The Lofts At Noho Commons

My honest review.
Do your research before signing anything. They will always have move in specials that may seem it’s a deal of a lifetime. They also told me that their apartments go very fast but the amount of tenants i saw leave on a weekly/​monthly basis you’ll start questioning yourself.
There’s a $ 8,000 break lease fee regardless of circumstances. unless you’re in the army.
Roommates are not welcomed unless they are on your lease jointly and don’t even think about subleasing as this is STRICTLY prohibited. In short this apartment is not for you if you’re not financially stable. (These are what previous tenants told me while i was living there and it’s also on the contract)
They have a very strict policy and guidelines to follow as they are trying to maintain quietness For me there was no quietness during the day construction drilling was noisy but not unbearable. Pool closing hours was on the tee…
Your guest can only stay 14 consecutive days. Granted i have european friends & family that visit the state for longer period of time.
Be prepared to hear the fire alarm. There’s hooligans that think this is a game at 2 a.m.
The people in the office are nice at least some of them. I don’t know if they have changed management.
When it comes to maintenance they are bad. You’d think service would be great for the high rent premium but it is not. My AC did not work, it took 2 days for someone to see me which i was ok with but they didn’t fix the job completely.
Big flying Cockroaches were visible in my apartment due to the fact the apartment sat there for months before it was rented out, hence the AC issue. Also there was a water leak that damaged some of my property in which my insurance had to take care of it. (They will ask you for proof of insurance before they give u a unit)
The FREE internet/​direct TV is ridiculously slow… who uses 6mbps upload speed. Bell Internet
sucks. They say it’s included in the rent as an amenity.
You are not allowed to do anything with their apartment unless written permission is given. Heads up. You will have to pay even if it’s painting. There’s a special off white/​cream paint that they used. They’ll tell you who makes it. The guy at the paint store says their company had a contract with them and that they were not good people to work with. I can give you info on that too.
The cost per square foot is actually pricier than their competition. The service is average. The place is beautiful and it is kept clean. The location is great at least to me at the time seeing it was close to north hollywood station.
But is it worth it?
If you want to live in a fancy loft like this one, please do your research and not base the visual and upkeep of the property but ask for contract and bylaws and see if it’s worth it.
I can name at least 3 places to live that competes against this property.
Also the cockroach remark is no joke i still have pictures of everything that went wrong in that apartment stored on my iCloud backup. No false defamation here.

I am not a resident yet, (fingers crossed that everything works out) but I just wanted to write a review about Jason. He is so helpful and so sweet!
Ive been working on leasing a unit for a few days now with Jason and already he has given me so much information and been very accommodating.
I hope that everything works out because I am very excited about this place. T

My wife and I lived here for just under two years and loved it. We were sad to leave noho, but purchased a house.
PROS:
1) Nice units with granite kitchen/​bathroom, wood/​concrete floors, high ceilings, double pane windows.
2) Dog friendly w/​small dog area on Chandler (not fenced)
3) Amazing leasing staff, some turn over… but all new staff were always nice
4) Have summer BBQ and Halloween events for tenants
5) Plenty of guest parking and unassigned tenant spaces
6) Super close to restaurant/​bars/​coffee/​fastfood and the Noho metro stop
7) Central location w/​easy access to 170÷134÷101
8) Secure/​safe complex w/​security at night
9) Nice pool and bbq area w/​landscaping through the complex
10) Met a ton of great neighbors
11) Maintenance staff was awesome and quick. Online fix requests.
12) Nice gym
CONS:
1) Elevators are slow and get really hot in the summer
2) Rent increase of 5−10% each year
3) Airplane noise, but you get used to it. Well insulated units, so fine if windows are closed.
4) Walls seem to be well insulated, but def had some complaints from our down stairs neighbors on the noise we made.
5) No electric vehicle charging
I would definitely recommend considering this complex.

