George V Arth & Son

I’ve had two opportunities to have repair work done at this business and have been extremely happy with their service. Not only do they do great work, but they are fast compared to other auto body shops and their staff communicates the time frame and any changes immediately. If I can help it, I’ll never go anywhere else.

I was a victim of a hit and run, I called AAA and they recommended me here. This place is absolutely wonderful to work with. The people here are kind and easy to work with. The whole side of my car was pretty bad, they did a fantastic job finding parts and color matched the paint of my car. They gave my car a clear coat and a washed inside and out. One of the best in the bay hands down.

I was in a minor accident. Someone rear ended me. I own a Honda cross tour and the bumper was damaged. They took excellent care of my car. They were courteous even after I had missed two previous appointments. They were extremely professional. They called, emailed and even texted to keep me updated on the progress of my vehicle. When I came to pick it up, they had washed, vacuumed and dusted the inside of my car! I appreciated their professionalism and was surprised to see the list of 15 items they made sure to check on in my car. That included testing the headlights, and the tail lights and the turn signal as well as inspecting oil level, coolant and washer fluids.
They did a great job!

AWESOME! Professional staff that has your best interest as priority. They will make sure you get the best service and they will even protect you from sketchy moves by your insurance company. They are always easy to reach, patient with explanations, they move the process swiftly and keep you informed. Had a great experience — needed to get the right side mirror replaced. Got a quote for the work in under 15 min — after the part arrived, the service took less than 20 min and my car was ready to go! Very friendly staff and convenient location.

I got into an accident and this shop was recommended by AAA.
They open early (7am) so I was able to stop by before work. They took my car in and called me a couple hours later.
They have a nice shop with friendly employees.
They signed me up for text updates and I got quirky update texts about 4 times while my car was in the shop, it was nice to have an unexpected fun update.
When the car was done, picking up and payment took 5 minutes and I was out the door!
They cleaned my car inside out too!
Overall a GREAT shop. I usually feel cheated by body shops (as a female) but they made me feel comfortable!

Nice, competent staff. Cleanest facility I have seen. Prices are fair but I ended up choosing another business to have my car fixed because my auto insurance was paying for it.

Amazing service. Brought my daughter’s car there for some repairs. Brian kept me informed on the progress of her car and got it done in a short amount of time. They did a great job on the body work. I highly recommend this shop for any body repair work.

George V Arth and Son is amazing! I had a minor fender bender a couple of months ago just a month before turning in my lease. I was able to get a quality job for a fraction of the price quoted at other auto body garages. They did an incredible job and my car looked great and passed with flying colors. I recently went there to buff out a few scratches on my new car and they did it gratis. Their customer service is phenomenal. They are a family business and they clearly take pride in customer loyalty. I hope I won’t need their services in the future, but if I do, I’ll definitely go back!

I took my Lexus in to repair a scraped front bumper and fender due to a parking mishap on my part. Everyone I dealt with at Arth & Son was friendly, courteous and helpful. They told me what needed to be done and the estimated repair time.
Since they are a preferred shop with AAA, I did not even have to take my car to AAA for their adjustor to examine the damage. Tom the manager at Arth & Son took photos of the damage and emailed them to AAA. I was therefore able to file a claim over the phone and saved much time from my work schedule.
In addition to giving me an estimated repair time when I dropped off the car, Arth & Son kept me informed via email during the repair process, which turned out to be one day ahead of schedule.
When I picked up the car today, Brian went over what they have done to make sure I was satisfied. The car looks fantastic and I told him they have a long time customer in me.
As a small business owner myself, I value businesses with high ethics, good customer service and communication, as well as superior workmanship. I am pleased to find them all at Arth & Son.

The break release handle of my car broke while I was in Oakland, so i went to G.V.A.S I was so please with the the service i got there. Thomas, the person who helped, was amazing. He unlocked the break right way (i could not do it since the release handle was broken!).
Thomas did a estimation to fix the break release handle and then they took care of the problem.
Bottom line — It is a great place to go. They are honest and very competent in what they do.

I was recently rear-​ended by another vehicle and had the rear bumper and trunk lid repaired. I can honestly say the customer service at this shop is nothing less than outstanding! They have a long history as an Oakland auto body shop and they have kept the old school idea of taking care of the customer… something that is hard to find these days. Oh, and the work was done correctly and on-​time. Obviously, I don’t want to get hit again, but if I do, I’ll be going back to George V Arth & Son.

