My name is Maya, and I am the proud owner of Faso Braidy. My story starts from a far away African country called Burkina Faso, meaning the country of the upright Man. I always specify «Burkina Faso, the country of the upright man and woman». That is why I have dubbed my hair salon Faso Braidy. I have been braiding in Oakland for over 12 years (as of 2014). I initially braided for other salon owners when I first moved to Oakland, then I opened my own hair salon on Telegraph Avenue, Oakland. I have now relocated Uptown @ 1717 Webster St, Oakland.

Hi! My name is Maya, and I am real African Queen. Alright, not really; but aren’t we all queens and princesses! I am originally from Burkina Faso, meaning the country of the upright Man. That is why I have named my hair salon Faso Braidy.

I have been up close and personal with other people hair for over 4 decades now. I have braided hair in Burkina Faso and Ivoiry Coast, as well as across the US from Harlem to Oakland. Hair is my passion and braiding is my specialty and business; I sent my kids through college doing this, so I take it very seriously :)! I love touching, «playing» with hair, and creating old and new hair styles for my customers. What I enjoy most in my job, is the expression on customers faces when they finally see a style taking shape. Inside of me, I almost always shout «I told you so :)!».
