I always go to brunch here! The coffee is fresh and delicious and the food is wonderful. I would get here early on weekends, because there’s always a wait, but it moves quickly. I get the eggs Benedict frequently, and it’s the bomb. It’s perfectly made. I also get their eggs with bacon & toast combos a lot and they are always fresh and tasty. I love grandmas rocking chair pancakes, which have apples, cinnamon and granola if you are in the mood for something sweet– maple syrup is good. Definitely try this is you are in the mood for brunch, I haven’t really tried their lunch selections, but I would imagine that’s good as well.

This is a clean, unpretentious restaurant in Newtonville. There is plenty of parking nearby in the lot behind the restaurant and other stores. Food is good and well prepared. I have been happy with everything I have ordered. They will serve breakfast food regardless of the hour! They have a good beer selection and service is good. I have gone there with the guys(a group of old friends) and we all enjoyed it.

Solid atmosphere, ordered chocolate chip pancakes but they only had 8 chocolate chips which is why this isn’t a five star review. Very nice waiter, a little pricey but fair. Pancakes were delicious especially after being smothered with butter and drenched in syrup. Water was fresh and cold. Plenty of parking available.

I’ve probably gone to brunch here 30 times in the past few years. Rox is a solid breakfast and brunch spot(and perfect option if you are looking for great breakfast for dinner.) + their classic breakfast is great and a good price. I get it with a side of hollandaise to dip those crispy potatoes and their good toast in. + pancakes and waffles are huge and fluffy. + corned beef hash is awesome + they are happy to customize + decent quality ingredients and cage free eggs + excellent fresh squeezed orange juice + call ahead seating. You can put your name on the list and avoid crazy lines. — it can be super cramped in here when it’s busy. — their coffee is okay. I sometimes sneak in George Howell from down the street because it’s better. Always love it here!

Blueberry Pecan Mascarpone pancakes. Think about that. What could possibly go wrong? They are absolutely heavenly. If you are so inclined, there is also a banana chocolate chip mascarpone alternative. They are also excellent, but the blueberry ones take the cake(no pun intended). It is not close, IMHO. Omelets are large, well made(i.e., ingredients are actually well distributed — a novel concept at some other places) and delicious, and there are myriad choices. Other personal favorites include corned beef hash and eggs, which on occasion can be too heavy on the vinegar, but is usually on point, and the pastrami scramble. «Regular» pancakes are, of course, available in different forms and never disappoint. Lunch and dinner are also worth exploring. In particular, their meatloaf(now a recipe that’s similar to what they used to serve at the sadly-closed Rox Café in the Highlands) is quite a treat. I’ve been a regular at Rox Diner for a couple years, sometimes visiting twice in a day. Alas, my eating habits have changed, and I do not frequent it as much, but after a recent visit(to enjoy my pancakes!), I felt compelled to write this review. Prices can be slightly steep on some items, but are — by and large — in line with the area, and when we consider relative quality(say, compared to a place that is not too far), it is Rox Diner hands down every time. Coffee is ok. Service is usually very friendly and prompt. We have run into the occasional«unmotivated» hostess, but that’s been rare and definitely was not the case this last time. Servers are typically very friendly. This last visit we sat with Regina, whom we had never met, and she was great. We’ve also sat many times with«old timers» Lana and Lilly, who are fantastic.

Super good. Go as soon as you can. Echoing what everyone else is saying re: tastiness. A star off for priciness + small sides portion(for the $-to-home fry ratio, fill my plate!)

YESSSSS. I’ve eaten here once, but I generally try to avoid eating at the restaurant and just get take out brunch! This place is always packed on the weekends with people waiting… So if you plan to go, get there early or plan to wait for awhile. Take out is the best way to go! I usually get the eggs benny(typical of me) and my boyfriend gets the corned beef hash! Both delicious. The hollandaise sauce is perfect and not too heavy. Eggs cooked just how I like it — nice and runny. Hashbrowns are on point! The corned beef hash is awesome, salty goodness. I’ve tried their stuffed French toast before and it’s just oozing goodness. Staff are nice, but again. I usually get takeout to avoid the lines during brunch time because it gets a little insane.

My kids and I had breakfast here recently on a weekday morning and we enjoyed it a lot! The restaurant interior is cute and we got a window seat(I could see how this place could get busy, though, and the wait could be long, as there wasn’t a ton of seating inside). Our waitress was very pleasant and we were impressed by the menu, as there are a LOT of offerings(especially for breakfast fare, which we love!). None of us wanted hash browns(despite all the great reviews of them!), so we asked to substitute fruit instead. There was an upcharge to do this(I think it was $ 2). It took a while to get our food but once it came, we were quite happy with it: the eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon was delicious, and the fruit was fresh. All in all, we were pleased with our meal here, and we’d come back when next in town.

