College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving

I needed to get rid of a sofa, love seat, and coffee table fast. After several days perusing the internet, I found College Hunks online.
I was able to schedule an appointment online to arrange for pickup which was an easy process. There was a disclaimer that the service wasn’t free and a price would be quoted at the time of pickup. I decided to go with it, because the price couldn’t be too expensive to dispose of a coach, love seat, and coffee table, right? (Didn’t try Goodwill or Salvation Army due to minor damage to the sofa)
I later called the customer care line to get an estimate in advance to avoid any sort of surprises and couldn’t get a straight answer on how much the service would cost (side eye). At this point, I’m starting to feel not so good about my decision to go with College Hunks, but kept my appointment anyway.
Prior to delivery day, I received either an email, text or phone call reminding me of my scheduled appointment for the next day — can’t remember which. On the day of, they arrived on time, were professional in appearance (in uniform) and demeanor, and overall pleasant to do business with.
The day of, I was taken through a 5 page presentation which was the build up to the price. I was charged $ 256 to move my THREE! items which is pretty steep. The reason I was given for my move costing so much was the pricing is based on the space taken up on the truck by your items as well as the cost to dispose. Quirky pricing if you ask me and quite frankly, I proceeded because, again, I needed to get rid of my living room set fast.
While the two movers that showed up were exceptional… and the process was easy to arrange a pickup, they were expensive and quite frankly, I don’t think it’s good business practice to not disclose the price upfront vs. purposely holding out on disclosing the price until two movers arrive at your home to complete the job.

3 hunks from CHHJ did a GREAT job! They were on time for the appointment (actually early) and came prepared to work! I filled ¾ of their truck so there was much work to do! Jajuan, Alec, and Jahlil were all smiles the entire time and very polite. Great communication throughout the process from appointment setup, to confirmation the day before, to calling before arrival, and updates on how full the truck was getting. They did not slow their pace when it started raining cats and dogs! I highly recommend them and will be using them again!

We had a very positive experience with College Hunks from initial reservation through the moment the move team left us in our new house.
Phil in the local office was prompt and polite providing my quote and made sure to explain all details. The team called when they were leaving their office with an arrival time and once they arrived, went through the house together to ask questions and make sure they understood any move requests and special items handling. This was a difficult move with a lot of stairs and tight corners but they handled it like the trained team I was promised.
Our team of three was Malcolm, William and Sean and they worked really well together. They were simply outstanding: professional and polite, we could tell they took pride in doing their job well.
I have moved a lot over the past 7 years, almost every year. I have tried a couple of different companies with sporadic success. This is a company I will use again. Only, next time I will probably let them unpack and pack me too!

The team that moved me is not the one reflected in the pictures on this page, so that is a bit confusing because I was told that they only have one team in Atlanta. Anyway, the three young men I dealt with were all very polite, pleasant to speak with, and punctual. The initial consultation went off without any problems and the actual day of the move went by very quickly. Despite having some heavy pieces and moving from the third floor of an apartment to a house with a somewhat difficult floorplan to maneuver on a hot Georgia day, the team remained relatively positive and pleasant.
Now for the downside:
1. There were a few «oh crap» moments. Namely, watching (or rather listening to — I didn’t want to watch) the team move our front-​load washer and dryer down the stairs of the apartment on a handtruck without straps. But for what it is worth, the set made it into our home without issue.
2. At one point the team told a funny story about a prior client… but also complained about that client. This seemed somewhat unprofessional.
3. They broke two pieces of furniture. I’ve moved enough times to know that it is inevitable to have something break, but we explained to the team a few times throughout the day how upset we’d been with the performance of a previous moving company because of ending up with broken items. Despite allaying our fears that this experience would be different, we ended up with a broken stand of somewhat expensive TV trays because they had been wrapped in a blanket and taped so tightly that the legs popped off of the stand. The team couldn’t hide this from us because the stand was unwrapped in front of me. The suggested solution? Wood glue. Yeah, because that’s going to make everything 100%. Additionally, the top of each tray was scratched because they didn’t wrap each table individually, opting instead to keep the four tables on the stand before wrapping. Finally, after the team left, I went upstairs to my bedroom and noticed that a leg on my antique bedside table was splintered and busted — probably from the same defect of having been too tightly wrapped/​taped.
All in all, I give them 3 stars because they were nice young men, they were on time, and they were generally pleasant. But I really do wish they’d owned up to breaking the second piece of furniture and offered to take something off of the total.

I didn’t even get past getting a quote. I was scheduled for a quote between 8 – 9 am. The owner called and said because of the distance he needed to come later (I live inside the perimeter). I ask for his number to call him back with a different time and date. Instead of just saying yes, he started into a speech about not wanting to waste either one of our time. It was clear HE didn’t want to waste HIS time and HE didn’t want to be inconvienced or quote for a move.
The owner does not reflect their façade of customer service. And, after talking with him twice, changed his excuse for the time frame change two more times. One is the truth. Pick one and stick with it. I would recommend you try another company that is honest and straight forward.
