tightly packed along with numerous tents. The park seemed congested and due to the continued loud music and partying past 10:00 P.M. one wonders if there is adequate supervision. Young children were left to wander and play as parents partied.
Due to the water shortage the facility has gone to a 5 second shower button. The water flows for 5 seconds and then shuts off. One must push the button again just to get rinsed. The conservation is great. The problem is with the water temperature. The water temperature was extremely hot. It was impossible to shower as the water was near burning.

We stayed here Aug 14 and 15. Campground is easy to find and really convenient to Point Reyes National Seashore. We had an RV. Our site was really great — very shaded, level, easy access and convenient to the bathrooms. It was completely full when we were here. A little bit noisy in the evening but the quiet hours of 10pm — 8am were observed and it was VERY quiet at night, The owners were super nice and helpful. Showers/​bathrooms were clean and in good condition. Lots of kids — our 10 year old quickly found a few friends to play with. There is a restaurant just down the street (walking distance). Nearest grocery is in Point Reyes Station, about 3 miles north on 1.
If you have an RV, ask for one of the sites on the little cul de sacs — they are much nicer.
The only reason I didn’t give a 10 was because we have stayed at the KOA in Mt Rushmore, which is the Ritz of campgrounds! Otherwise this is a great choice and is very nice.

Was here during the week one time. It was nice because no one was there. Just went last weekend and it was just awful. It’s funny that a couple other reviews mention that it’s like a refugee camp because that’s exactly how it was. SUPER cramped, tons of people with a lot of people having multiple tents per spot. People were loud until really late in the night. It’s not peaceful or a way to get away and camp. If you don’t mind feeling like you are camping in downtown SF, go for it. If you like the peace that usually comes with camping don’t come here, or book during the week when no one is there.

This campground is so beautiful! I think other reviews that gave this place a low rating must have been confused… it’s very family friendly, has a kids play area, dog run, even a laundromat. We really enjoyed staying at this peaceful campground! Just a few things to know: Some rv sites do not have sewer hook up, but they do have a dump station. If you go to San Francisco for the day, it’s a nightmare coming back over the Golden Gate Bridge! That has nothing to do with the campground but just a good thing to know!

Wow, where to start?! This isn’t camping. We stayed in the tent camping area for two nights. The tents are crowded in with very little space. There are just a few trees. It’s essentially a parking lot. It feels like you’re staying in a FEMA refugee campground.
The management was polite, but turned a blind eye to issues in the park. A family with twelve, yes twelve, people pulled into the space adjacent to us. They set up four tents. The campground policy is six people, two tents, and two cars max. We complained. Management made the family move one of their tents to a different spot. They never checked back and the space was constantly way over capacity.
Also, there is nothing to do at the campground. Nada. My kids have never been more bored while camping.

If not for the proximity to great locales, Olema campground would get a one. Despite the cost the campground offers few of the features that make a worthwhile camping experience. The site itself is nothing to speak about. It is tucked between the main road and Point Reyes. No discernible trails lead from the campsite and it does not offer any pretty vistas. The tent area is completely open, offering no privacy or separation from the other campers. The permanent bathrooms are a long walk from most sites and are not well kept. At 2 to 3 times the cost of a normal campsite they should be pristine. Campsites like this always seem to attract the worst campers and our stay was no exception. A group of loud drunks partied away until 2;00am and no camp host intervened.
If planning a camping trip to this area stay farther north or palm ahead. The Taylor campground is nearby but very nice.

