The Dolphin Den of Ogunquit Beach

I am a firm believer in doing business with good people. That said these guys are the absolute best. From the moment I arrived to the minute I left, it was «is everything okay» «can we get you anything» «how about your dog, is she okay» BTW, this is the most pet friendly establishment in the game. Our dog is like a child to us, so to go on vacation and have the ability to bring our dog is just the best. I checked in and went to my room, sure enough there was a nice treat for our dog Sadie. They have a fenced in dog walk area behind the property and Ogunquit could be the most pet friendly city in America. They make it so easy to be on vacation which is why we take them right? To be able to relax. And relaxing is what we did. This is my second stay here and I will never stay anywhere else. Great owners, outstanding accommodations and just a great place period. No BS, they make you feel at home.
I forgot the best detail of all, LOCATION. It doesn’t get any better. Park your vehicle and forget about it. Everything you could want and more within a few minutes walk, and this includes the most beautiful beach.

What a great weekend getaway! I cannot say enough nice things about ‘The Den’! From our arrival with 13 year old husky mix Sadie, (dog cookie on the bed, of course), to friendly dinner recommendations, great location, adorably decorated room, and an awesome time with Uncle Rick and crew, I can’t say enough nice things about the Den. A close walk to downtown, the marginal way, yet quiet enough for a good nights sleep, this place has a great location. The room is adorable and just right.
I can’t wait to come back this fall and enjoy some foliage, beach walks, and antique shopping! Thanks Denny Dolphin! ;)

We felt like we hit the jackpot finding a last minute room at the Dolphin Den over Memorial Day weekend. I called to inquire and was provided with superior customer service from the get go. Upon arrival we were greeted getting out of the car and felt at home.
We booked a suite with a queen size bed, a pullout leather couch and a large bathroom. The room was beautifully updated and had décor that made it feel like we were at home. Immaculately clean and taken care of unit.
You are literally a 3 minute walk from this gorgeous view and all of the downtown shops and nightlife. This place is a hidden gem!

A Bed&Breakfast right by Shore Road, a 1 – 2 minute walk from hustle and bustle on Shore Road. It’s a cute home B&B run by Rick and Joe. We did not have the pleasure of meeting Joe during our short weekend stay, but Rick was so sweet and accommodating. So why the meager 3 stars?
My boyfriend paid about $ 200 a night, which I thought was reasonable considering The Dolphin Den is smack in the center of Ogunquit’s mecca of night life, dining, and tourist shops. (Rick did say that their prices go down significantly once lobster season is over) However, once Rick showed us the «suite» that we would be residing in for the next couple of days, my boyfriend and I were a little bit turned off at how deceiving their website photos were.
First of all, it’s not a suite. A suite would signify «luxurious pent house» room, but what we got was a damn shack with ceilings barely high enough to fit my 6 feet tall boyfriend. The ceilings were AT MOST 7 feet from the ground. Also, our shack wasn’t even part of their home. It was a little garage turned into a live-​able, profit-​making space that they can charge $ 200 a night for. My boyfriend’s knees almost touched the wall when sitting on the bathroom toilet, and their bathroom stall made me feel a bit claustrophobic.
Secondly, you have a whopping 150 square feet to yourself and whoever you booked the B&B with. It’s a tiny tiny tiny tiny space for ANY ONE PERSON. 150 square feet is very small, considering that a little Manhattan studios start off at about 200 square feet, for those of you who share the same line of perspective as I do.
Thirdly, their flat screen television was at most a 15 inch screen that they placed on top of a very low dresser by the foot of the bed. It is extremely uncomfortable to watch television because of the way you would have to cock your neck in order to see the screen.
Their cleaning services did a good job the next morning. So we came back to a clean apartment after a day of eating and frolicking.
I would like to think that a Bed & Breakfast should offer a continental breakfast of some sort, given the name. But they only had instant coffee. I wouldn’t have eaten breakfast at The Dolphin Den, but they should have had a platter of stale bagels or muffins for their residents.
While my boyfriend and I were strolling through Main Street and Shore Road, we saw plenty of bigger and cleaner looking B&B’s and «motels». My boyfriend steered clear of «motels» because of the bad innuendo that it insinuates in the city, but their motels seem very cute and quaint.
I would love to go back to Ogunquit, but rest assured, we would much rather pay a bit more and stay at a more comfortable, homier space than go back to The Dolphin Den.

I agree, the Dolphin Den is very close to beaches and downtown (and Ogunquit is wonderful), however, the rooms are tiny, unclean, and loud. The walls are thin (I could hear everything from the house they live in to my neighbors talking), the décor is kitschy and distracting, and the carpet was out of date and dirty.
Another reason I dislike the Dolphin Den is that the owners (although very friendly), they are sneaky used car salesmen type of people. They will find reasons for you to pay more. They are lazy about cleaning. Think about it before you book here.

The pros:
The guest house was of course clean, quirky and fun. I found the service to be good, friendly and attentive. The establishment is in close proximity of the beach and the downtown area.
The cons:
The guest house was small, low ceiling, mildew smell and not as reasonably priced as one would imagine. Also, for the price point one would have hoped for a small breakfast.
Would I return to this establishment in the future? Not likely.

It doesn’t get better than spending a few nights at The Dolphin Den Guest House and Inn here in Ogunquit. The service is superb! While I was having coffee on the front patio, my room was being cleaned and the bed was made! While it’s called a «Guest House», the owners Rick and Joe made me feel like it was «My House» — friendly, hospitable and downright eager to make my stay the most comfortable.
It’s close to everything: Main (e) Street, restaurants, and beach, yet on a dead end street, so restful at night. I strongly recommend to anyone to spend their vacation nights at The Dolphin Den!!!

The Dolphin Den is a ‘hidden gem’ in Ogunquit. The one drawback is that the rooms are small. The location is perfect — right off Shore Road and Main Street. You can walk to everywhere.
The service is great. The owners will do anything they can to make you happy. They lent us beach chairs and towels so we didn’t have to bring them. The two boys who service the rooms are really nice.
I highly recommend The Dolphin Den.
