WaterSprout is a design build landscape firm specializing in graywater and rainwater catchment systems. As leaders in innovative, site-​specific water systems, WaterSprout has designed and installed several ground-​breaking projects, including the first permitted graywater system in Berkeley and the first permitted rainwater system to supply toilets and laundry in San Leandro, California.

All WaterSprout systems earn credits towards LEED certification.

John R.

Business Owner

John Russell graduated from University of California at Davis with a degree in Evolution & Ecology. He worked for several landscaping firms in the Bay Area, where he gained extensive hands on knowledge of our local plant ecologies, before continuing his education at San Francisco Institute of Architecture where he earned a Masters Degree in Ecological Design. In 2006, John founded WaterSprout, a design/​build landscaping company focusing on rainwater and graywater systems. Since then, John has become a pioneer in the field of innovative water systems.

* Designed and built the first permitted rainwater catchment system for toilet and laundry use in the Bay Area.

* Designed the first rainwater catchment system to be permitted under San Francisco’s new rainwater guidelines.

* Designed and built the first constructed wetland system permitted for residential use in the state of California.

* Designed and built the first permitted graywater system in Alameda County.
