Tatum’s Carpet Cleaning

Tatum’s just saved my bacon. They are the best!
I’m moving into a new place and the last tenant left it in a terrible condition. The house cleaners spent 8-​person hours to clean the walls and counters and vacuum, and Tatum’s was set to finish it off by cleaning the carpets.
There were big round stains and the tan carpet had basically turned shades of dark grey anywhere the furniture wasn’t. The person had used some kind of 4″ vinyl tape to tape down wires, and there were big black strips from where the tape had been and the adhesive was left behind.
I had resigned myself to the carpet being gray — I just wanted it sanitized because it smelled horrible (from their cat? From whatever the stains were?). The previous person had admitted that in 8 years there she had never cleaned the carpet. It looked like she barely vacuumed either.
Tatum’s did a great job of keeping in touch — they called over an hour in advance to say they were running late, and while it was no problem for them to arrive later, I appreciate that they called so I could plan my time. When they got there we talked about the carpet and what they recommended. They seemed confident that they could make a big difference. I raised my eyebrows — proof’s in the pudding!
And about 30 minutes after they started, I peeked in and my jaw dropped. With just one pass of their steaming machine, there was a huge difference in color. One man was spot cleaning the stains while the other was passing over the carpet row by row. it looked like he was finding a new carpet underneath!
After they were done with the first pass, I went to the tape stains, which were still there, and asked if there was anything I could do about them. One of the guys asked if he could take a second to try something. Ten minutes later, no stains! He got that adhesive out like it was never there!
And he showed me that the carpet still had tons of cat hair in it. It was clean by now, but neither the cleaners’ vacuuming nor their steamer had picked it up — rubbing your hand over the carpet now produced a layer of hair on your hand. Ick. And I want people with cat allergies to be able to come over.
They showed me the «buffer»: a big flat round brush they could use to scrub the carpet. I said YES!
And OMG the amount of hair they got.
I thought the price was very reasonable for the amount of work and care they invested. Two people cleaned just 2 rooms and it took almost 2 hours! Before they left they emptied the tank — it had been empty before they started. If you look at their website there’s a video of them emptying the tank to show the dirt they just pulled up. That water is milk chocolate brown. The water from my place was thick with dirt and nearly black. Yes, ick is the correct response.
They told me the cost of each thing they did as they suggested more (inexpensive) options because of the extreme dirt, and I didn’t feel pressured to say yes. Each thing they did was worth it — I could see the effects. The carpet smells great, which changes the smell of the entire place.
They were super nice and friendly. It was easy to work with them and I am so grateful for the job they did. I’d recommend them in a second and will not hesitate to call them again. They do more than carpets — I’ll bet that work is great too.
