I really wanted to like this place so bad. The ladies are awesome! However, I wasn’t too big on some of the service. I went a few times to get my hair color (just touch ups) but within a week I was already seeing gray hairs again. I thought this was normal (since I never really got my hair colored) but it turns out it really isn’t. I have had my hair colored at other places and it has lasted much longer. I also was really liking the way my son was getting his hair cut but there but then one day he got it cut from one of the men. He clearly didn’t know what to do with cowlicks. He had to keep asking Elvira and then he cut it really bad. Styling it afterwards was terrible and I hated the way it grew in too. My other problem is that we went there for updos for a wedding. It was myself and my little daughter. She was standing up in the wedding. I loved the way the stylist did her hair. The problem was that it had fallen down by the end of the ceremony and no one had touched it. I had to run to a CVS to (only thing nearby open) to look for a hair clip. Then before the reception my cousins and I were pinning it back up and basically had to redo it. I was not at all happy with my hair but had run out of time to fix it. I went to this place multiple times because I kept hoping it would get better but it just didn’t. So I can see why others might like it but it was hit or miss for me.

The Mistress and the rest of her amazing hairstylist are a god send! Miguel always hooks it up with amazing line up and haircut/​style! And Elvira and the Master of the Arts killed it on my birthday! They gave me the best make over ever! Since the moment I walked in I knew I was in the right spot everyone is so welcoming and professional and KNOWLEDGEABLE. When it comes to my hair, Mistress of the Arts is my mistress.

I’d been going to a fancy salon for years, but it wasn’t the vibe I wanted anymore. I needed a new venue and wasn’t sure where to go. I found it here.
I’m not big on hair style, but I know what I like. And I like this place. Good people, know and love what they do, great atmosphere, excellent value.
I’m definitely going back.

I booked an appointment for a haircut, and when I arrived they had me on the books for the following day (a day I work and therefore would not have made an appointment). Clearly whoever set the appointment made a mistake, whatever, mistakes happen, but the young woman who greeted me did not even apologize or acknowledge the inconvenience this caused. She just kind of looked at me like «yeah, you don’t have an appointment, soooo???» Ultimately I was too put off by the time I wasted and the lack on concern and decided not to reschedule.

Amazing hair stylist, amazing ambiance, exceptional athmosphere, and friendly staff. I love the whole concept of darkness and arts. Kitty is my hair stylist and always has such great ideas and is very professional. Usually best to make an appointment. Would really recommend.

Amazing service. VERY professional in everything they do. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair and the only place I truly trust is this salon since I discovered 3 years ago. I honestly haven’t regret anything they have done to me and my kids.

FINALLY I found the place were I was able to walk out not only feeling good about my new haircut, but extremely happy with the service… Gabby was extremely professional (Ironically we share the same name) VERY friendly and was nice enough to give me tips on how to style, wash, and keep my hair looking amazing… I am absolutely happy and can’t wait for my next appointment!

My mother Fatima had a horrible hair cut at a DIFFERENT salon. I helped her to search for a hair cut (on Pinterest,) that would look great on her, but would still be feasible with the hack job a different salon did.
After choosing a cut, we looked on Unilocal together to find a salon nearby. She visited this salon before work. Elvira cut her hair. My mother’s hair turned out AMAZING! Not only does she look great now, but she feels wonderful. Elvira made my mother feel important, beautiful and confident. My mother said the salon was chic, clean and welcoming. Satisfied is an understatement.

I have been coming to get my hair cut, styled and dyed her for over a year and I can not think of one bad thing to say.
Elvira is the owner of The Mistress of the Arts hair Salon. I hired her to do my hair for my wedding and i was in love with the outcome. I had so many compliments that night for my hair-​do, I was gushing all night!
This place is a very busy one, so if you have a big event coming up book your appointment way in advance. They do welcome walk ins, but you might have to wait a while.
All the stylists are very knowledgeable and love what they do. They not only do adults hair but children too! I bring my boys here to get a trim.
Customer service is very important to me, and they take care of you from the moment you walk in the door. They play awesome music that makes me want to dance in my chair. This place is amazing.

I’ve decided to give my hair a slightly new look since it was looking like a mop (due to extreme hat hair). I made an appointment for Saturday with Kitty.
Kitty understood what I was going for without going into much detail. She’s very nice and full of energy, but has good attention to detail. I’m pleased with my new haircut. I plan to go back for trimmings and possibly a color change in the summer.

