Jake’s Place Men’s Barbering Lounge and Spa

Been going here for a few months and always an extremely professional and relaxing place. From being in the Military for over 18 years I have had a lot of haircuts and Katrina is by far the best barber I have ever had. She is a perfectionist and takes a ton of pride in what she does. She is also hilarious which makes it that much better. Would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new barber.

I come here for the traditional hair cut. Kelly is an amazing Barber, she’s very professional and is very meticulous. She works with what you want and knows what’ll look good on you. She’s been cutting hair for years, so you can definitely trust in her capabilities. She always gives the same great service with every visit. Her tools of the trade are the best in the industry standards, you’re only as good as your tools and she’s one of the best! What gets me though is that she/​they would come in on their sundays and even Christmas eve to help me/​us out, that is above and beyond normal business standards in todays society, I respect that a lot.
Jakes place is as good as it gets because the vibe and professionalism is one of, if not the best places to get a haircut. Aside from the traditional hair cut, they do offer other services. I do not know of any other barber place that offers beer or water except for Jakes place. Jakes place has a great sense of principles because they’re always improving when they don’t really need to. 5*****

Excellent cut, excellent shave, and a complimentary O’Conners Beer to boot. The employees are extraordinarily friendly and accommodating (Shout out to Rachael! She gave me the delightful cut/​shave.). I made an appointment online, but had it accidentally set for another day. Fortunately, the staff was courteous enough to fit me in when I showed up a day early. They do just about everything here and made me, a military dude from out of state, feel right at home. Oh, I was also given a discount… Make this place your go-​to if you’re staying, or just visiting, the Hampton-​Roads area!

We were new to the area and my husband was looking for a nice barber place. He really loves Jake’s Place! He enjoys coming here and always gets a good haircut. Only thing is you always need to have an appointment because it’s a very popular place. Walk-​ins are possible, but very unlikely you will get one.

This place rocks. I’m new to Norfolk and needed a place to get my hair cut. Unilocal steered me right. First class service at the front desk and Katrina, my hair stylist, did an awesome job. I couldn’t be happier.

I was visiting some relatives in Virginia Beach and had been told about an area of Norfolk called Ghent, so I thought I’d give it a chance. I had decided to get a haircut before visiting and did some research on where to get the best men’s haircut and Jakes Place was at the top of the list.
I have never had my hair cut in a barbershop or professional salon before, I have only had friends cut my hair so I didn’t know what to expect… I was not disappointed.
The package I chose was the «Signature Haircut,» this option comes with a cut and straight razor shave.
The Cut: I am not very particular when it comes to a haircut and just gave the stylist (whose name I’ve forgotten) an idea of what I like and let her decide what would be best for my hair type. She did an awesome job and was very patient with answering my questions and even more patient when I asked her to do some extra detailing.
The Shave: I have used a straight razor a few times before and have had mixed results. I have very sensitive skin on my neck and am prone to irritation and breakouts after a shave. The stylist was able to use some techniques and products that left me with a close shave and no irritation to speak of. She did use this awesome product (of which I forgot the name of) which was able to really stop the irritation from happening. I must warn you that when applied it felt as though a thousand bees had stung my face… but it only lasted a few seconds. I would gladly take that pain after shaving to not have redness and pimples.
One TINY drawback would be the choice of refreshment. I am no prude, but at noon I would of rather had juice or sweet tea than beer or wine. Yes, water and coffee were an option but something more would have been nice.
Overall a great barbershop with very nice and knowledgeable employees. If I am ever in Norfolk again I would definitely had back to Jakes Place for a haircut and shave.

Underwhelming. I really wanted to like this place, and was hoping it would be a relaxing way to de-​stress.
After waiting for 20 minutes after my appointment time, I got a decent haircut. Then… don’t misread it as a «hot lather» shave… the hot towel shave is just that: a hot towel and then a DRY razor across your neck. Not so fun feeling, and left me looking patchy.
I could have got the same experience at a traditional barber for ¹⁄₃ the cost. I feel like the extra cost is just for the «experience» (i.e. the option pay even more for a drink while you wait).

Had several haircuts at Jake’s and was great. I wanted to treat my 16 year old to a real hair cut. After his haircut he Thanked the hair stylist and walked up front in order for me to pay. The older receptionist scolded him for not thanking her for the cut. First, she is not his parent and had no business scolding and embarrassing him in front of people he did not know. Second, I pay for a haircut and not for someone to parent my teen. Third, if a place makes my son uncomfortable then it cannot be we welcoming to m. I will not go back! Which is a shame since the stylist is wonderful.

Really like the vibe of Jake’s Place. Very laid back, and extremely friendly staff who go out of their way to make sure you are 100% satisfied. I’ll definitely be a regular customer from now on!

