I was killing time as my girl was taking her Real Estate test. I was hungry and found this gem. I ordered the Veg. Udon $ 5.40 for lunch wow… broth was clear and really good flavor… the presentation was great. All ingredients were fresh. The place was very clean a great experience… not 5 stars only because the bowl and flatware were plastic. Their sushi look really good… and very good prices. Great value. I would go again.

I Love sushi. Like literally obsessed, and could eat it every single day. This is the closest sushi restaurant to my office and I wish I could be happy about its proximity but almost every time I go I am sorely disappointed. Today’s issue was that my salmon philly roll came with almost no salmon inside but lots of avocado and cream cheese. In the past the fish has not been the freshest but they give me so little today I honestly couldn’t tell. They have improved since they first opened and I hope they will continue to improve because the area needs more good options for sushi.

I came in because I was craving sushi. They had nice selection of options but there was a fly in one of the cases and it smelled very fishy inside.

The short: nice pick-me up if you work nearby. As this is the closest sushi place to work, I decided to stop by and check it out. At peak lunch hour, there is a line that moves very fast. All the prepared sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi and bento boxes are in the glass case, listed with the ingredients and the price. I decided on the unagi bento and a guy brings it to the cashier while the cashier rings it up. There are other items to order that are listed on the wall(udon and soup). Also, there is a dining area with wonderful afternoon light should you choose to eat in. As for the taste of the unagi bento? Meh. The unagi was more slimy and was harder to bite off compared to what I’ve had in the past. The rice was fine, though a bit hardened. The wakame seaweed salad is nice and crunchy, though the flavors and colors seem too artificial. I thought the California roll was mediocre without any consistent, strong flavors. If you are craving Japanese, this will help. If you are craving really good Japanese quality, this won’t cut it.

I was able to get a California Roll and 4 assorted nigiri rolls for $ 8.99. The taste was good enough to kill my sushi craving. I wouldn’t say that it’s a must to try this place, but if you’re in the area for lunch and would like decent sushi on a budget, this is the place to go.

This is one of my favorite places to go for lunch because of the value. The sushi is above average but below gourmet and there is a wide selection of options packaged ready to go. What makes this place deserve five stars is that most meals are under or at the very least near ten dollars. I’m used to sushi being the most expensive option so finding sushi that costs as much or less than a regular meal is nothing short of a miracle.

Seriously folks… I am surprised at all the positive reviews about the food, it seems none of these folks actually know what sushi should taste like — Unilocal, you have once again failed me. The fish definitely tasted off, I hope I don’t get sick. I couldn’t even finish my plate. Location is great, the people are friendly, but come on — you’re a sushi restaurant and you can’t even get the sushi right.

Located in City Center near Popeye’s…this place is great for picking up a quick, light lunch but there’s plenty of seating if you want to dine there. This is the only sushi-to go place since Suruki left awhile ago so its a welcome addition! It’s nice because you get to see what you’re getting as they’re all displayed nicely in the refrigerated display case Review for the CA Roll, spicy tuna, and unagi rolls… ingredients fresh and not at all like the pre-made sushi you get at Safeway. Sushi freshly made close to lunch so its not sitting their for hours where the rice gets hard and avocado turning brown. Convenient, quick, reasonably priced and delicious sushi to go! I’ll definitely come back to try other offerings.

I don’t see this place lasting long! The miso soup was the worst I’ve ever had. And the tuna in the tuna roll did not look fresh. The rolls were mediocre and like one other reviewer said I hope I don’t get food poisoning. Probably should have stayed away in the first place given the looks of the place… not very inviting!

Went here this morning, really nice workers. The place is really clean and the prices are really not of a bad price. They have pre made orders, and they could still make fresh ones too. Definitely recommend this if you’re on a budget, the rolls are pretty good for the price! If you’re on the go, it’ll be easy money to get a box and go :).

This is a perfect spot for lunch if you want to eat something healthy and light. I’m so glad this place is conveniently located in the City Center. Sometimes, you just want to skip Panda Express or Popeye’s… Or all the other food place options that will make you feel extremely sleepy right after lunch. You don’t want that on a busy work day! LOL! Their bentos I think are good if you feel hungry and want more food and more variety. Food is terrific quality and service is fast and easy! Awesome lunch fix!

Guys, this place is a to-go sushi joint. It doesn’t need to be compared to Kirala, just like you wouldn’t compare a mom-n-pop grocery to Whole Foods. It is completely fulfilling in that it satisfies my frequent lunchtime sushi cravings without breaking the bank. It has very reasonable prices for tasty sushi, it is clean, i feel great after eating it, the staff is very nice, they can make orders on the spot for you, and it has decent variety. That’s all I need for a regular lunch spot.

I am very happy with the staff and satisfied with the service. Everyone I have gone there everyone is attentive and make sure that I am happy with my order. They are willing to make any variation I want and the sushi is very good as well. I am glad the City Center finally got a sushi place…

I like this place. It’s quick and decent, with several vegetarian options, gyoza, and udon. Sushi and bento boxes ARE premade, but they will make anything fresh for you, too. It’s pretty bare bones but honestly there are plenty of days where I just want to grab something decent without waiting a long time or paying a lot of money. They have fresh brewed green tea, too.

I was glad to see a sushi place close by work, but my first impression isn’t great. I ordered the nigiri and California roll combo and seaweed salad. I think the prices would be reasonable if the sushi seemed fresher. The fish looked and tasted pretty good, but the rolls had the telltale brown dots of not-so-fresh avocado. The rice was just a little dried out. The California roll flavor was pretty overwhelmingly mayonnaise-y. Upon reflection, it was the most heavily unbalanced California roll towards mayonnaise that I’ve ever had. The seaweed salad was tasty, though. Perhaps another reviewer was right: they could probably keep the case colder. The people who run the place seem nice. Will probably give them another shot.