I had a bummer Saturday a couple weeks ago when I broke the right-​hand side mirror on my still relatively new Mazda 3. I took it to George Arth & Sons based on 1) strong Unilocal reviews and 2) the fact that I live close by.
Good service, great communication, fast work, and what seemed like a fair price. (Just under $ 300 with parts & labor, of course all mirrors are different so YMMV.) I only had one experience (and hope to not see them again for a while!) but this place absolutely lives up to the 5-​star reviews. When my auto starts aging and needs more love, I predict I will be back.

I went to George V Arth many years ago and had a positive experience. Recently, my 10 year old Lexus SUV passenger door began rubbing against the front fender and wouldn’t open properly or fully. I took it to G V Arth and 1) they tried to quick fix it while I waited but couldn’t, 2) quoted me a price to eliminate the problem without replacing any parts, indicating it would take no more then 3 hours and 3) fixed it as suggested, in less then 3 hours. It works fine and looks fine.
FYI, after their initial estimate and suggested method of repair, I stopped on my way home at Oakland Auto Body (around the corner from GV Arth and after looking at it for around 30 seconds, called Lexus, then quoted me $ 650 to replace the panel and $ 200+ to paint it… after I told them it was a 10 year old car and that I didn’t have insurance.
Bottom line — go to George V Arth! Nice, fair, honest and they do good work.

Today was my second awesome and wonderful experience with Geo. v. Arth & Sons. They are always so kind and polite and respectful – and helpful!
This time, someone backed into the right rear panel of my new Honda, resulting in what can best be described as a «popped seam.» I showed up early by mistake, and even though they weren’t really open yet, a gentleman whom I assume was Mr. Arth took one look at it and popped it back together by hitting it with his fist! (A friend who «knows» cars had told me they would have to replace the entire panel — Ha!) Mr. Arth even showed me how to do it myself if it happens again, explained how the bumper system works and is connected, and what the price range would be if I ever actually had to have the panel replaced. Wow! Then, he refused to take a tip or anything! A total class act.
This is the same place that a couple of years ago fixed the rear-​end damage on my Ford– for under $ 500, when others were telling me it would be around $ 1,600, did it in one day and washed the car! They work for a lot of insurance companies so their rates are very reasonable if you have to pay for it yourself.
I cannot recommend Arth & Sons enough!

I brought my car into George V Arth today to fix a door handle on my car. I was really nervous that it was going to be an expensive repair since I have a newer Jetta. This time I was helped by Brian who is the son-​in-​law. They are so organized and efficient with everything they do and the estimate only came to $ 78! I could not be happier and will continue to come here for any body work that I need done. Highly recommend this shop!

George V Arth is a class act. My husband and I have been taking our cars there for many years. It’s not like we’re bad drivers. Hey — we live in Oakland — stuff happens, what can I say? Every single person who works there is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and just all around good people. Tom is the service manager and amazing. He never forgets your name! Ron, Brian and the office manager, Rene are all fantastic. One of our cars was stolen from in front of our house a couple of years ago and required some extensive repairs. They’ve fixed many fender-​benders and worse for us. They’re honest, flexible and so easy to work with and invariably have your car back even earlier than they expect. They’re great at giving you an estimate and then working with you if it’s beyond your means. Nobody should ever go anyplace else for body work for their car!

