Newport Lost Buoy Hostel

Wow! Very rude and really bad vibes from Benito! I’ve lived in California for 45 years I moved to Junction city Oregon in October of 2015. Never took a Vacation in 7 years! So I decided since I was new here to see what The Oregon Coast was all about. I found Lost Buoy and noticed they like most hostels have a 28 day max stay. Again never taking a vacation in 7 years Benito asked me how long I wanted to stay I said a week maybe 2. He was very negative in his words. Told me this was a place for travelers!!! People stay for a day and leave! What am I a bum? Im from Palm Springs the Desert of all places. I’m 46 non drinker non smoker. I’ve got the handy Hostel Membership card and took my business and bank roll elsewhere. Bad vibes! Its obvious to me that these people aren’t friendly at all. Worst Hostel I’ve ever heard of. You check in and they can’t wait for you to leave. No Bueno Senior Benito. I’d give Zero stars if Icould. I’m spreading the word in the Hostel community and in forums.

This place is amazing, The owners are great the dog is great and it was so nice to have the feeling of home for a few nights, I even stayed an extra night here as I liked it so much! I’d love to go back and visit again sometime. Thanks for a wonderful stay

Best place I ever stayed in. It felt like home with the little dog running around and the cozy comfortable clean beds. Benito was great showed me around town going to the local bar and playing soccer with his friends. I had a great time there will go back 100% and I’m telling all my friends as well. Great place with an awesome 2min walk from a beautiful beach and a 10min walk to the old shore with great food. I felt safe and homie the hole 5 days I spent there and I wouldn’t change a thing.

One of the best, if not the best, hostel experiences I have ever had!
Benito and his wife are two truly kind and hospitable people. I was only able to spend a night with them, but felt like I could spend weeks there. Benito invited myself (and the 3 other travelers staying there) to his friends BBQ, where we all had a blast enjoying clams he had picked that morning.
The facilities were clean and comfortable, just what is needed after spending time is some less forgiving hostel beds. Benito even hooked us travelers up with a midnight showing of Space Jam (best movie ever).

My new favorite hostel! I’ve hit most of them on the west coast and this is by far the sweetest spot, don’t miss it! The surrounding city is rad and the hostel itself is everything I could ask for. Benito is the owner and he is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, he makes sure you are set up and comfortable. The hospitality is off the hook. Rosie the dog offers weary travelers a little free affection, there are only 5 bunks so if you’re like me and hitting your maximum social interaction capabilities there are tons of spots to hide away and chill. My only regret is that I didn’t stay longer.

We only stayed there for one night, however, I really enjoyed staying there. I went there with my girlfriend. It was my first time in a hostel. I didn’t know what to expect. The owner was talkative and nice and they have a sweet dog named Rosie who welcomed us in. The place was clean, bright, and well-​organized. My girlfriend (a hostel regular) especially thought the beds were large and comfortable, compared to other places she has been to. It had a beautiful backyard with an outdoor patio and a hammock on the lawn. The joint dining room and kitchen were large and airy, complete with a piano. You can enjoy your night with a good collection of board games, puzzles, and DVD’s (on a big flat screen tv). It has a nice location in newport close to the main street (I think it was Hwy 101). Both the beach and the aquarium were less than 5 minutes driving. I plan on staying there for my next visit to newport and I certainly recommend it.
