It is not about trying harder. Do you relax just a bit when you read those words? Do you sometimes feel that there is a hole inside that you are trying to fill? Do you hurt because you try really hard and it never feels good enough? You are not alone in feeling this way. I understand what this is about because the answers frequently do not come in the way that we are told or taught that they do. We can believe that it will get better if we just try harder.

All of us have times when it feels as if we cannot cope. We may feel depressed, anxious, helpless, sad and/or angry. We may want to run away, just give up, distract ourselves or blame others. We can hit these times at any period but especially at life transitions — both good and bad — divorce, job change, birth of a child or launching of a child, death of a loved one or even a significant birthday.

I am privileged to work with both individuals and couples. Let me help you improve your relationship with your self and others.

History

Established in 1998.

I have always known that stopping to clean, dress and stitch up your emotional injuries is a key step toward attaining the life that you want. I quickly discovered that counseling is an invaluable way to get help with this process. My private practice is the result of this knowledge.

My initial focus was on women’s relationship with food and their bodies. I work with women using a lasting approach to stop out of control eating so that they can be free of food and body issues. I love to work with emotional eating (Check out the Emotional Eating self test on my website to see if counseling can be helpful) but my business has always included clients who suspect that it is not enough to do the right thing for everyone else and who are unhappy with some or all of their lives. Whether it is in personal or professional relationships, I know that you can get more of what you want at any point in your life. My practice reflects this philosophy as well as my gratitude to my clients.

I know the pain of trying to get it right by meeting others’ expectations. I walked the path of trying harder and harder and finally learned through counseling that that is not how to create a rich satisfying life that matters. I want to help others lessen their pain, stop living like super heroes, gain their own insight, stop giving away pieces of themselves for others’ approval, and live more satisfying lives from the inside out.

When I started this process, I really wanted to know how it was all going to end — what the answer was before I knew the question. I completely understand if you feel unsure and a little frightened but I believe that once you consider that another way may exist, things will align to assist you.

I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist #38 154 and have had a private practice in Newport Beach for approximately ten years. I earned degrees from UCLA, Pepperdine and Stanford University.