Time: 11:17am/59°F cloudy Purpose: With my east bay office about 400ft away peering in from outside whether to go or not. When it first open, I met a person had a brief term talk. Eventually he went with another rep, I didn’t feel bad at all. I was just too curious as to how good is it? After reading Victor G’s review, I went. Ambiance: Located in City Center of downtown Oakland it replaces Quizno’s. Inside about 38+ seater with mostly front window counter seating with a couple of actual tables. All furniture are that of left over from previous business are in use. Previous place of set up left untouched soda fountain, counter, menu board, cold fridge all inherited. Only things I didn’t see were the condiment station, otherwise everything stays the same intact, no changes. Staff: Older guy about late 40s could be owner the way he did things tells me so. Anxious to make a sale, stutters when explaining after I ask him about his goods. Relax man, I’m not inspector or any authority to jeopardize your business. Didn’t want to hold him up any further. I ask him about udon bowls. Told me, I can have white or soba at no additional cost. Went ahead with order so we both can get going on our day. Cleanliness: Grade A, impeccable with utensils nicely store and organize. Dining area and counters clean no complaints. No overflow of trash bin was great compare to that of Quizno’s days. Eats/Drinks: Udon bowl with soba noodles $ 4.95, quite a bland bowl. Chicken was listed as one of the ingredients. Didn’t see much may be three small pieces, rest were so small the fork couldn’t catch any of it. When I ask fresh soba? He answer yes then, I saw him opening a package of soba within 10ft of me. Next he open the flavor packet pour in the bowl and douse hot water over it. Garnishing it off with blanched spinach and bamboo shoots. Whole experience was so dam bland even salt and pepper couldn’t save this bowl. Since I was there myself, I went ahead and finish it. Pretty sure with someone with me, they’ll be pissed off. For $ 4.95 I can get in a bowl of ramen and taste twice as good at Sobo. Now, don’t get me wrong, I will still have to try the rolls sometime just to make sure. Main Features: Platters and custom tray orders. Products/Services: Sushi rolls, nigiri/sashimi, vegetable sushi, sides, udon/soup, bento, sushi platters/trays, custom orders, vegetarian friendly. Takes plastic/free delivery with 2 blocks radius. Punch Lines: Modest cost, budget watchers, laid back, calm/quiet, kitschy/plain décor, light bites, occasional spotty service, off putting, nothing out of the ordinary, sleeper, quite bland, not as great go elsewhere, pretentious, itty-bitty. Near by Bart, city hall, federal/state building, bank/ATM, Club One, post office, EDD, hotels, parking garage, B-Shuttle. Tradeoffs: Trader Joe’s sushi section in disguise. Most goods are package and premade ready to go with minimal effort involved. That explains why there’s two worker for the place. Final Thoughts: Most places that I go trays to somewhat hide their trade source. Here they don’t care if you know or not, as long as the register rings cha-ching is all it matters. I have never had a bowl of udon this bland in my lifetime of eating them. I hope they can perhaps step up and make some adjustments before its too late. Today, I felt like I pay for the plastic bowl and lid $ 3 and $ 2 is for the actual ingredients. A place like this is just for you to tie your hunger pangs over. Certainly more than below average here with no thought or care.

Heeeeeeeey!!! Its about time we got somewhere new to eat around here! This place has been here for about a month and is where Quiznos used to be(Never ate at quiznos before). Im a pretty picky sushi eater and love unagi! After getting sick eating sushi in San Francisco(Unagi) I didnt eat sushi for almost a year. I came here thinking they may be so so and I had to try them. This place has some really good sushi especially the unagi rolls. I have eaten here 4 times now in the last week and a half. I have recommended all my coworkers that like sushi give them a try, even tried to get some that dont eat sushi to try it. I will try some other types of sushi here soon and let the people know if its still 4 or 5 star worthy. They will know me by name before the month is over at this sushi spot. Cheers to good food and great sushi!!! And a shout out to the Latin guy making/rolling the sushi!

I contemplated 2 stars but sort of felt bad bc I WANTED to like this place– but it’s just meh. I work nearby so when Quiznos went out I was sad bc it was one of the few super close places I went for my quick lunch. So now this place arrives. Quick take out sushi… Ehhh not sure… but due to the shortage of quick, good food– I tried it. First… It’s sort of awkward bc it’s basically Quiznos inside still… There’s no real character to this place. Food was in glass fridges… Looked ok. I ordered spicy tuna– the gentleman went to the pre made fridge and then said«no more spicy tuna»… Then just looked at me with a blank stare… My response: «ok– can you not make some?» … Like this was a novel idea. He then said–«5 min»… So I waited and ate my seaweed salad. It was in the fridge but it was room temperature. That was a turn off. Then came the sushi. It was ok. Filling bc it was basically all rice and a spicy tuna mix that looked and tasted like basically all Mayo and some tuna. I won’t be back… And if you’re at all a sushi eater– save your money and just bring rice balls from home– sort of the same thing. The only thing that was cool was that it was somewhat cheap– seaweed salad and a tuna roll for 10 $… So I guess I shouldn’t expect much. Hopefully I don’t get food poisoning– otherwise it was just ok. I would rather something good go in that space…

Nice! In the old Quiznos location. All the vege options appear to be vegan too, and $ 7.50 for a bento box isn’t too bad. None of the options are amazing, but there’s really no good vege sushi options downtown until now, so I hope this place will be a hit, since it’s a lot better than going to the neighboring Panda Express or fried chicken place(which had its usual Tuesday long line out the door)
