Canine Comforts

This place is pretty small but has a great collection of food, treats, and toys. More importantly, Michael, the owner, is possibly the most positive person I’ve ever encountered. He is kind, enthusiastic, and genuinely wants to help customers find exactly what they need for their pets. He even taught my fiancé how to trim our small dog’s nails. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Michael (the owner) is always so friendly and offers so many treats to my little corgi pup whenever she comes in with me. (: He even offered to do her nails for me once when he noticed her nails getting a bit long.
I love that he does thorough research for any product he considers bringing into the store and will only stock the best of things. (His baseline is if he’ll give them to his three pets, then he’d have it.)
My pup is usually not very food motivated, but he was quick to recommend me blends for her to try and she is now more happy with her food! Additionally, his prices are so so reasonable! I actually spent more money on my bag of Orijen Puppy food on Amazon than if I had known to buy the same exact thing for $ 30 cheaper there!
My only complaint with Canine comforts is I can’t help but spend way more than I intend to buy with each visit! Theres just so much I want to get for my pup and kitties!

The quality of products in this store are the best and Michael, the owner is amazingly sweet! This place often has events for pets and pet owners and I’m looking forward to attending their Holiday event! This small business supports it’s community by providing free treats to the complex building where I live every time we have an event (and that’s at least once a quarter). I highly recommend this small business/​pet store for you and your furry friend! Go, shop and you’ll see why!

I took my puppy there to get some treats and I was impressed by the great quality products that this store has. Michael was very friendly and welcoming, he gave a treat to my dog and recommended a few dietary supplements. I’ll definitely go back there for any pet needs.

This is the best for your pooch! Walked in because my 15 year old yorkie stopped eating his fresh pet and was clearly hungry but didn’t like any food I offered. Was recommended the Fromm and he wolfed it down — so happy! Such amazing customer service — go here now!

I really want this business to succeed! However, I am concerned about the continuity in terms of stocking products and variable store hours. If indeed I know that my pets’ food is available, I am worried about my ability to actually buy it. Store hours seem to be random. Inventory is random.

The prices are comparable to big chain stores & the atmosphere is layed back, yet welcoming. The owner is very friendly & carries a special kind of food for our elder maltipoo. We have been going here for years and love that they are intentional about the businesses & brands they carry. In a city where it is easy to feel very detached from the source, Canine Comforts allows me to connect to my community and know my dollar is going towards things I believe in.

The best! We love visiting this store with our baby morkie. The owner is a wonderful human being! He does such an excellent job of grooming our little girl too — takes care of every little detail and is always so gentle with her. Also, we come here to buy all sorts of treats and food and accessories. It doesn’t get better than this in terms of service and love!

Love love love this place! They are true animal lovers here! My pup Daisy loves it even more. Can’t walk by here without her wanting to go in.
The owner is super friendly, he clips Daisy’s nails like a pro. She can be difficult, at least for me. But nope, he makes it look so easy.
Lucky for us, we live close by. It’s a small store, but it’s so cute. They love to give treats too, and treat my puppy like a princess.

Canine Comforts is awesome. The owner Mike is super friendly, loves animals and really passionate about his business. We live in the neighborhood and he has been an incredible source of advice and support. Their products are amazing and the store makes you feel so welcomed to browse and shop. Love it!

Great neighborhood shop! I was so excited to see that there was a pet shop near my house in Jack London square. The staff is super friendly and helpful and will try to get whatever you need if they don’t already carry it.
I have a fussy dog that changes her tastes for treats often and is also on a no grain diet and we have not run out of things to try. The monthly get togethers are fun for the pets and people!

Canine Comforts has everything for your pet and the pet owners in the neighborhood. The store is meticulous and the owner Michael is friendly and knowledgeable. His assistant, Louise, is great and super friendly. I call it Canine Comfort Zone, because not only do the animals get their high quality food there, but little wine and cheese events help neighbors to meet each other and express neighborhood concerns regarding our pets.
Michael is a meticulous groomer, prompt and reliable.

