Sunset Island Condominium Association

We spent a week in a Sunset Island Townhouse with 6 adults and 2 children.
THE TOWNHOUSE: there are 4 floors, so be prepared to climb ALOT of stairs. The first floor was the entry way, with a laundry room, full bath and smallish bedroom (full size pull out). The second floor is the main living area. This had a nice TV room, big kitchen with island, a smaller hang-​out space next to the kitchen and a nice deck. For eating and hanging out, this space was perfect. No issues with any appliances or cleanliness. The next floor had 3 bedrooms and a full bath. One master suite with it’s own full bath (soaking tub!), a queen size bed, and a bunk bed with one full /​one twin. The top floor had another queen bed with private balcony and full bath. Beds were very comfortable, rooms were clean and roomy!
THE GROUNDS: We were on a street right near the fountains. Kids loved that! We rode bikes around the association quite a bit and found the grounds to be clean and lovely. Lots of nice flowers and landscaping. There are 2 nice coves in the bay that are perfect for small children.
FACILITY: We spent most of our time at the bay beach near the pool, as our town home was within a block. The beach was clean, but crowded. The water was very refreshing. We rented a kayak one afternoon for 1hr for the kids… they liked it, and I didn’t think it was very expensive. We also had lunch by the pool one day — kids meals. Didn’t think they were expensive, but many of the «regular» entrees did seem a bit much. I was surprised at the 6 pool pass limit as well, but this never presented a problem. We went in the bay side, and were rarely checked.
Overall, I thought the check in was easy, the security and other employees nice. Would definitely stay here again.

We just completed our stay at Sunset Island and really enjoyed ourselves.
We rented a townhome that sleeps 12. We were 9, including a one-​year-​old, and the house was very roomy. Loved the living space — huge kitchen, dining area, living room. The 4 bathrooms were very clean, but the kitchen area could have been better. Specifically, the oven needed a good cleaning and there was an ant problem near the sink. When we discovered a few more in the pantry closet, we threw out any open boxes and put everything else in the fridge for the remainder of our stay.
We had breakfast in every day, and the size of the kitchen/​dining area made that easier than in previous places we’ve stayed.
We purchased the linen package (sheets and towels) for $ 180 — well worth it. (That was included in the $ 4,000 total but was optional — if your bring your own, your total would be less.) Our unit included one king-​size bedroom, two queen-​size bedrooms, one bedroom with a full/​twin bunk combo, and one bedroom with a trundle bed (two twin size beds). There was also a queen-​size pullout in the living room. So if the cost is split between 4 people (as we did), it is actually quite affordable.
The pool/​clubhouse is outstanding. Pool opens at 10 a.m. — be sure to get there early as most days, there were no unoccupied lounge chairs after 11:30 or so. The pool is huge and well maintained, and my daughter loved the small beach right beyond the pool on the bay. Some days she didn’t feel like dragging the kids and beach paraphernalia to the ocean beach across Coastal Highway. The wait staff who distributed menus and brought lunch and drinks were very accommodating, and the prices were reasonable for very well-​prepared food. (We recommend the nachos with guac and homemade salsa, the buffalo chicken wrap, and the crabcakes.) The chicken wrap was $ 12, but enough to share, especially if you plan an early dinner, which we always did because of the baby.
As a previous poster mentioned, we only received 6 pool passes, even though the unit sleeps 12. We had to purchase 2 additional passes at $ 70 each (children under 3 don’t need one). I think for the price we paid (around $ 4,000 for the week), we should have been given more passes. It should also be noted that children under 3 are NOT allowed in the adult pool, even if held by a parent. There is an adjacent kiddie pool.
The outside property is meticulously maintained. Groundskeepers were always in evidence doing cleaning and landscaping chores.
We rented through Shoreline Properties and our specified check-​in was 3 p.m. However, we got there at 2 and were given the keys an hour early. Very appreciated.
This would have been a 5-​star review without the additional pool pass charge and the ants!

gorgeous views, great service, folks that work here are wonderful too! i highly recommend it as a place to stay if you are looking!
important things to remember — you can’t check in before 4 and you have to check out at 10am — which means you give them your parking permit and your pool pass… so basically you lost the first and last days of activity… not to much fun :(
we also ran into an over zealous card checker at the pool who stopped my 65 year old mother and told her she had to limp around to the other entrance vs cutting through the pool and effectively cutting of a long walk for her. same worker told a mother of a young toddler that she had to walk around to use the bathroom instead of letting her cut through — when the mother said ‘um she might not make it’ the worker didn’t look concerned. guess she doesn’t have kids — or maybe concern for them. i think they need to use better judgement when making assessments of who can and can’t use the bathroom — especially when my mother than the lady were both holding pool cards!
what i liked — beach and the condition of the pool was great.

Nice place on the bay within walking distance of the beach. My family and I are staying here for a week and we love the «suburbia» feel to it, we feel right at home! I love the pool and fitness center within the resort, and there’s even a small market for emergency items. Just outside the complex is a shopping center that includes a Sweet Frog, a liquor store, a Sunsations, and a Ron Jon’s Surf Shop which is nice. Our house could be a little cleaner, and not all of the appliances work but for the most part we’re very happy here. There’s a lot of space here for a lot of people. I think we have about 15 people even though you’re only supposed to fit 12, but we still have plenty of room. Definitely worth the price, especially when there’s a large group that can all contribute money.
