Avis Rent A Car

A BIG thank you to Julio for helping me out. I’ve been a loyal customer of the «other» car rental agency for many years (see my other reviews).
I needed a car Friday afternoon ASAP to go to Nevada. I had no time for games. Julio understood every concern I had, and even helped me out of a unique situation at the same time!
When I took the car, he apologized profusely that it wasn’t clean. He even offered to clean it, but I needed to get to Nevada and I was in a hurry.
Julio, if you see this, I’m at the car wash getting ready to return the car a day early. THANK YOU for your help!!! Please let your supervisor know they have a new customer!

If I could give no stars I would. I was four minutes late and the person was not only rude but literally locked the door on my face and walked away. Horrible business practice and terribly rude person.

I didn’t have a problem here, the guy was nice. I made the reservation for May 1^st from the day before and when I went there and I got the car. It was clean, the light came on later that day but when I returned it in San Jose, it wasn’t an issue. I wasn’t charged extra for returning to a different location.

This place was terrible. I reserved a car online but when I went to pick up, they didn’t have any cars at all. I drove 15 min to go here and at least I could’ve gotten a call saving me a trip and prevent me from wasting my time. Their was no urgency to rectify the situation or compensate in anyway. I don’t recommend this place at all!

The service here is consistently poor. They’re not friendly when they answer the phone, they don’t go out of their way to help you, they never have consistent help. If you need a ride for some reason and you don’t live that far away they don’t offer that or usually don’t have anybody available for that. When you go to the counter it’s as though they’re doing you a service by waiting on you. Better off with enterprise even though they take a long time their service is night and day better than the experience I’ve had consistently with Avis at this location. Airport is great

Went to pick up a rental and when driving off the lot, the maintenance required light came on. Took the car back to Avis and they tried to convince me that the car just needed an oil change and that would be done when I returned the car. I explained that I was going to be driving for about a week and that the oil change needed to be addressed before leaving on the trip. When I drove the car to my home I noticed that the seats were badly stained, there was trash from previous driver in the car, the tires were very well worn for only 30K miles and the car was as dirty on the outside as the inside. I wish I had done a more thorough check of the car before leaving the lot, however, Avis should at least take the trash from the inside of the car and run the car through a car wash before renting it out.
This was my first and last time renting from Avis — I will pay a little more and stick with Enterprise from now on.

I tried booking my car rental online thinking it would save me time since i only had one hour on my lunch to pick it up, however I get their an the entire location is closed for lunch ??? What kind of BUSINESS like this closes for lunch !! Terrible terrible

This is my second time renting from this location. Both times, the representatives have been professional, and accommodating. so far so good. I have been a Hertz Gold customer, but I’m making the transition over.

This particualr location sucks. Everytime I get a car from here it is dirty and/​or I only receive cars due for a tune up. The only positive thing I can say about this location is that the representative who works here is a cool guy and gets you in and out. But the quality of their cars suck. It’s located near my job, so that’s why I frequent it from time to time. Other than that, I wouldn’t!!! Rent at your own risk.

Looking at the outside of the building it looks run down. When you go inside it looks even worse. It is run down, dirty and dingy looking. You feel like you are in the ghetto. A man comes out after a half hour of waiting and his shirt is dirty, its very wrinkled and he does not look professional at all. I normally rent from Enterprise whom I love, but they were not open on a Sunday so I went with Avis. Thinking they would be just as good, only to find out they are the rip off kings of them all. I was told a small sized car for Sun would be $ 28.09 but I had to get it by 2 pm because they were closing. I rented it for one day. the next day on Monday I called and called at least 20 times but no one picked up the phone even though by this time it was 12 pm. I finally went through the corporate headquarters customer service to get through to them to tell them I was told I had to return the car by 5 or 6 pm and wanted to know the exact time so I would not be late. They told me I had to have it back by 1 pm even though that would make me having the car for 23 hours. I told them I could not make it back in time and why was I told differently when I rented the car. They said tough, and I told them I would have to rent it for another day. Now when I rented the car, they did not show me how to use it. They did not want to go over the car to see if there were any damages on it so I would not be responsible for those damages. They were not professional at all. The car had bangs and scrapes all over it and the interior the seats had stains all over them and the dash board had deep cuts all over it. They had the nerve to charge that much money for it. When I returned it on Tue. he charged me an additional $ 58.00 for the second day and a $ 10 late fee but did not bothering telling me he was charging me a late fee. Probably because I was not late in getting it back, in fact I was early. Grrrrrr. This is a disreputable company and I would never do business with them ever again. They tell you one thing and then do another. As I was leaving a woman was driving her car out she had rented from them. She was yelling at the guy telling him she did not know how to raise up the seat, he did not know either. She did not know where the lights were located, he did not inform her either. As a Triple AAA member as well as Costco Business Member, I give this place a big thumbs down. They will rip you off and to be honest I believe their business needs to be investigated for illegal practices. I do however recommend Enterprise Rent A Car.