At first I might have written the place off as another pet «boutique,» but it’s not. It’s a small store that’s, well, «curated.» In a good way. It’s the kind of place that has what you need because they have two or three of the best possible choices. Picked up a well-​engineered portable water bowl on a hot day, some treats for the dude, and got great service (and attention) from the staff.

The new owner Michael is super awesome! I loved what he’s done to spruce up the place. Same great quality pet food and treats, plus grooming too! Michael takes one dog at a time but the turn around time is fast (about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours). I took my dog there for grooming for the first time a couple of weeks ago. When I picked her up, I noticed that she’s very calm and wasn’t anxious at all like when she usually gets groomed. Michael also takes great care of noting how your dog behaves and carefully treat each dog based on their behavior. He’s very gentle and my dog smells fresh and clean for weeks!
I definitely will come back and use their service again. I highly recommend this place. My friend and I (both dog owners) suggested Michael also provide deep cleaning for teeth without anesthesia, I hope it will happen soon, then it would be really perfect (not that it’s not perfect now, it’ll just be more perfect)!

Took my Yorkies to get groomed last weekend and they look like they just stepped off the assembly line. Even though my boy Yorkie is quite the grump when it comes to baths and trimmings, Michael handled him professionally and gave him the haircut of his life! Just for good measure he made my little princess look like a doll as well, even though I wasn’t even planning on having her groomed. The store is full of so many unique dog and cat products that I have not seen anywhere else. It’s a joy just to go to this cool area of Oakland and to get such great attention for my darlings it was an added bonus.

If there was an option for 6-​stars, this place would be deserving. Please sit back and let me count the ways that this place deserves raving reviews:
1) Convenience. I’m not sure who’s Nobel Peace prize winning idea it was to put a dog store in Jack London Square, but whomever it is, I’m sure they’re somewhere smiling all the way to the bank. Literally every person that stays in the area has a dog, and regardless of whether you want to venture down to this place to pay its convenient store prices, you have probably found yourself with no other option than to stop in here for a can of food, poop bags, or a doggie snack.
2) Customer Service. A couple of weeks ago I purchased some food from this store and it subsequently made my dog sick. In all honesty, this could have been from the food, or really just the fact that my dog has the most sensitive stomach of any man or animal. At any rate, I went down and voiced my concerns to the staff, with no real expectations of them doing anything to reconcile. Well not only did the store attendant apologize profusely, but offered me a refund and another bag of food. I was really blown away by the service that I received.
3) Quality Products. While I realize I just said that there food potentially made my dog sick, the truth is she throws up regardless of what she eats. However, I can say that it has certainly decreased since I began purchasing the food from this store. I wish I could tell you the brand, but all i know is it’s grain free and significantly more expensive that the Alpo my budget can really afford.
Seriously, this is a great store. Please if you have a pet make sure that you check this store out. Additionally, they also offer free pet services and vaccinations on Wednesday.
Oh, and if the owner is reading this, please open up on Mondays!!! I feel like I always end up feeding my dog the last of her food on Sunday night, only to have to wait until Tuesday morning until I can purchase more food.

So nice to have a pet store in the neighborhood that stocks quality products at a relatively affordable price. My little chihuahua can be a picky eater, but she has fallen in love with Fromm’s, the food recommended to us by one of the owners. It is the only food she will reliably eat. We gave her some of their wet food recently after a dental procedure, and it seemed like it was human grade food. Yes, my dog eats healthier than I do. They occasionally have Pet Amigos on Sunday afternoons for vaccinations, heartworm testing, and heartworm/​flea preventatives for sale; very helpful for busy professionals who don’t always have time to make it out tot he vet for these things.
Despite having a chihuahua, I am not into dressing my dog up in clothes (and she’s not into it either). That being said, she does need a sweater in the colder weather, and thanks to Canine Comforts, she can be warm in style without looking like Paris Hilton’s dogs.
Very nice, friendly owners. Convenient. A place we visit on a regular basis.
