Established in 2003.

Benjamin moved his practice from Santa Cruz, CA, where in addition to his clinical practice, he was director/​owner of Five Flavors Herbal Pharmacy — an apothecary that catered to a variety of local health care practitioners.

Benjamin Zappin, L. Ac. is excited to be offering his services in San Francisco. Benjamin has been honing his craft as an herbalist and acupuncturist for 15 years now and his enthusiasm for caring for people is only growing.

Ben is an educator as well as a practitioner and believes in the concept of physician as teacher. He focuses on helping the patient understand the roles of lifestyle and diet in the healing process and then meets them with first rate delivery of acupuncture and herbal medicine.

Ben has helped me recover from many ailments with his skills as an herbalist as
well as his healing touch. His acupunctuncture skills are at the top of the chain as
I have seen at least six over a 20 year span and so I mean it when I say that Ben
is Uno, great guy. Warm and easy to talk to withg a lot of laughter on the
acupuncture table.

I went to Ben originally to deal with persistant migraines. In a short time through acupuncture, herbs and teaching me basic relaxing and life style techniques to help reduce stress, I went from one migraine a month to one a year. He instituted a wellness plan and after a series of visits, and daily herbs, I was migraine free. His work was so effective I have since used him for various other issues. I would highly recommend Ben to anyone looking for a holistic approach to wellness.

I found out about Benjamin via a Daily Deal website. I had always been curious about acupuncture and alternative medicine, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to give it a try. I had a great experience from beginning to end, and walked away feeling great. I’ll come back if I have an acute injury or illness to address, but probably not for ongoing wellness, like I would with a chiropractor or massage therapist.

While I think that he intends to do good work. I am now in a far worse state than when I arrived at his clinic. First, in our consultation he reassured me that he would be present throughout my session. He wasn’t, as he was working on myself and a woman in another room simultaneously. Which is probably what caused the real problem. When he indicated that he wanted to apply suction cups, I inquired would they leave a mark? He stated they would leave a slight welt that would fade. He then left for what he says was twenty minutes (felt more like thirty). He then moved the cups further up, so far as the top of my neck, and left again. I am now covered in bruises, full on dark purple, painful to the touch, bruises. The ones on my neck can’t be covered by anything in my wardrobe. So now I am in pain and embarrassed. In talking to others who get cupping done, the practitioner stays in the room and monitors the process to avoid over suction and tissue damage. Unfortunately, with him out of the room, he had no way of doing this.
That said he is incredibly kind, and the acupuncture and massage I got worked well. But because I can’t sit comfortably, and have had to stop and explain my neck to at least 30 people so far, I have to give him a poor review,

Well, I think Samuel Clemens was thinking about Ben’s work as Ben’s acupuncture skills found the points on my meridians, I felt the jolt of lightning opening my qi channels which sent shockwaves to the tips of my fingers and my toes. And much like Mark Twain, I drifted to the land of Zs.

I went to see Benjamin for my sinus problems and fluid in my ear that was causing vertigo. His office is very peaceful and quiet. He did a treatment on me and gave me some herbs to mix in tea. During the treatment I was very relaxed and even fell into a light sleep. The days after I continued to feel better and better. The herbs he gave me cleared up the fluid in my ear within days. I will definetely be a repeat patient in the months to come! If I had the time I would go every week!

Ben is an knowledgeable, thoughtful, and caring practitioner of acupuncture and herbal therapy. I went to see him after experiencing chronic RSI pain in my wrists and neck. In fact, before my first visit, I could barely turn my neck.
I’d never had an acupuncture visit before so I had a lot of questions (would the needles hurt? would it work?), but I felt 10x better after one session. The needles didn’t really hurt and it worked beautifully. It was the only thing that worked in easing the neck pain.
I’ve been seeing him for a few months now to deal with chronic pain and stress and he’s been such a supportive and healing presence. Although I’m not totally healed (RSI can take a while to get over), Ben has been a huge support in the healing process.
I highly highly highly recommend that you see him if you’d like to seek acupuncture/​herbal support for pain/​injury/​anything!

I saw Ben Zappin last night for acupuncture treatment. I was suffering from intense sinus infection pain. Like someone had struck me in the face with a baseball bat. He treated me with needles and gave me echinachea and goldenseal to mix into a sinus rinse.
I went to bed with intense pain and figured I was in for a long night. I did take 2 tylenol but I woke at 4a.m. with the pain gone. It was miraculous. Plus I am currently pregnant so other options– western and herbal were limited.
I highly recommend Ben. He is very knowledgeable.

I have seen a variety of acupuncturists over the years, and after having seen Ben for about a dozen sessions over the last year, I can assure you that he is one of the best. I had a weird pain in my right lower back that went on for about six months… I think it started after a yoga class and spending many hours seated and studying did not help the problem. After one session with Ben I have never had pain in that spot again.
Unfortunately not all my injuries are so easily treatable (ahem…shoulder dislocation due to rock climbing), but Ben’s treatments always leave me feeling significantly better in both mind and body. Ben also has a ton of knowledge about diet and food, but unlike some practitioners he has been able to meet me where I’m at and doesn’t expect me to change my entire diet in one week.
Overall he is a sweet, caring, attentive, and most importantly (for someone who puts needles into your body) very gentle practitioner. And as an added bonus for busy people, he is always very easy to get a hold of via email or phone!
