Specialties

History
Established in 1984.
Our long and distinguished history began in 1957 in the formation of Charle Ponte Music Company on West 48th Street in mid-town Manhattan.
Brian was reedmaker and apprentice from 1979 through 1984, when the owner retired and sold off the assets. Brian purchased the double reed inventory and mailing list of the business to begin Charles Double Reeds. It was moved to Brooklyn and turned into a mail order company.
We went back to Manhattan soon after and opened a full retail shop in a beautiful loft on West 28th Street. The internet allowed us to expand dramatically, and also allowed us the freedom to relocate.
We are now in the 4 season resort area of Mount Washington Valley in Central New Hampshire.
Meet the Business Owner
Brian C.
Business Owner
Brian attended Juilliard and Manhattan Schools of Music as a performance student of Harold Gomberg. In addition to working on TV commercials and soundtracks, he has been a member of many ensembles and has extensive performing credits.
Brian founded Charles Double Reed Company in 1984, after a five year apprenticeship at Charles Ponte Music in mid-town Manhattan. He was fortunate to be able to know and learn from old world repair techs including Pedro Rivera and Saul Fromkin.
Brian has specialized in the repair of double reed instruments for many years. His clients have flown in from as far as Australia for his services.
In 2008, he founded North Conway Music Center, a community music center which offers instruments, accessories, repairs, rentals and lessons throughout central New Hampshire.