Like:
1) Their service is great — you put your issue online and they come fix it for you the same day.
2) Gina at the leasing office is the sweetest person!
3) Nice pool and BBQ area but I never used it.
4) Great sunlight all into your place and high ceiling.
5) A bit noisy outside if you leave the window open but I like the lively surroundings. I live on the top floor so noise from the up is never an issue for me. Also my next door neighbor is either very quiet or the sound is well blocked.
Dislike:
1) Roaches keep coming out when I rarely cook at home. People came recently to put some non toxuc chemical to get rid of them and now they seem to be gone.hopefully. (anyways they are good at fixing issues or any maintenance)
2) No internet/​phone connection at the grage. So if you are locked in the grage you just have to hope someone will come to rescue you.
3) They say Internet is included in the rent but it is really slow you have to buy about 28/​month for faster speed.
4) Sometimes the grage gate won’t open. (You need to leave the house early just in case if you have an important meeting in the morning.)

If you want the quick version of my review here it is: This is a very nice place to live if money is of no concern to you.
Now the complete review:
First, this is a nice, newish building in North Hollywood. It is one of about 5 comparable apartment complexes in the Chandler/​Lankershim/​Magnolia/​Vineland block in NoHo. All of the buildings are about the same age. All have comparable amenities (pool, BBQ, exercise room, office, etc). When I signed my application in November 2013, Lofts at Noho had rent competitive to other buildings in the area.
I liked the pool and exercise room at this building, but I really liked the high-​ceiling, open-​plan apartments, a nice balcony, etc and was happy to sign the lease.
The building proved to be a very nice place to live. I had no issues with noise. I didn’t make use of the pool as much as I thought I would, but it was nice to have when I did use it. The neighborhood is nice, if a bit dull. You have easy access to the Metro Red Line for getting downtown or to Hollywood, which is a bonus if you’re a transit-​user.
The staff is very nice and does a great job keeping the building up. The management also arranged a few periodic mixers for the neighbors to get together and get to know one another.
A few reviews below complained about the long-​term construction projects. My apartment was situated near the projects and, frankly, I never had an issue. At any rate, the construction has wrapped and it’s not an issue for anyone any more.
The not-​so-​good: Just a few complaints here. You are forced to use DirecTV through BelAir internet (included in the rent) and the service is a bit flaky.
My balcony overlooked Chandler and, frankly, the air over the busy street was so polluted that my furniture was always covered in grime. I couldn’t keep up cleaning it so I barely used my balcony.
Another annoyance was the fact that the ground floor of the building is commercial space — which includes offices, retail and public parking. This was only a problem because on several occasions, pranksters would pull the fire alarm which would trigger the ear-​piercing alarm inside your apartment. Unless you like pain, you have no choice but to leave the apartment. This happened at least three times last year, often in the middle of the night.
If the above were all I had to say, this would be a 4.5 or 5 star review. Here’s the problem I had, which you may want to avoid.
While approaching my 1 year anniversary, I received a letter from the management. The letter said that if I wanted to continue renting on a month-​to-​month basis, my rent would go from $ 1679 to $ 2112!
THAT IS A 25.75% RENT INCREASE!!!
That is insane!
There were other options to sign a six month lease and only suffer a nearly 10% (to $ 1844) I was also allowed to sign a new 1 year lease to go up to $ 1813 — which is an 8% increase.
I asked our building manager if anything could be done about it. I was told that (to my best recollection) they certainly value me as a tenant, but they also could get more money from a new lessee. I was also told that the building enjoying a high occupancy.
In my opinion, they were just saying that they were happy to discard me in favor of someone new.
Now, I considered myself a good tenant. Paid my rent on time. Wasn’t loud. Didn’t make problems for my neighbors. Reported problems — like when I saw a rat running around the complex, or a tree fallen over on my neighbor’s wall or unlocked security doors, etc.
So I was quite shocked to learn that the owners at Redwood Urban were so willing to drive me out with high rent increases after only a year.
As you know, moving is a MASSIVE inconvenience. It disrupts your life for weeks before and after the move. I am not happy about being forced out of a home that I liked (and had no real intention of moving from). In my opinion, this was unnecessary and only happened because of corporate greed, which is why I’m rating this apartment complex only 2 stars.
This is the difficulty of apartment life, I suppose. I view the apartment as my home. The building is my community. I feel as if I am a person and a member of the community.
In my opinion, a corporation like Redwood Urban sees me as nothing more than a consumer bidding for a commodity. If that consumer is forced to move in order to make way for higher profits, so be it. Corporations don’t care about you.
I’m in a building now that’s owned an operated by actual human beings. It is also rent controlled, meaning that if there is an increase, it will not be more than 3%.
So my advice to you is: if you’ve been quoted a rate at Lofts at Noho, and the money doesn’t make you think twice, go ahead and rent here. You’ll probably have a nice time. If the rent feels like it may be a stretch, add 8% and ask yourself if you’ll be happy paying that 12 months from now.