First time camping here. Scored a 4 just because my family has really bad allergies and the whole campsite was very dusty, and cars tend to drive faster than the 5 mph; not a lot of trees, just enough to create some shades areas over some camp sites. Other than that we’d score it a 5.
To make reservations: front desk is very nice and responsive via phone messages and emails. They require payment up front for your reservation; No refunds although rebooking/​using the credit for another date was easy peasy.
Kids friendly site. During the summer months obviously a lot of kids and families camping. But during quiet hours (10p-​8a) noise was minimal.
Activities they had shuffle board, horseshoes, volleyball net and equipment to checkout.
Restrooms. We’re pretty clean, they had cleaning staff that appeared to come in day and night to clean and replenish. Didn’t use the showers, but everyone seemed to use them. Interior lighting was good.
Campsite/​roads etc. Can be dusty. They do have a truck that comes through to spray day and night but if you are camping next to the road be prepared.
Hosts are nice and aren’t overbearing how some National Parks can be.
Pets are allowed and seen often on walks and at camp sites. They provide doggie doo-​doo bags on site. We didn’t use /​try the dog play park. NOTE: make sure your dog food is «put away» at night… the raccoons got us. So we started locking up in the truck.
Site is close to Point Reyes National Park beaches, light house, Tule Elk Reserve, and about 25 – 30 minutes from Stinson beach. Great location for a lot of activities. We called to ride horses and the cost was aprox. $ 50 for an hour long ride up the ride to overlook the ocean. If we go, we will rate on that site.

Perfect for post — hike relaxation.

Had a great time camping with a few of our friends. We were in Fir Loop close to the bathrooms. Easy walk for the ladies and the bathrooms/​showers were kept really clean. We did get raided by the raccoons the first night as they actually opened our coolers and went wild eating our food. I suggest putting all the food in your trucks at night. Had a great time playing horseshoes as well. We did have the manager come over and ask us to quite down the first night, but he was very friendly and nice about it. A couple miles from town if you need more food or other supplies. We plan to be back again soon.

After many years of tent camping, we finally upgraded to a travel trailer. I have never liked camping around RVs, and RV resorts have always seemed to me like the worst type of camping. So it was, with great trepidation, that we booked our very first «parking lot campground.» We arrived after dark, so there wasn’t much to see, but we easily found our loop and had plenty of room to back in our 20′ trailer, even with the neighboring spots full.
Fast forward to morning… I poke my head out the door, and I see… a really nice campground! What!!! Clean and grassy and lots of big trees and happy kids riding their bikes, and, most importantly, NO GENERATORS. IT never occurred to me that when everyone has hook-​ups, nobody needs to run their loud, peace-​disrupting generators! OK, so preconceptions about «parking lot camping» shattered. This might not be so bad after all!
We had a very roomy spot in the «Holly» loop. I would say that not all spots are created equal in this campground. We got very lucky booking this prime spot on a last-​minute cancellation. There are other, far more crowded spots that I probably would not have been so happy with. Any of the «loop» spots (named after trees) are nice ones, though.
Some other reasons to camp here:
–Super friendly staff
–Always hot showers (As another reviewer mentioned, some showers are better than others. At our bathroom, the middle shower had tons of water pressure, and the end shower put out a mist.)
–Dust control
–Cleanliness (The bathrooms do get trashy during peak times, but they were quickly cleaned.)
–LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! This is the prime spot for exploring Point Reyes (the visitor center is just down the street), and with very few other campground options nearby, this place really has quite a monopoly.
My only major complaint was that the campground store was poorly stocked (only the bare essentials) and closes early, which is an issue as there are really no other markets in Olema (though Point Reyes Station is nearby). Oh, and the Wi-​Fi is REALLY slow.
I would gladly stay here again, and I am quite grateful to them for making my much-​dreaded, first «parking lot campground» experience a positive one.
BONUS TIP: There is nowhere to find any real supplies in Olema, but there is an AMAZING market and some very good restaurants in Point Reyes Station. Definitely worth the two-​mile drive down the road.

Wow, $ 47.00 per night (Good Sam discount applied) and not even cable TV or any tv at all on the antenna. Good thing this campground doesn’t need either my review or repeat business!