Updating my review because it has been a while and these last couple of times i’ve been in the staff has been very friendly and helpful.
The cars were clean and in relatively good shape. It could have been because it wasn’t as packed or busy but I was happy with these last few rental experiences with them. Why do I keep going back. Its relatively cheap with only $ 9 insurance. Online coupons and they don’t do that $ 350 deposit Enterprise and Hertz does.

It should be 0 stars: please this is a warning !! That hindu manager is a straight up a**. When i came in yes i know at closing time he didnt want to take in the car knowing i did show up an i had my kids in the car. He said come tomorrow and went back in his office and when i came in the next day he didnt even want to help out !! Ill nEVER rent from here !! I knew i should have kept renting from ENTERPRISE! For this rental i went to avis because it was 20 $ cheaper then enterprise during that week but not worth it because at the end it cost me 250 $ more for 3 damn days! When enterprise just divides from that weekly rate they FIRSt gave you! And they have great customer service friendly and the manager steps in to help you, he already knows me! What an idiot i am what was i thinking renting from AVIS!!!

Nice place, had a car for me and didn’t play the $$ game with me. Friendly service, easy check-​in/​out.

I’ve used many car rental companies but Avis is definitely the best. They have the best prices and the manager is very accommodating.

Ruined my Christmas Eve! We woke up extra early to come here and get the best car since we are going on a cross-​country road trip with a 2-​month old. We had come here in person once to reserve the car, and again last night to confirm the reservation and clarify their policy on an additional driver being 24 years old. More on that later.
Issue #1:
So my husband gets there this morning and wants to know how much the order is with insurance so they process the order with insurance and they take his credit card. Well they decline the card so I check the balance and its TEN DOLLARS short. Crap. Ok admittedly this is somewhat our fault, I had paid $ 1000 so there would be plenty of room on the card, but a few automated bills went through and we were now short $ 10.
— Ok no problem right? The website says they can split cards.
— Nope, no can do.
— Ok well can I take off the insurance then?
— Nope, no can do.
— So you can not modify my order?
— Nope, I can get charged with phishing and be fired.
— What? Ok… Can you cancel my order and start a new one?
— Only if you have a whole new card belonging to an entirely different person and I add you as an additional driver and charge you extra.
— WTF? Ok can I speak to your manager?
— I am the manager.
— You can’t work with me at all here?
— Nope.
At this point we just decide to rent elsewhere.
Issue #2 was this:
They also had given us conflicting answers on me being able to drive the car. My husband is 26. I am 24. Originally we had attempted to make the reservation with MY credit card. (I couldn’t find my husband’s card so I requested a new one.) They said they could not do this because I was not 25. Even though it was a joint account. Even though we were married. It HAD to have his name on it.
So this made me wonder if I can even drive the car! They say that to add me as an additional driver is $ 25 a day but maybe we can come back and speak to a manager and get this fee waived.
— So yesterday we go there and ask about this
— They say that if I am not 25 there is no way I can be an additional driver. It says on the form, I cannot be 24. There is no fee to waive. The manager can not do anything.
— WTF? last time they told us there was a fee to waive.
— Nope, no such thing.
— Ok… well even though she is my wife she can not be 24 and drive?
— Oh well that is OK she can drive as your spouse.
Umm hmm at this point do I even trust your answer? Why not just say that from the beginning, or when I tried to use my card? Where did this $ 25 come from? What happens if I get in an accident and THEN you decide to tell me I was never supposed to be driving after all?
Then TODAY we finally ask the manager about this issue and here’s what HE had to say:
— Can my spouse drive if she is 24?
— No she can’t drive unless we charge her $ 25 a day.
THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW THEIR OWN POLICIES!
Why is renting a car so awful…
Oh and issue #3
— Ended up with a final amount of $ 900 for a car even though I had been quoted $ 800 online for an SUV! I had originally gone to Avis because they had the cheapest quote. I guess that’s how they suck you in !!
Of course since it was Christmas Eve nobody else had any cars, so now my Father-​in-​law has to spend Christmas Eve checking my car and do an oil change, etc. so we can take our car which we didn’t want to put any more miles on the car.
