Mr. B’s Necessities

I took the candle and the soap classes on the same day and it was $ 50 total. I thought the candle was neat, but it wasn’t anything you can’t simply watch youtube to see the process.
Just buy your favorite oil essentials, mix 2 to 3 scents together and pour it into the soy wax. let it sit overnight and there you go.
For the soap class, we basically watched the process and somewhere along the line we help him stired a little here and there and placed some ingredients into the slow cooker. Again, this is something you can watch on youtube. He basically used this app called bramble berry and it tells you exactly the ratios you would need for the soap you’re thinking about making. You can also tweet it and the ratio will change base on if you want more certain ingredients. It breaks down into how much Lye (NaOH) and water ratios you will need. At the end of the class, he lets us pick out one soap from his store to take it home. I can’t imagine that one soap and this particularly class is truly worth $ 25. And some paid $ 35.
I think it’s cool for someone who isn’t crafty and maybe you want to see the process. But if you’re someone who’s crafty. You can simply watch on Youtube and make your own candle and Soap without any problem.

Shem is awesome! I’ve done two candle making classes at Mr. B’s and I can’t wait to come in for a soap making class! He’s a great teacher and makes the classes super fun!

Had a beautiful time making candles today with my coworkers. Got to meet Mr. B himself (his son). It was a fun and educating class. Hoping to make some soaps pretty soon. It’s a beautiful place to be, nice relaxing environment. Nothing but great things to say. Definitely coming back with family and friends. Thank you again

This space is like a little mini esty co op. Mr. B’s share the space with two other vendors. One sells air plants and ways to to sell them and the other bags, jewelry and even has a section to stamp your own leather tags.
Mr. B’s body products and candles in particular are quickly becoming my go to gift when I don’t know what to get. They are beautiful, smell amazing and natural. Who wouldn’t love something so special? I also especially love putting my money back into local companies and if it can go into Oceanside’s tax base in particular I feel like I can give myself another little pat on my back.
Last night a friend organized a candle making class at the shop after a girl’s dinner down the street. We showed up, some already thoroughly having a good time and Shem took our jokes and silliness in stride and even allowed us to bring treats inside for the occasion. He is very calm and easy going and quickly everyone was distracted with the process of scent blending. I love that he gave us the opportunity to find a scent that we really loved and also gave us tips and help while still respecting our scent choices even if we wanted to break the basic scent rules (ahem, guilty).
He let us use his machines and equipment, gave us the websites to buy all the products if we want to do this ourselves at home and even told us what is in his current candles! I picked up myself a bar of charcoal soap while I was there and o may just have to get some of that rose toner when I go back to get my finished candle. It just smells so heavenly.

Visited the store for the first time yesterday to attend the soy candle making class with a group of friends. I absolutely love the minimalistic interior design with natural elements such as wood tables and air plants and succulents. The store has three sections. one for handbags and accessories, another one for home décor elements involving plants and the candle making workshop and natural skin care products. I love local small businesses especially with an all natural and health mindset. The store is a great addition to this up and coming area in Oceanside that has recently added a lot of fun and hip new restaurants.
We really enjoyed the candle making class. Great instructions and a lot of different natural scents to choose from. Love that they sell natural deodorant.
I will definitely be back to buy gifts for friends. Everything is made in San Diego.

Love love love the candles and I have recently started on the deodorant. My favorite candle is the lavender. This is just a neat shop. I hear they have classes and I am looking forward to checking it out!

Fantastic boutique, soap, candle shop. Mr. B’s Necessities have recently moved from Del Mar to Oceanside on South Coast 101. Today some friends and I took a soap making class. Shem, the owner and instructor, lead us in some soap making. We made two batches in this hands-​on class. Shem provided directions and a list of sources for the soap making ingredients. He was super chill through his demonstration and allowed us to add ingredients and stir the pot. I really appreciated the clear instructions and the openness to answer questions. I feel ready to make my own soap with one of my friends. I have taken other soap making classes, although they were good the process was much more difficult and scary following their methods. Shem took away any fear, confusion, and doubt for me.
The store is really awesome looking. There are beautiful succulents, plants, and cacti placed in various areas of the boutique. On one table there are do-​it-​yourself leather stamping. In another area bags, wraps for planter pots, and leather goods. Not to mention their cool wall of soaps, candles, and airplants in great wooden boxes and wall planters. Mr. B’s offers beautifully handcrafted rings and other jewelry.
I look forward to going there soon and hope that you will take a peek inside.

I recently went to Mr. B’s with a group of friends for his candle making class. We had a great time! Shem was a wonderful host; it was a fun, relaxing environment and we enjoyed trying the different scents to make our custom candles.
They have a retail area with bath & body products; great gifts for holidays or treats for yourself. The space is shared with a leather goods designer and clothing line. Gorgeous items that will bring me back to shop!
The store is on a cute, eclectic block of South Oceanside with several artistic retail shops. After the workshop, we explored the retail stores surrounding Mr. B’s; it’s a really cute section of South Coast Hwy and all of the shop owners were friendly and helpful.
I love that their products are natural and safe for my skin; I’m looking forward to going back for the soap making class.
