Good value and best NE clam chowder I’ve eaten. Service is friendly but slow. Good stop on a cold day and after a few hours sledding

Ordered take out here 2 nights in a row to bring back to our cabin. Ordered the Nachos, the amount you get is huge! I had to save most of it for leftovers all weekend. Prices were very reasonable, and the food very good.

I have visited Old Forge numerous times, and this is the first I visited Slickers. What a mistake that was. This place is great. The beer was ice cold, which is a big plus, the waitresses were very friendly, the food was very good and the prices were very affordable. I got the fish fry and the fish was flaky and very tasty. I’m not a big fan of coleslaw, but I have to admit the slaw was awesome. I definitely will visit again and recommend it highly.

An couple families went with us as a group of 14, 8 kids and 6 adults. The adults sat in a circular table in the patio outside while the kids sat on the other side of the building, in a picnic table that didn’t seem to be apart of Slickers, which I didn’t like because we couldn’t see the children. While the parents talked, the kids walked over to the Old Forge Community swimming area in one of the lakes, which was in seeing view of the porch we ate at. When the kids were done they came back and everybody ate, all was good. Great place for kids and adults.

Great bar-style food with a bit of a twist. Came here for dinner after making the 5 hour trek from Boston, and needless to say we were famished. Based on reviews we were afraid we’d have to wait for a table, seeing as it was 7 on a Friday night. Thankfully we were seated right away. We started with the clam chowder based on reviews, it was ok. Maybe I’m spoiled living in chowder-central, but it didn’t blow any wind up my skirt. Not bad by any means, though. For dinner I got the garlic butter chicken wings and my boyfriend got the coconut chicken. Wings were delicious, crispy skin, moist, and covered in delicious butter and mounds of garlic. The fries were delicious. The coconut shrimp was pretty good(tasted like standard coconut shrimp you’d get anywhere), but the dipping sauce that was served with it was phenomenal. It’s a spicy raspberry sauce, an unexpected but welcome surprise. I dipped anything I could get my hands on into that sauce. Only other downside is the salt, or rather lack thereof. I’m not particularly into salty food, but I had to salt everything I got because there was just so clearly none added to any of the food. I can see how they might be trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, as people can always add salt but can’t take it away. A minor inconvenience for an otherwise tasty meal!

So– My family has visited the Adirondacks every summer since I was born, and in my memories, we’ve all visited Slickers 10 times if we’ve been once.(Probably more like 25!) We even have branded t-shirts and sweatshirts that we proudly wear around our hometown in NJ and elsewhere in the world. They usually have a pretty decent beer selection, great atmosphere and location, indoor and outdoor seating, and stick to your ribs comfort/pub food. The last time I visited prior to our most recent visit, I noticed that they don’t offer any vegetarian dishes at all. Not a single one. The open-minded and agreeable vegetarian like myself can usually figure out to ask for something«without chicken» or similar. Or have pizza or nachos. This was about 3 years ago. We visited Old Forge two weeks ago, and we HAD to go visit our family favorite, Slickers. We arrive and– the menu honestly hasn’t changed at all in 10 years. I’m not trying to tell anyone how to run their business, obviously you all are doing something that works great! But– is it really that hard to keep a $ 4-$ 8 box of veggie burgers in the back of your freezer so that on the off chance someone orders it you can charge them $ 10? I mean, you sell a single veggie burger dinner and it’ll pay for the whole box that you could buy at any grocery store. I keep my own veggie burgers in the freezer! My dad ended up leaving with me and we got dinner elsewhere because Slickers was just frustratingly and stubbornly unaccomodating. In a changing world where many people would gladly pay for such a simple option… why won’t you just let them?

Pretty darn good. We had the pizza and wings. Great wings! Pizza was decent but not the best I have had. We would have liked to sit outside but it was too busy. I would stop here again if in the area.

Great place for a causal meal, friendly servers and pleasant views from the main dinning room. I had the tuna sandwich which was generous potion and cooked just right. The French dip sandwich is also a fair portion with lots of cheese, I would hold off on the cheese if you want to really taste the roast beef flavor. Many beers to select from we enjoyed Blue Moon with our selections. This is our go to diner when we are on the go in Old Forge.

The food here was great! My family and I went here for a dinner after a day at the water park and everything was phenomenal! Nachos for an appetizer(huge portion!) two kids meals, two french dips, and a bacon cheese burger, with out exception, awesome food! If I had to give any critique, it would only be that I ordered my burger medium rare and it was well done. Despite that it still tasted amazing!

Was ok, food was good. Wings were tasty, was not happy with the tall, big gummy toothed bartender. She was a very angry person and very disrespectful to my wife who had a issue with her sandwich. She should not be in the front of the house.

After a day on the motorcycles, we stopped here for dinner. The food was good(I have the French dip and it was fantastic, my son had coconut shrimp and really liked it, my daughter have the burger and devoured it, and my husband had a bacon cheese burger which they were kind enough to customize with blue cheese). It’s clearly a popular place and we were not disappointed.

We went for lunch. Great Burger and fries, very hearty and good french dip sandwich. Good selection of beers. Excellent, friendly service courtesy of Mariah. Comfortable pub /tavern setting. Light and open. Nice small patio. Pool Table inside is fun too.

After a long ride on the Adirondack railroad, my friend recommended that we eat at Slickers before we had to get back on the train to head back to Utica. I was a bit drawn back since the building was just a converted yellow house made into a tavern but I accepted it and went inside. Well I can say the view from the lake is fantastic if you end up sitting outside on a sunny day, which we were not able to get sadly but because we got a table next to the windows, it was still a lovely sight. As soon as we arrived we were quickly seated by our waitress and we were able to order in just a matter of minutes. I was originally going to get the chicken sandwich but I went with the pizza margarita instead… big mistake! Why was this a bad choice? Well I didn’t look closely enough at the menu which stated the pizza was«14, which meant it was a whole pizza, not individual slices. The whole pizza was about ten slices total and I ended up eating half of it and gave the rest to my friend because while I thought it was great, I couldn’t finish it! It was a tad on the greasy side but it wasn’t under or overcooked and it had great taste which I didn’t expect from a tavern such as this. While the food was great, I initially didn’t like the atmosphere since I wasn’t used to it, but I warmed up to it not to long after we were seated. The downside to all this excitement was the prices. Remember that this is the Adirondack, it ain’t going to be cheap up here under any circumstances so a good bargain is not to be found. Slickers sort of falls into this general area with some of their items but they are a bit below the expensive prices then over establishments in Old Forge. Having experienced a tavern for the first time, I am excited to return to Slickers whenever I visit Old Forge again. The great service and above average food quality are sure enough to bring in new customers or make regulars… such as me!

On an Old Forge Scale, this is more like a 4, but I don’t want to set your expectations too high. It does have an excellent french dip, and balboa sandwich, however the place has smelled like piss(I hope it’s because they use ammonia to clean or something) 30% of the times that I visited while living in Old Forge. It’s one of the only places that does more complicated mixed, and frozen drinks. They have live music occasionally, and the service has always been above average to good.

Friday night, live music, great food, and great staff. We got the nachos and they can feed a family. They were so good. Can’t complain about anything here. Second time at Slickers on this trip and we may have to come a few more times. If your in the area park your snowmobile out back and have a drink and some food. Worth the trip…