I’d give you 3 for cleanliness and ease of locating and also for the gorgeous activities nearby (Beaches, hiking, etc.) but here are the detractors —
1. Too crowded — too many families, too many campers, too many activities and neighbors are WAY too close. People camp to «get away,» and you just can’t get away from anyone in this campground. Playgrounds, dogs, RV’s, hundreds of families, horseback riding — it’s just all too much.
2. Enforcement — 10pm — 8am is quiet time. I arrived at 10:00pm the first night so we were warned to «keep it down.» The following night, the ranger was nowhere to be seen as our neighbors partied, screamed, laughed and hollered until 1:00am.
3. No privacy — the campgrounds are located in the middle of a vast clearing between a ring of trees. As gorgeous as the area is, there is no shade, no escaping the weather and you are constantly wet because of the coastal location. The tall grass gets everything muddy and wet constantly (dew and fog every morning and evening). We spent the weekend soggy.
4. Maintenance — porto potties were never cleaned out from Friday — Sunday. By Sunday late morning (10am) the waste was almost overflowing. Just disgusting — thank God for the brick and mortar bathrooms which were a LONG trek from our camp site but worth it to not sit in someone else’s waste.
We’ll be camping elsewhere next time. Great crowd of people so it was a super fun weekend but the campgrounds need to do more to accommodate so many people or disallow so many people all at once.

I give this place 5 stars and they earned it.
1. I called a week before we came to get reservations. They offered me several options that fit the time we were going to be there. I asked them to e-​mail me the information so I could make a choice on camping sites. They did so promptly and without hesitation. When I called back with questions about the different locations, they were patient and described the different spots I was interested in. The result: Spot #176 in the back of the campground. Quiet with lots of shade, level and reasonable grass.
2. They honored a %10 Good Sam discount.
3. The showers were HOT and plenty of hot water. I love 30 minute hot showers! The only «issue» was that the showers are individual but the changing area is a common area. There are 2 showers per facility. The bathroom facilities seem older but they were as clean as you can expect for an older facilities. They were well maintained. Everything worked and nothing was broken.
4. The campground in general was well maintained. The lawns were all nicely cut, I did not see a single campsite out of service and dump facility was clean. The play area was small but adequate. They had horse shoe pits and shuffleboard areas all in good shape. Over all the campground was very quiet.
5. Location — This location is awesome. No more than .5 hour from anything in the area. The lighthouse, beaches, bike riding, Oyster Farms etc… All with-​in 30 minutes or less. What more can you ask for?
Complaints? NONE!!! This is not a «resort» campground. People do not bring you fufu coffeee in the morning, no one turns down your covers for you nor do they bring you a paper in the morning. This campground was as good as any I have been to and the price was exceptionally reasonable for the location.
One Observation: The camping circles are tight. especially when the occupancy is higher and people have their rigs parked by their trailers. You need to do a little recon before you pull in so you don’t have to spend 10 minutes backing up and pulling forward so you can back your trailer into the campsite. I watched many people play this exact same game during the 5 days we were there.

If I could I’d give it 3.75 or 3.5 stars.

–games
–great location near an incredibly beautiful area but the actual campground site is kind of meh in comparison
–no ice for sale
–wifi didn’t work at all on two different devices android or ios
–fire pit not cleaned out
–very close to your neighbors. By the way– to you idiots camped next to us who came, got drunk and the immature mid twentyish girl who at first was laughing and then cried for almost two hours while arguing with your boyfriend well after midnight– you SUCK.

Great place great location…
I can understand why some people have given this place bad reviews but that’s got nothing to do with the camp. I am a rookie camper and by camper I mean RV camping.
Came to this site as out first choice was sold out.
We made a good choice… Weather was good and area was super nice
Area is pretty clean they have a playground for kids and there’s a river that runs near the camp.
Yes the spots are close to each other but we made instant friends with each of out neighbors except a grumpy old man that prob was jealous that we parked our 40 footer next to his lil old
Camper.
Everyone we came upon was friendly and they had a story teller on sat which kept my nephew very entertained.
They have a truck everyone know and the. Water down the gravel road to keep the dust down which is good.
Bathroom facilities were not the cleanest or impeccable as some of other campsites but they were clean and well kept. (can’t compare a 5 star hotel to a holiday inn is what I’m trying to say)
But blame the salty air Hahahah…
Some people have complained about about raccoons but what do you want the camp to do??? Shoot them? That’s the campers fault for leaving food outside.
Overall we like the place it was good location had a friendly environment. Plus a bus stopped by that took us to point Reyes station for some goods…
If you looking for a nice super quiet place to stay then this is not your place… But if you want to bring your dog, kids and bikes and have a good time then this is def your place.