Let me start off by saying I no longer live at the lofts… and I regret it immensely. I only moved out to be with a significant other which was a horrible mistake. I was at the lofts for about 4 years. I moved twice within the units. I had a top floor apartment which was lovely, but at the end of my lease they offered me a larger apartment with a HUGE almost wrap around balcony. I loved that unit so so much. If I ever needed anything fixed, they were right on it. The leasing office keeps packages for you in a safe locked room and the gym and pool are spectacular. I never once had a gym membership while living there. I looooooooooooved my washer and dryer, which does pretty big sized loads. Also, they have a refer a friend program, which they do make good on. Parking is gated, which is great. When I first moved in, there was lots of car thefts, but the gates fixed that. Gheri was a manager when I lived there, then Michelle came shortly after. Both are very nice and were always there to help me. Michelle and I butted heads briefly over a misunderstanding, but she did help me, whenever I needed it. She is no nonesense, which is great because you need a manager like that, especially in the arts district, where things can get a little crazy. It can be a little loud in the area, but again, you’re across from schools and a few bars. You can’t penalize the complex for that. Move somewhere else if that would be an issue. There was much construction and that is the only thing that bothered me the time I was there. However, it looks like they are wrapping it up now, and I certainly plan to come back and check out more units. They can be pricey but overall, this is the best place I’ve lived in Los Angeles AND the longest place I have ever lived in. And that says a lot. Oh yea, the walking distance to the trains, restaurants, bars, grocery store etc., is a HUGE plus. Definitely miss this place! ***tia***

Some people may think the rent is a bit pricey but the awesome customer service and perks fully make up for it.
Case in point, I had a minor flooding issue this past Labor Day weekend and paged the office at 5am on the actual holiday, not 5 minutes later I got a call confirming that someone would come out within the hour, and true to their word I got a knock on my door just after 6am. The tech was amazingly kind and informative and even cleaned up after himself. I have never received that kind of prompt attention at any building I have rented from in the last 20 years.
There are also great perks here like a gym that no one ever uses and I always have to myself, my own washing machine, and many other little nuances that definitely make me appreciate my decision to move in here.

Let me see… had big hopes and was excited when I first moved in here. Place looked nice and clean and quiet, but in reality? It was only quiet because the unit above us was empty. Once someone moved in, it became a hell hole to live in. The walls of the ceiling is ridiculously thin. I can hear the guy upstairs as he walked, now I don’t think he is that fat, but he is certainly loud and noticeable. He also likes to blast loud music and invite his other loud friends over on WEEK NIGHTS.
If you’re a working person who needs to get up rather early, DO NOT LIVE HERE. This complex is packed with hippy arts student who have no jobs nor any courtesy to be quiet. Also, there are LOUD drunk weirdos and homeless people walking around the sidewalk and is just plain disruptive.
The only thing that I liked was the amenities close by (restaurants and movie theater) but even that didn’t warrant any more stars for this complex. Maintenance are okay but not as helpful. For what they charge for rent I am definitely not impressed.
I know for a fact that they are not at full capacity, or even 70%. I should’ve done more research before I moved here. Now I can’t wait to move out.
P. S. they’ve been doing constructions on the site since forever according to my next door neighbor. Will not live here again.

Vey affordable and beautiful apartments and building. Leasing office is helpful and friendly as well. Only think I don’t like is that you have to go with BelAir Internet there and it’s not very fast. I highly recommend though.

Let me start off by saying I have just moved in to the Lofts at Noho Commons. This isn’t a review regarding the facilities, although I will elaborate on those once I’m more familiar with the complex. I just wanted to give credit to Gina who has been my leasing agent. She is incredible! My entire experience, from my initial visit all the way up until I picked up my keys, has been so smooth and it’s all thanks to her. She is very genuine, and takes an active interest in making sure you are completely satisfied with every aspect of your move. I’m moving from out of state so I have been a little overwhelmed, but she has made this part of the move such a relief. Thank you Gina!