Very swank located in Norfolk this is the place for men only providing manicures, pedicures, body massages and haircuts. The service is always top notch! While waiting they serve beer and wine (no mix drinks) can be pricey according to your needs

This place is very nice. Not like a lot chain men spas. Nice and relaxing and the personnel are very polite. They even offer beer, wine, and other assorted beverages while you wait. Really like the facilities! Good idea for a birthday, Father’s Day or special occasion.

My favorite place for a haircut. Premium services are available, but by no means required. I get a great haircut and am treated like a king without feeling weird about it. Definitely recommended.

I have been. Jakes client for just about as long as they have been open, and the reason I keep coming back (at least 3 times a month) is they are simply the best! Whether it’s a haircut, shave or massage there is no place else I would go. Many of the ladies have been at Jakes for years, that tells me that they like coming to work, and it shows in their attitude and passion for what they do. Guys if you think you wouldn’t like a pedicure, the staff at Jakes will make you feel at home and you’ll leave feeling great! Great gift ladies to give to your boyfriend, husband or even Dad.

Gender discrimination is an amazing thing… Thanks for nothing — because I am a woman, regardless of my existing haircut — which is short and androgynous (a mans haircut), that I get at my hometown BARBER –they wouldn’t take me. Walk into the 21^st century ‘Jake’, please. You suck.

For now, my review can only cover the massage service since I have not yet had a haircut here.
I booked a 60 minute deep tissue massage because I had just finished an 8 week long intensive weight lifting program and was in serious need of some recovery.
Jessica was my massage therapist and she did an excellent job.
She incorporated alot of aromatherpy as well as hot stone and trigger point pressure. There were definitely some moments when I was wincing because of my muscle tightness but at the end of it, I felt refreshed and rejuvenated.
The staff here was also very friendly and upbeat. It just seemed like everyone enjoyed to be working there (which is always a great sign!).
I hope to get my haircut here soon and will update my review once I do.

My friend actually recommend this place since I am newbie in the area and since then I’ve been coming here every two weeks to get my hair done. I love this place and I feel like at home. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating.
This place has a wide variety of care services such as hair cut, manicure, pedicure, foot spa, hot leather shaves and even different types of massage.
On the other hand, they also offer grooming products from hair care to shaving cream. I have been using nioxin shampoo and conditioner a couple months now and I do love it.
I personally recommend «Lauren» for hair styling. She’s really good and knows what exactly you want.
I suggest to book your appointment ahead of time.

I found this place almost by accident and wouldn’t go anyplace else for a haircut, manicure, or pedicure.
They are a full service spa that provides everything from haircuts to massages.
They offer a wide variety of care packages including haircuts, massage, manicure, pedicures, and hot lather shaves. It is even better that they make every attempt to keep you with the same person every time visit. One great deals they offer are package deals of 6 services. It allows you to schedule out your services and ensure that you develop a relationship with your stylist.

I started coming to Jake’s Place when they first opened it up and I was happy to find a men’s spa location in the Hampton Roads area. I think it’s a fantastic concept and I was very happy with all of my experiences there, but I feel like it’s missing a few details that can really make it great.
I envisioned having one of those places that you can find in New York, Boston or Chicago. A men’s club that is more of an upscale getaway and hangout spot for the men of the city. Maybe that’s more of a men’s club like Sherlock Holmes used to be a part of in Victorian London.
I feel like they offer great services and the prices aren’t too steep. I’m a bit surprised at the lack of photos at the time of this review. I’ll have to remedy that when I get home. I don’t know why it’s been so long since I got a trim or a massage here, but I need to come back and become a regular. It’s worth it in my opinion.

Ask for Heather! I’ll say it again for those that didn’t catch it the first time… ASK FOR HEATHER! There’s a difference between having someone cut your hair and having an artist create the perfect haircut for you. Sensational, nuff said!

Just about every year on vacation I grow out a goatee just to change things up a bit. My traditional last act of vacation spoilage is to get a haircut and a hot lather shave before heading back to work.
For the last couple of years, Jake’s has been my go-​to spot and it will continue to be in future years. Rachel took excellent care of me this time and I could not have been happier with the experience.
Not only did she cut my hair exactly the way I asked for it, she also expertly shaved off my vacation facial excess without so much as a nick or a missed whisker. All of the hot towels (finished with a cold towel) and balm rubs were more than worth the price of admission.
I was at her station for almost an hour and a half and not once did I feel like she had to get me moving along. She constantly engaged me with interesting conversation which made the time fly right by.
So, if you want a decadent and self-​indulgent grooming experience from somebody who knows more about the Ghent dining scene and recent cable television programming than you do, make sure you ask for Rachel.