, you know that I take her in for all of her regular check ups and generally personify her to the point that people sometimes look at me strangely. However, though I have a lot of love to give to her, I have no idea how to fix her…
I consider myself a better than average driver. I’m no NASCAR driver, but I’m super safe and law abiding… other than the occasional double yellow U-​turn (oh common, you know you do it too…) I feel that I’m constantly battling the «bad Asian girl driver» stereotype. No joke – I actively get peeved when someone is driving stupidly and I look over and see it’s an Asian girl. So given my over sensitivity to this negative perception, I naturally was a bit self conscious going into an auto body shop – just because it happened to be an unseasonably bad day for wandering poles.
Never fear! George V Arth & Son took great care of me and my baby with absolutely no funny looks or uncomfortableness. Gabriella has a very hot butt (see, you are looking at me strangely) and the cracked light and dent in her left rear was simply sacrilegious. I came in Monday to get a quote and immediately was impressed with the professionalism and honesty. The techy in me loved the iPad pictures and software they used to store information about my issue. The auditor in me loves good documentation! I was told that if I was going to get other quotes to make sure they told me about the underlying safety related parts of the bumper that might be damaged and did not just slap a new bumper on to have a lower quote. I was also give a very thorough break down of my options. It was explained that the cost of trying to remove the dent from the existing bumper would be very close the price of replacing it – without guaranteed good results. I was told that they could get a refurbished bumper and reduce the overall cost a bit. They even told me that if I called around, I would find their labor charges very competitive. Overall, service was top notch, cream of the crop, excellent!
So against all haggling skills my Asian mother taught me, I went with my Caucasian father’s attitude which is «Sounds good to me.» I left Gabriella on Monday, she was ready by Wednesday afternoon. I got a late morning call from the office saying that she would be ready at 3:30pm and were open until 5:00pm. Due to work, I had to pick it up the next day (they conveniently open at 7:00am and are 2 short blocks from BART – for us early commuters.) When I got her back, she was so sparkly and new! Gabriella’s butt was lookin’ real nice and there was a twinkle in her light. She was totally cleaned and rearin’ to go. George V Arth & Son even tapped out an additional dent under the bumper for free! Amazeballs!
If you are looking to price things (which I always find helpful because I’m clueless about a starting point for these things), Gabriella’s new tail light, new bumper, paint, labor and sales tax was exactly the originally quoted $ 1087 buckaroos. (ouch right?) Yeah I could have gone through my insurance but a $ 500 deductible later, I figured it was worth it to just put off buying my second Louis Vuitton bag another year *le sigh… first world problems*.
So in a nutshell – If I trust George V Arth & Son with Gabriella, I trust them for any work you have for them to do on your car. However, I will [hopefully] not ever be going there again *knocks on wood, crosses fingers, buys a rabbits foot, and drives off in Gabriella to find a leprechaun*

My mom was a victim of a hit and run accident and she wasn’t able to get the plates off the guy that backed into her. Unfortunately, we didn’t have collision insurance either, so everything was going to come out of our own pockets :(. Because my parents didn’t speak English, my dad insisted that we drive around Oakland Chinatown to look for a Chinese-​owned auto shop that would get the job done for a cheap price. Little did we know, most of them tried to rip us off, so I took out my phone and Unilocaled body shops around me. This was the closest one to Chinatown so we went right in. We were surprised to see so many workers in a body shop, I think this was the biggest little body shop we’ve ever been to.
We were greeted by Ron once we got out of our car. I told him what happened and that we didn’t have collision insurance and he understood. He wrote up a very quick estimate and because we’re Chinese, we had to continue shopping around of course, even though this was the lowest price already. After going to one more shop in Oakland, I gave Ron a call and asked if we could bring our own parts, he agreed so I went and bought every part that he listed on the estimate. We dropped our pickup truck off around 4pm and went home.
The next morning, around 8:30am, Ron calls me and says he needs some more parts, he gives me the part numbers and I went and got my parts and brought it to him within 1 hour. ***In case you were wondering where I’m getting my parts from, I got them from National Auto Parts in Oakland on Coliseum Way, the prices there are lower than even online prices. For example, the front bumper was about $ 100 online and only $ 33 there!.***
Around 12 noon, I got a call from Rene and was told that my repairs were done! So I went right back and took a look at everything. It appears I got a free car wash too: D. The price was exactly what he quoted us for the labor, no extras. Upon leaving, my dad asked Ron for a small plastic part that connected the windshield wiper fluid tubes that was broken and he gladly found one for us.
Would definitely come back again because they did a good job, for the right price and did it fast even though they were very busy.

Update 6÷7÷13
Our pickup truck that got fixed was making some noise when it was in drive and I stepped on the brakes. Took it in around noon, told Ron about it, he tested it and it turns out our hood was loose. All that was needed to fix it was to readjust the rubber stoppers and a little foam between the hood and the hood frame. Everything was fixed under 5mins!

Pulled up late morning, was greeted, I asked for a quote to paint my front bumper, they scanned my cars door code/​s for paint info with an iphone/​app, we walked back into the office, I let them know that I would be paying out of pocket, and this was not an insurance claim, they quoted me a good deal almost instantaneous to walking back into their office, the quote was much less than the other 2 body shops I had estimates from, I added some very minor molding and trim fixes that just needed new clips to keep them from rattling.
Car was in next morning and ready on time the following afternoon, the out the door price was exactly as quoted, no up charge, no surprises, no bs.
Paint job looked great too.
These guys seem to do quality work, and be both fair and honest.