I moved into the Lofts at NoHo Commons a few months ago as they met all the criteria I was looking for. They are dog-​friendly (I have two small dogs), have w/​d in unit, secured parking, just a few of my top must-​haves. I was really impressed that the building was newer and the units are modern and urban style which makes it easy for many furniture configurations in the space.
The leasing staff have been highly impressive to me. Michelle the apartment manager is very attentive to the property and its residents and her staff is friendly, accommodating and regularly keeps the residents informed of property updates, maintenance issues etc.
The couple times I have needed maintenance while living there, it has been an easy and painless procedure. I love that you can put in the request online and it’s taken care of within 24 hours. It’s also nice to pay your rent online. No more hassle of check writing to your landlord.
Nothing is ever entirely perfect when it comes to apartment living and I would agree that the massive construction on going in the courtyard is quite an eye sore. I understand from other tenants that it’s been like that for awhile now but I am hopeful that as the management has relayed, it will be completed in the coming months.
The unit needs a storage closet (damn architects!), there needs to be more grass or places for pets to potty (too many let their pets run rampant and don’t clean up) and I wish the ceiling was better sound proofed (no fun to listen to your upstairs neighbor pound around on hardwood floor) but that’s living in an apartment. You take the good and the not so good.
Really my experience thus far at NoHo Commons has been good and I’ve lived in a lot of apartments. I would definitely recommend the community to anyone who like me wants nice accommodations to call home in the city.

Lets see where do i begin… Well besides The Management Company fighting with the builders to finally fix the construction that has lasted 2 years (They have yet to work on it since i moved in a year ago)
A neighbor had her door busted down and was robbed… Michelle told the Tenant «Stop Telling people what happened to you or we will evict you» Sounds to me like a not well trained management team trying to strong arm residents.
There has been cars broken into. Managements view is «We are not responsible for residents property or safety»
Alot of Crime has been happening in this complex. I was paying 1900+ for a 1 bed.
The kicker is the Security team they have in place has been fired and caught smoking pot and sleeping on the job.

The Lofts at NoHo Commons are my first home here in Los Angeles after moving in from Miami, and I must say, it has [mostly] been a great place to call home.
I was a little afraid to move in here after ready all the early reviews, but it was the only place that could rent to me in such short notice, and with a large dog.
My experience with the leasing office has been amazing from day one. They act and treat you like friends. They have been very helpful and very professional, and that did not change after I signed the leasing papers [like in most places].
They are VERY pet friendly. My dogs love walking into the office because they know they will get hugs and treats. They even had a pet day, where they handed out treats and toys for pets. One of my dogs is a labrador, so they bought him a special, heavy-​duty toy just for him. You don’t get that type of personal service anywhere.
They are also very on top of things. When there’s a problem, they act upon it immediately; whether it’s maintenance, or general complains. In fact, we had a very loud neighbor [think: playing drums in the middle of the night], and two months, and two warnings later, they were finally kicked out, and piece was restored.
The parking is safe. I’ve never had any problems in the garage. There’s also a security guard at night.
The amenities are standard [gym, business center, pool], but they are very clean. [For the price point, I would had hoped for something better, being spoiled from Miami, but I can’t really complain.]
So why has this been a *mostly* great place to live? The neighbors. The neighbors are ruining this building.
After the leasing office closes at 6, you see the true colors. You see dogs running around without a leash, or owner. Peeing/​pooping in the little gardens, and not picking up. One of them wasn’t trained, and tried to get in a fight with my two dogs who were afraid of him, and there was no owner in sight.
Even if we have a dog area outside the building, neighbors are too lazy to take the dogs out there. And even in the designated dog area, it is so dirty from people not picking up after their pets, that even my dogs won’t go in it. I have to go to an isolated side street for them to go.
There’s also noise [like the neighbors that got kicked out]. Loud TVs, parties, etc. Now — I may sound like an old man, but loud music and people screaming at 3:00 am on a Tuesday is a little too much. I even had an experience where someone was smoking in an elevator, and I got stuck behind him.
There’s also the Art Institute across the street, so a lot of students cram into units, making it a dorm.
Recently, the leasing office sent out a letter to everyone on a somewhat «very serious» tone telling people to get a hold of their pet, or they will be kicked out.
I’m glad that the office is doing this, and it reminded me once more why I love them.

