History

Established in 1995.

Numerous residential remodels & additions custom to: clients’ needs, aesthetics, site conditions, existing building & neighborhood context. Other work: new residences (including ‘green’ & low income), live-​work remodels, tenant Improvements, restaurant & café renovations, library, meeting room & school facility renovations, feasibility studies & master planning and fire damage & repair documentation.

Awards & publications:

Piedmont Renovation: Exterior façade renovation into a craftsman like home. 2000 Design Award for most outstanding renovation in Piedmont CA.

The Uplands Remodel: Interior remodel in historic home converting old style multiple room kitchen wing into a kitchen & family room with new side entry. In 2004 Received the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association Preservation Award. Published in 2003 in the Contra Costa Times.

Orinda CA Remodel: Interior remodel in Eichler like modern home converting small dark kitchen into an open kitchen & improving seismic performance.

Meet the Business Owner

Susan W.

Business Owner

Originally from New York State, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend UC Berkeley. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, she worked on residential & commercial projects w/​Larry J. Mortimer, AIA in Oakland. Next she worked w/​Fong & Chan Architects in San Francisco, working on, among other projects, the Gates Computer Science Building at Stanford University.

At Oikos, Susan continues to apply her experience & knowledge of architecture to residential, live-​work & commercial projects. She approaches all aspects of a project w/​the same talent & enthusiasm, from field measuring to code research, from design & construction documentation to construction observation & contract administration. She is dependable & a problem solver, & has many successful projects & satisfied clients to attest to this.

Susan is a strong proponent of environmental causes. She is also a fourth degree black belt in the Korean Traditional martial art of Kuk Sool Won.
