I have read the reviews here and I have to differ from the bad GREATLY. This is a school people. These are students. Some are good, some are great, and some need some work. That is what SCHOOL is for.
They take longer than a salon and are imperfect but that is why they offer discounted rates. They are under instructor supervision. They have things they have to do, like have their work checked.
Whenever I have gone there the students were friendly, did a great job for where they were in their education and I have been completely satisfied. Well worth the price. Have patience, be kind and remember that you are not perfect and neither are they.

I have been going to beauty schools for a very long time because bleach and tones are really expensive and they are hard to keep up. Schools are easy alternative ways. I used to love when I would go to this school maybe a year and a half ago, now I never want to go back.
From the moment I sat down by the window I immediately notice how freezing it is like, ok I understand it’s 10am but I literally have goosebumbs under my sweatshirt. After speaking up multiple times nothing was done and when everyone (students included) complained it was still in the 40s.
Now to the actual hair… we were going on 4 HOURS of having bleach on my hair. I was so scared for the damage they were doing to it that I wanted a deep condition. When the time was going by so slow sitting there freezing with bleach on my head I was so done I didn’t even want a blow dry let alone a deep condition. When I went home and dried my hair they didn’t leave the toner on long enough and I have YELLOW BRASSY HAIR. I tried fixing myself with at home toner but nothing has been effective. I had to go to my office job with hideous yellow brassy hair I am mortified.

Nice staff but they’re extremely slow and inefficient. A full foil and hair cut took over six hours! Also, they charge for everything. I ended up paying 60ish for a 37 dollar groupon. For the amount of time I sat there, I felt extremely disappointed in the store.

Can’t stay away from this place! First of all this is a school… be aware that if you choose a phase one student you’ll have students working on you who have been in school for between 2 – 10 months approx. Some of them will be very confident and adept in their chosen career path and others will still be learning the ropes as well as tying to get their confidence level up. If you want to guarantee you get a student with killer confidence you’ll have to pay for a phase 2 student… these students are near the end of their schooling and are considered «honors» students.
The first time I came here I got a phase 2 student… slightly pricier but the prices aren’t expensive anyway. I got a deep condition and flat iron (which they call smoothing) They also offer free hand paraffin with the phase 2 students ((you’ll pay 5.00 for this in phase 1) the girl was extremely efficient and I don’t believe this service took any longer then had I gone to a professional. My hair felt so silky and amazing afterward and stayed straight for about a week (I have very thick curly coarse ethnic hair). I think I paid about 37.00 dollars plus tip
This most recent visit I opted for a phase 1 student to save a couple bucks. I got a very drastic haircut. This time the student had only been in school a few months… and she was WONDERFUL she’s officially my go to until she graduates in 2015… everyone I highly recommend Crystal Crespo! Can’t wait to see how great she gets over the course of her year at school.
My haircut did take longer then if I’d gone to a salon but it’s a school so no complaints… the learning leader came over every step of the way and did an awesome job tending to students and clients. I really couldn’t be happier with my visit. Loved chatting with the girls and they did a fantastic job executing everything they’ve learned so far in school. My haircut was only 12.00 which normally includes was, cut, and style. But since they wanted to cut my hair straight I also got a free flat iron :) I already made my next appointment (with Crystal) Maybe in a few months I’ll get some color done by her.
As long as you’re aware you’re coming to school and set your standards accordingly you won’t be disappointed. .if you’re someone with little patience and respect for others then this isn’t the place for you.

I’ve had nothing but great experiences at Paul Mitchell the School North Haven! At my first visit I didn’t know what I really wanted and they convinced me to go red and I haven’t looked back since! They got the hair color to complement my skin color perfectly and often people think it’s my real color! As far as my haircuts go, granted they haven’t been real complicated — I used to have a semi-​graduated bob and now I have long layers, but it always looks great. I feel confident with the students and if there’s ever a question, a learning leader is always around to give guidance or touch things up. One thing to expect is that services take much longer than in a «real» salon because let’s face it – they’re students — and the learning leaders basically check things every step of the way, which takes time and is a good thing, if you ask me. I’ve been going there for about 2 years now, and I’ve seen a lot of other clients get good cuts and color as well.
Bottom line: Services there for me have been as good as or better than I’ve had in «real» salons (don’t even get me started on Astor Hair in NYC!) Save yourself some money and look great!

It can take all day, but I like coming to the school for haircuts when I have the time. It’s cheap, and I’ve gotten really fantastic cuts. Never had a bad cut actually — all have been quite good. I don’t mind experimenting with my hair though, so I’m an easy customer. They also do eyebrow waxing for only $ 7. Such a bargain!

I asked my ‘future professional’ to give me something fresh for my long hair. It DOES take a while to get your hair done as they have to have their «learning leader» sign off and make sure they’ve done it correctly. I’d rather sit in and it done right, help someone complete their education, and get a good cut.
I LOVED my cut and for $ 12 who can complain? I really don’t know what others expectas all of these people are at different stages of their learning. If you’re going to get furious at someone for learning how to cut hair (and volunteering yourself) then you should be getting angry with yourself. Spend your precious money somewhere else. We’ve all had to work at something to get good at it and these people need practice. No one is forcing you to go there.
I say that this is a fantastic place. All of those working were very nice, very well-​meaning people. I scheduled my six-​week appointment without hesitation (with the same girl!). I asked her if they get credit for repeat customers and they do keep track.
If you expect perfection, proceed with caution. If you are ok with risking that for a less expensive cut, you present the opportunity for everyone to become more skilled in their future trade.

I am a fan, and enjoy having my haircut here, as I have for several years now. In fact, both my daughter and I enjoy coming together when we have time to spend a day. It typically takes hours to get in and out, but it’s inexpensive, and I enjoy letting students practice on my hair. I like a fashion-​forward look, and can count on a good (notice I did not say ‘perfect’) cut that has the element of fun and surprise I enjoy. I also have a friend who routinely gets her color done here, and they do a terrific job. I always get the eyebrow wax as well, and appreciate the service! When I have encountered more timid, less experienced students, it has always been my experience that the teachers have stepped up and adjusted the cut accordingly. If you don’t want to spend a lot, and don’t mind spending a LOOOOOOONG time getting your hair cut by a student, then this is the place for you. Not recommended for a basic trim. You’l spend all day and I don’t think it’s what they do best. P. S. People ALWAYS ask me where I get my great haircuts — and guess what? It’s Paul Mitchell School.

Aweful experience. You get what you pay for. Plus the owner is rude.

I know, it’s a learning experience for the students.
I know, the prices are really inexpensive because of that fact.
But it’s inexcusable to have someone not know how to pull off a basic trim. A trim. No layers. Just a simple trim to clean up some split ends. It’s inexcusable to not have someone pull off a basic blow out and adjust the temperature to the blow dryer so I don’t come away with a sore and possibly burnt scalp.
There is no way in hell I would ever let them consider color here.
If you’re really on a budget, a chain place is a MUCH better option.