We had been looking at various office spaces throughout the Valley for quite some time and they were all pretty awful — lousy buildings, poor locations, too expensive or no parking. We accidentally came across the NoHo lofts through a recommendation and immediately snatched up our space. It is the perfect size, great price, plenty of parking and right in the middle of the NoHo Arts District, which is excellent for getting anything you need. The manager, Michelle, is super-​responsive and every little thing we’ve needed since the day we filled out the application has been handled pretty much immediately and happily. Six months later and we are still in love with our space!

After looking for an apartment in the North Hollywood area that would house my pilates studio and effectively serve as an apartment, I stumbled upon the Lofts at NoHo Commons. First of all, the staff is fabulous. Michelle has always been incredibly helpful and so sweet. If I have any maintenance needs, issues, etc, I never have a problem. The maintenance people usually come same day, even to fix a clogged toilet or replace an air filter. The gym is fabulous and NEVER crowded. The pool is practically olympic size so you never feel claustrophobic. They are very accommodating to my dogs, which have a convenient bike path near by to go on walks. I also feel very safe at night being that the building is secure with a call code to enter. If you’re looking for a live/​work space that is safe, hip, and reasonably priced, the Lofts are for you!

When I started looking for a new «locale» in the 91 601 I stumbled upon these cute yet functional lofts. I loved the bamboo flooring/​the location/​the parking was great/​cable TV included in the price of rent?/ and 1000 $ off move in costs? WOAH! Then I got the harsh reminder that as moma always said «If it’s too good too be true, it probably is» Sigh… as much as I wanted this to turn out as a 5-​STAR review it can’t be much more than a 1 – 2.
So…that being said. Let’s start with the good. Gina one of the leasing agents was great! I think she really tried to make this work for both parties– there were just so many ‘incidentals” that it DIDN’T.
1^st off– d/​t my lack of credit I was asked to pay a 2mo deposit just in order to get in the door (mind you that this was 1week prior to the 1^st of the month when another 1750 $ was due) totaling close to 4000 $k!!! Well, I negotiated and came to a modest price of about 2000 $K to move in– this including the 1000 $k off move in costs! Not happy but do-​able. Ok… negative #2– when I had looked at leasing I was given the ok for a specific unit– later when I returned I was told that that unit was given to someone else and I had a different unit. Same floor and layout but in an area much farther from stairs/​elevator and with much more traffic from the gym 24hr fitness across the street. Ok… still Im on board thinking we can make this work. Negative #3– when I phoned to arrange a date to connect the DIRTV/​internet I was shocked to find that it was going to cost me 177 $ to establish this fee (ontop of the 88 $/​mo thats incorportated into the price of rent already) plus you have to rent equipment for every TV that you have with DIRTV– this wasn’t really discused and came as surprise– included in the rent price to me means Im not paying more! Lol And now the best one! Negative #4 and final– I get a call days before I am to sign my lease paperwork and the manager Michelle tells me that b/​c I am on the top floor and I have a large SERVICE DOG mind you– that she HAS to include a clause stating that if at any time my SERVICE DOG makes «excessive» noise Lofts at NOHO has the right to terminate my lease and I can either move to a lower level unit (if available) or move out completely… my dog is NOT loud but I didn’t want to walk on pins and needles every day at a place I am paying WAY too much for in the 1^st place. So… needless to say– I hope all works out but this wasn’t the golden egg it was sold to me as!
Buyer be aware! Just ask all questions upfront– and be ready for many «hidden» jems. Lol

The Building managment caters to low income/​welfare paying renters, as such, a high output of advertisement geared towards low income programs are daily advertised on Craigslist. Funny thing is, that those with low income are offered large apartments for the same price everyone else pays for the smallest apartments. This is extremly backwards. Furthermore, 80% of the community amenities don’t exsist. The so called free direct tv and Internet is a mandatory $ 81 a month charge. The place is a hellhole and a nightmare. Can’t wait for my lease to end.