I continually kept coming here because Cat was amazing, and she never failed me or my hair. And the people here continued to be nice and super edgy. I loved the ambiance as well. I was heartbroken when I found out Cat had left, but through some stalking, I found that she got her own place called Redrum! I loved it here, but since my only experience was with Cat, I had to follow her. Most of my friends who have been here love it and continue to go! If you’re looking for a place where they understand edgy and unique, this is the place.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is my spot for everything hair. After trying stylist after stylist, shop after shop, I FINALLY went to Mistress of the Arts and walked out feeling glamorous! Elvira took my hair to the rich red I’ve been wanting for years. She’s also been helping me grow my hair out. The ambiance here is so cool and relaxed. The ladies who Elvira recruits are so educated about hair. Everything about here is WONDERFUL! Stop leaving the hair salon disappointed. Come to Mistress of the Arts!

Another awesome hair salon experience at Mistress of the Arts! I have long frizzy, all sorts of textures type of hair. My hair can be a bit difficult to work with at times. And there’s not enough time in the morning to fix my messy hair. That’s why I decided to get the Opti Smooth treatment today. Yes the process took 5 hrs (because I have long and thick hair) and it was pricey but I’m extremely satisfied with the results. It’s now «silky smoot»!! I love it! Thank you Mistress Kitty and Mistress Elvira and Mistress Ari for your hard work !!

It is always a fantastic experience at Mistress of The Arts Salon. I first discovered this place on Unilocal from its strong reviews and the stylists deliver. I have gotten three haircuts since discovering the place with three different hairstylists, including the owner Elvira, and I have loved every single cut!
The stylists know their stuff, are very friendly, laid-​back, and professional. Even though the salon isn’t always filled with stylists, I never felt like my cut was rushed. I love that the stylists are Latinas who are familiar with my hair!
The décor of the salon is eye pleasuring. It has a tattoo salon, sugar skull, pin-​up, Mexican art feel to it. Don’t forget to check out the bathroom ! The music is also great and there is a table with an array of tea and coffee. Parking should not be too difficult to find– it is mostly street parking. Prices are also reasonable– hair cut for around $ 40.

My last three haircuts have been here with three different hair stylists and I’ve never had one complaint… they clearly know their shit!
Unfortunately, don’t recall the first two girls, but I think they are gone. Elvira cut my hair the third time and was very insightful and opinionated on what I could do with my hair. Her mind ran array with ideas! She got me excited about color, but at that moment I only had time for a haircut.
I have a lot of hair that is long and super straight, I needed volume and a bang fix. Prior to coming here, I had trouble finding people doing my bangs right, I have a roundish head and my hair parts weird – dont know what she did, but she did it and I loved it, and I’m coming back! Thanks Elvira!

I’m still giving this place 5 stars because I’ve always walked out happy with my cut, but I’m wondering what’s going on with this place. I know there’s been some turnover. The last new stylist that did my hair did an awesome job with my fringy, layered bob. The thing is I’ve left two voice mail messages to make an appointment, and never received a return call. I hate to stray because I’ve been completely happy with Mistress, but I bought a Groupon package for Michael Anthony. The holidays are here and I need a cut! Stay tuned on Michael Anthony.

If you want a hot, short, edgy, punk-​rocker haircut? Then you must see Cat! If you want hot, long layers, then you must see Cat! I came in with pictures of what I wanted and she did an amazing job! She did exactly what I envisioned. Most of all, she listened to what I wanted to do with my hair and she added her own suggestions. I also truly appreciated she isn’t a chatter box. We had a very light conversation, and just talked about my hair.
The music was great and the salon décor too!

My friend Kike’s been going to Elvira for his haircuts for years and always gushed about how great she is. I, being the low maintenance girl that I am, continued to go to Super Cuts. (Sheet, can’t beat $ 12 for a cut.)
But when my daughter begged for a specific hair cut, I thought «This is my chance!»
I called ahead and Elvira was booked so Stephanie cut my daughter’s hair. She really liked it! And it looks super cute on her.
Stephanie seemed to be newer to the job because I noticed she was being reassured on her technique by another stylist. In the end though, I was pleased with the cut. I hope to return soon for a trim myself.
