Vista Madera Feed and Tack

Very professional. I had some questions about saddles, blankets and general tack. The owner was so pleasant to deal with and very accommodating. I had been calling around other tack shops pricing blankets out and she was at least $ 20– $ 40.00 less expensive. I will definitely give Madera our future business. :)

I like this store because it offers a lot but it is a bit overwhelming (feels like a start of hoarder tendencies) with too many things it is hard to see what is available. I do like the selection that is there but I feel like the shop would do better without the small odds and ends and stick to the basics. (for example: I’m guessing horse earrings and coloring books take up more space then being sold)
There have been a few times when I have shown up past opening and the owner has not been there. I also wish they were open on Sundays.

After a long hiatus (like, over 10 years long), I’m finally taking riding lessons again. As such, I needed to pick up some basics: paddock boots, half chaps, riding tights (cuz it’s hot), and a helmet. Like a smarty-​pants, I ended up at her store about 20 minutes before my ride time and was freaking because I thought I’d be late. Not to fear though, Kathy is AMAZING. Not only did she remember my shoe size from when I spoke with her on the phone, she pulled everything I needed, unpackaged them and rung me up while I changed in the fitting room. I got out of there with about 10 minutes to spare. It also helps that the shop is only 5 minutes away from Redwood Ranch. I plan on going back this Saturday but earlier so I can have time to look at all she has to offer in that small-​ish shop. By the looks of it, you wouldn’t think she’d have that great of a selection, but you’d be quite wrong. And the prices are beyond reasonable. Kathy didn’t try to up-​sell me on anything, which is something you might expect where horsey stuff is concerned. So stop by and spend some of your hard-​earned dough in this locally grown tack shop, you won’t be disapointed.

I remember Kathy Dunne and her family back when I took lessons at Vista Madera stables and got my first horse when I was 12.
Many, many years later (shhhhhh) I decided to get back into riding at Skyline Ranch and could not be more pleased to have found Kathy again. Riding is expensive and if I am going to give my hard earned dollars to anyone, I usually like giving them to good people and Kathy is a gem. Plus, I love, love, love supporting local Oakland businesses.

I have been going to Vista Madera for about 15 years now. I usually end up going here for last min items that I forgot to get before a show. Kathy the owner is very helpful when you need to find things, and will even special order items and call you when they come in! She helped me fit many helmets and found me the perfect one! Will definitely keep going back.

This store has almost everything you could possibly want or need for your horse — amazing! Also, Kathy delivers grain bags directly to my barn for free, so I am extra thrilled!

Been going to this tack shop (including their former location) since I was a little kid! They’ve got all your daily equestrian needs with a budget-​friendly price tag. They’ve got grooming products, sprays, ointments, apparel, saddles, bridles, grains, helmets, home decorations, jewelry and much more! They have more English stuff than Western, I believe.
Kathy is the nicest shop owner ever — she always greets you with a smile and warm welcoming.
If I HAD TO complain about one thing, it would be the location… but hey that never kept me from going in!

Soo Excited that I found this little gem today! I board at Skyline Ranch and wasn’t sure how far I would have to go to find general tack and supplies for my horse. This little store is on the way to the barn, just off the freeway and about 1 minute down MacArthur. There is a wonderful selection of clothes and everything you could imagine. There is also a great consignment section and a lot of items were reduced! I can see i might be spending a lot of money here: d

The best in the Oakland area!

Yes, there is a tack store in Oakland. This place is an absolute jewel in the heart of the Laurel District. I did not inherit the shopping gene – my sister got my share – but I can spend hours in this place just looking. It’s absolutely crammed with goodies.
I have a pony, and I could buy my pony stuff online since Kathy doesn’t stock many pony-​sized items, but she will order whatever I desire and it’s such fun to go into the store and look at all the amazing stuff. Maybe I should just have my paycheck made out to her and be done with it.
Kathy Dunne is the owner and she is beyond generous in her support of the local equestrian community. If you need something for your horse or your dog, this is the place to go.

As owner of Redwood Ranch in the Oakland Hills, Vista Madera is a lifesaver for us. Kathy, the owner, is very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. I remember doing business with her Mom as a young kid. Support this business. It is a real gem.

I love this place — the lady who owns it is extremely friendly and patient with my questions. As a new horse owner I have lots of those! The store is small but manages to pack in a good inventory of products. Having a real feed and tack store in this urban midst is a blessing.

Just visited this place for the first time. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of english tack and gear. I went looking for leather conditioner and a fairly specific saddle pad — got the conditioner, but they didn’t have the pad I needed (which doesn’t surprise me since I’ve had a hard time finding it.) I think this is also the closest tack store to the city, which is nice.
With tack stores fast disappearing, it’s nice to still have one or two nearby with a decent selection.

Okay I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE shopping here. I have gotten a good chunk of my horse gear from this place. They are always friendly, Kathy, the manager, is also friendly, and I always get what I need.

Support this shop! The horses in the Oakland Hills would be lost without it!