DO NOT LIVE HERE! There are so many problems with this building. I moved here last year. To my dismay a major construction project began shortly thereafter throughout the 2^nd floor, surrounding the common areas. Management has lied to residents multiple times regarding an end date to this construction, and guess what… the construction is still in full swing! It turns out the building is being sued and has no actual idea how long this loud disruptive and unsightly construction will continue. To make matters worse, the pool and hot tub have been drained and completely out of use for more than a month now. Management fails to give accurate updates, lower rent, or make any concessions for the NIGHTMARE that is «The Lofts at No Ho Commons». I thought I was moving into a high end property… I expected to be treated with professionalism and respect. Instead I’m faced with a greedy owner/​management company, that is secretive and has no problem lying straight to your face.
The elevators throughout the property have been defaced for nearly a year. Upon move in management said they would be replaced… a year later… still defaced. A building that charges $ 1400-​$ 2200– per month, should be able to restore it’s elevators.
This building has undergone multiple management changes. The current property manager cares very little for the residents peace of mind and quality of life. She is however very concerned with penny pinching and cutting corners that serve the company. It’s ironic because if you forget to include you $ 28– water/​trash bill with your rent she will hound you like you stole something, but when the building owes you something, she tries to give you as little as possible, as has no shame in her mediocre explanations.
It should be noted that there has been a rise in crime in the area lately. Mostly robberies. There have also been vehicle thefts and break ins in the underground guest and resident parking of this building. Though I haven’t heard of any here recently. You can monitor the types of crime taking place in different neighborhoods by visiting
all you need is the address. I suggest doing this for anywhere you think of moving.
On the flipside, the apartments are beautiful… just not worth the money or the headache.

Place is shit. Rude managers. People get towed for no reason by management. Don’t move here, you will regret it. Stay away Stay away. Way better place somewhere else.

My husband and I moved into the Lofts at Noho Commons July 29, 2010. We just signed our 1-​year lease renewal because we’ve loved living here.
We have great amenities — a large pool and hot tub, plenty of fully reclinable chairs by the pool, and three covered tables. We also have an excellent gym with lots of different equipment including weight machines and cardio machines, plus free weights. A few times a year, a trainer/​trainers will offer free classes such as boot camp or ab classes. It would be awesome if they would extend that into more cardio-​type classes such as zumba or kickboxing or something, but it’s nice they offer something like this at all.
Outside the gym by the pool is a large outside fireplace, which is great for community parties or just to hang out by after dark with friends. There are also two awesome built-​in grills that always have plenty of gas, and we use them pretty often. Next to the grills are two tables with 4 chairs each for resident use.
The Lofts also offers a great business center with four very fast Windows computers hooked up to a printer (black and white only) and fax machine. It’s so nice not to have to find a Kinko’s if we need to fax something! The leasing agents are super nice and accommodating, too — one time the printer was running out of ink and I needed to print something right away, so they let me use one of their computers in their office to do it.
We have 24-​hour security, so many residents feel safe enough to leave our doors unlocked for short periods (if we go to the pool, gym, or the grocery store). Our parking is underground and gated and there aren’t assigned spaces (except for a few for people who pay extra).
Animals are welcome here and although the pet rent is a bit high ($ 50/​month/​pet), they provide doggy bags for us outside. I definitely think they should lower the pet rent because it covers nothing else, but at least my little maltipoo can be here!
There are 4 loft sizes to choose from here, and although we’re in the smallest and it’s taken some adjusting to get used to, the nice polished concrete floors, contemporary cabinets, and granite countertops make up for some of the lack of space. It’s swanky! There is a lack of storage space so you have to get creative, but we’ve been up for that challenge.
Additionally, having a washer and dryer IN our unit is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. It’s absolutely not worth trading off for something else. We also have an awesome, good-​sized patio out back we use nearly every day.
Overall, this is an excellent place to live and the tenants are good natured and friendly. Pretty much everyone says hi to everyone else, so this probably isn’t the place for you if you’re a curmudgeon or loner. At the same time, nobody bothers anyone else, we all just get along here. The rent is a bit on the pricier side, and what they call «market rent» before they apply all the specials is a bit ridiculous and overpriced. Hopefully the rent doesn’t jump too much in the near future because we definitely want to live here indefinitely.