Love Rox’s dinner… PROS: Breakfast is amazing! Although on the slightly more expensive side, the breakfast cannot be outdone. Massive piles of French Toast. Cage free eggs made to order. Home fries are large potato chunks, wonderfully seasoned. Bacon or Turkey sausage! Yumm. I’ve had lunch here a few times as well, and it was equally as good. I prefer the breakfast though. Waitstaff is super friendly. The hostess and waitress were great! CONS: The place is small, relative to how much business it does. Expect to wait, especially on weekends, between 9am-11am. We waited over an hour during our last breakfast visit. The call-ahead seating didn’t do much. I get the impression people call ahead an HOUR in advance, then show up after 70 minutes, and plan to be next. The way Rox does the call-ahead… they keep you on the list even if you’re not there. That’s obnoxious, as our call ahead was for a 20 minute wait, and we showed up in 15 min. They keep going down the list, calling names that weren’t there, each time a table opened. So eventually, the people DID show up way after their call ahead, and we got pushed further and further down the list. People are abusing the system, and this made us consider our approach for the future. If you’re not there for your call ahead, you should be removed, or pushed to the bottom, IMO. TIPS: Go during off-hours. Call ahead an hour in advance, but show up after 90 minutes to not have to wait at all, until they change this policy.

Love this place! I often long for good old-fashioned diner food and Rox really hit the spot. Their breakfast and brunch selection is amazing — the hardest part is deciding what to order. Sweet or savory? Healthy or not? I tried to be good and ordered an omelette, but the french toast looked heavenly.

LOVE the food, truly. But there is a big problem. They allow for«call ahead» service, and there is always a wait. But if you called ahead you go in front of all the people waiting and get a seat. It’s not a reservation, it’s the ability to go ahead of people waiting even if you just called. We waited nearly an hour today outside while many people just walked in. Not how a regular breakfast/lunch place should work!

Whadya mean, 3.5 stars? I’ve come here three times, and it’s been great every time. We’ve had three varieties of eggs benedict and two varieties of hash, and all have been exactly as I’d want. In particular, the hollandaise sauce did not feel heavy or greasy. Portions are large and servers are responsive. I will say that my coffee was a little cold on my most recent visit. The banana chocolate mascarpone pancakes are ridiculous, as their name suggests. Veggie burger is also excellent. Can get quite busy on the weekends – come in early, or save your visit for a weekday.

God bless the place that serves brunch everyday! I almost feel like this place is too good to be true. No longer do I have to wait for the weekend to enjoy a scrumptious eggs benny. The food is delicious. The. Best. Homefries. If you’re getting lunch, the chips are also fantastic. Nice and crispy and well seasoned. Fresh squeezed OJ makes a great start to any day. Service is whatever. Not very attentive, but everyone is friendly. A great breakfast spot!

Breakfast of blahs. Nothing really incredible, nothing really noteworthy. Our booth when we sat down had crayons, paper and other debris all around(floor, booth, ledges) and sticky raisins still on the tabletop. Service was sloppy. Food bland and not inspired.

LOVE — this place is awesome! Great breakfast food. And if you’re looking for something healthy, I love the avocado salad. It is great for my meat-eating husband and me, a vegetarian. Everything is super yummy.(Although we get our coffee across the street to support another small business when we’re in the area.) Highly recommend. Note — the line queues up on the weekend so it’s better to go early. They move fairly quickly though. And I always feel like it’s worth the wait.

This is the most amazing breakfast EVER. My friends and i go here often, and I have shied away from writing a review on Rox, because space is limited. I am not sure what they cook with but its AMAZING. The portions are large, the flavors are symphony in your mouth and the maple syrup is REAL. As far as what to order… I recommend the combo because everything is SOOO good its hard to choose. The omelets are fantastic as well. * if going for combo: I recommend the french toast over pancakes The two downsides– 1)It gets BUSY so there may be a wait on occasion, but very well worth it. 2) Its addictive and not cheap, but very fairly priced for the quality and portions. If you have not had ROX before… Your welcome.

I’ll give Rox Diner a solid 3 stars for a standard breakfast/brunch experience. The omelette I ordered was edible and filling, the coffee was diner weak(as completely expected so no disappointment really), and the service was standard. Pluses: we came in around 11:30 and they were still able to seat us at the bar within 10 minutes. The restaurant itself is cute, good atmosphere. Downsides: Also a small narrow restaurant, so it’s hard to move around or find space even at your table for 2 lined up next to another 5 of the same small size.

Boyfriend and I came in for an semi early breakfast before the whole Mother’s Day rush started… The guy at the front was unorganized there were a few tables open for a party of two but had people waiting. He was about to seat is at a table but changed his mind to the counter/bar area. Apparently there was someone waiting for food or something there because a few waitresses were complaining that their friend was forced to leave. She could of said something that she was sitting there. We didn’t care as long as we got breakfast. Anyways, we ordered eggs benny — pulled pork one and the Alaskan salmon. «Fresh squeeze orange juice» is it really fresh? Who knows… Overall, pretty good, but can’t compare to too many places. I’ll be back, maybe.
