Avalon East Norwalk

Let me start with my positive: the staff. There is a small, dedicated, hard working staff at Avalon East Norwalk. They respond swiftly with professionalism and courtesy to any problem, no matter how big or small. I would come to them in a terrible mood, and could never hold problems against them because they legitimately did everything they could to make us happy. The maintenance team is absolutely amazing. They had a LOT to deal with the first two years of running the building, and I think they did the best they possibly could. I can’t say enough about how great the entire team is at Avalon East Norwalk.
That means my problems lie entirely with Avalon as a company. I would recommend avoiding the franchise as a whole. They’re a big bad wolf, you’re the pig with the straw house.
I lived there from day one until September of 2015, so I feel I have a good idea of how the complex ran things. There are a LOT of bells and whistles with empty promises to go with it, and paper thin walls to boot. We could literally hear people above us cooking and cleaning and heard some rather intimate moments from our neighbors. None of them were excessively loud, they were just living their lives and unknowingly sharing them with everyone around them. I’m sure they heard a lot from us too.
I counted at least 5 water outages in two years of living there. This is a brand new building. I’ve been in buildings that were 80+ years old that didn’t have as many issues with water running. At one point, there was a water outage for 4 days. $ 50 and free spring water was supposed to serve as compensation.
We had a LOT of problems with ants infesting (ground floor to be fair) and flies towards the end of our stay. They also seem to have a problem with Daddy Long Legs covering the hallway walls. It’s horrifying sometimes. That plus the blatant disrespect of tenants with pets (not Avalon’s fault but I think the way tenants treat a building reflects on their experience with the company) pissing in elevators and leaving «presents» on curbs just adds to the misery.
You can pay the extra money to have an assigned parking spot but you’re out of luck if someone’s parked in your spot on the weekends because they signed up with a towing company that’s closed on the weekends.
They’re also extremely rigid on lease terms. Don’t expect any leeway if you need flexibility in move in/​out date. They do not care about your circumstances. They care about corporate policy.
Finally, they will nickel and dime you til the very end. We were charged at move out so they could clean the apartment. Absolutely no damages reported, but over $ 100 taken out of our deposit to wipe down the oven and microwave and clean out black stains from the toilet and tub that were caused by mold or some other stuff in their water.
There are a million things I could complain about here. Bottom line: when they use the term «luxury apartments» they mean the style of the appliances and apartment layout. It’s certainly not a luxurious experience beyond the look and the fact that you have a saltwater pool. Renter beware!

This place was a whole lot nicer than the other Norwalk Avalon, and even though it was slightly more expensive I applied for an apartment and for some reason was denied. After that the leasing agent was no longer helpful, stopped answering questions, and at times was down right rude. I gave the place three stars because it is a nice place to live and the location is sweet.

I have been living at this place since June 9 and it has been a great experience so far. The amenities are fantastic and appliances in the apartment are updated. The kitchen is of a good size so those who enjoy cooking will love it. We live in a pool facing apartment so it is a comforting sight after a tough day at work .
We dealt with Kenya Powell (staff member) for our apartment visit and movement here and she has been quite helpful in showing us everything and follow up with our move and related stuff.
The location of apartment is also quite closer to the most of the grocery and shopping areas. We look forward to have a great time during our stay here.
