This review is long over-​due. I have been getting my hair done by Katie for a couple of years now. I am a very picky person when it comes to my hair and I had gone to many stylists and have gone to many different salons before then.
I did find Katie very randomly from a Groupon or Living Social deal, I can’t remember which. I get my haircuts, dyes and highlights here. I usually get peek-​a-​boo highlights, which i LOVE because they add some highlights but because of the placement it keeps things low maintenance.
Most recently, I got my first Brazilian Blowout and I really liked it. I have naturally wavy hair and the blowout definitely helped make my hair more manageable and tame.
Katie does a great job with my hair and I love how down to earth she is and doesn’t really pressure me for unneeded treatments or services. I had gone to other stylists before and they’d always pressure me to buy products, get treatments, etc very aggressively.

First time having a Brazilian blowout, turned out great. Katie explained the whole process and gave me an awesome cut!!!

I was lucky enough to get an appointment with Katie a few years back. She does a great job with my longer hair and I completely trust her. She will listen to what you want and tailor it to best fit you. My mom comes here now too! I love how she styles her short hair and it always looks chic! So glad I trusted the Unilocal reviews and wanted to pay it forward.

I came to JM Studio for color correction from a heavy handed, unnatural looking highlight job. She really listened to what I didn’t like about my current hair, what I did, and what I hoped to get from her. She highlighted not quite half a crown and toned my way too light bangs. I could not be happier with the results. My hair looks lighter but in a very natural and classy way. Her many years in the industry is evident by her stellar way with color.
I returned for a Brazilian Blowout and cut the next week. Again, totally happy with the results. I will definitely return to her for all my hair needs. She is a true professional, and good company, which is a definite plus.

I got a Brazilian blowout from Katie about a week ago and LOVED the experience! She was super nice, patient, and professional. She washed my hair three times and took her time throughout the whole process. The treatment itself was amazing as well! My hair is smooth and has no frizz. I also got my nails done (at the same time!) by Rosie. First manicure ever… A+

Katie is an intricate component and a member of my GLAM SQUAD! She has been transforming my hair for many years from my long layers, short A line cuts, color changes and highlights. She knows how to amp up your natural beauty! Plus she now has multiple services under one roof. I recommend her salon (near the OC /​John Wayne airport) if your in need of your own glam squad. Super convenient if your flying in and out of OC or work in the Irvine, South Coast Metro, Newport and Santa Ana area.

Katie is great. I’ve been with her for about a year or two now. She’s always genuine and professional. Prompt to respond to emails and listens to how I’m trying to describe the look I’m going for– even though I must be using the wrong terms. I am always impressed with her technique and product knowledge. Highly recommend.
The studio is also very relaxing with fountains and beautiful succulents outside. Coffee, water provided.

Have you ever been to hair salons where the stylist is really nice and social for the next hour or two, but it doesn’t seem genuine and they’re just acting that way for a good tip? Well, I have encountered several of hairstylists like that, but once I first met Katie, I knew she was genuine. Not only does she always do a great job to my hair, she genuinely wants to always get to know me as a person, not a customer.
For example, when I told her I had a date and I was really nervous and really liked the guy (I came to her to get highlights just for this date — that’s how much I liked this guy), she took an extra step to not only give me highlights, but gave me natural waves when blow drying my hair for me. It took a little bit longer but I looked even more amazing. The wavy locks were free of charge. And so wonderful to say that the two-​year anniversary for my boyfriend and I is coming up, and yes, it is the guy I went on a date with. :)
It is difficult to find such a dedicated, nice, and genuine hair stylist. I found all those qualities and much more in Katie. Hence, the reason why I have been following her everywhere since around 2005? Even came back to her after teaching English in Vietnam for a bit.
I have gotten cuts/​trims, color, touchups, and highlights done by Katie for all these years and it has gotten to the point where I see her as a friend.

I love this salon. JM Studio has a great team of experienced hair stylists. My thick, wavy hair has endured a few bad cuts and colors from less experienced stylists, but I recieved better than expected here. Katie is amazingly talented at understanding your hair texture and the type of cuts it needs. I was beyond ecstatic with my style. Above her talent, Katie is fun and sweet– the perfect combo for choosing your favorite salon and stylist! Love her!

I have been getting my Brazilian blowout for years by Katie Wang. I have tried several different places all over LA, then Phoenix and Chicago where I have lived, and no place compares to the excellent job that Katie does (not to mention that it is also the cheapest place I have found that is actually the real Brazilian blowout). Trust me, she does the best Brazilian blowout at half the cost. I have long, thick, wavy/​curly hair and it remains perfectly straight for at least 3 months, with at least a total of 6 – 9 months of noticeably straighter and softer hair than my usual. My hair looks and feels amazing due to her blowout. I 100% recommend her. She knows exactly what she’s doing, and she’s also really nice and accommodating!

I bought a Groupon for a Brazilian blowout and I was a little nervous because it wasn’t a big salon but I’m so glad I did. My hair is amazing. I love my haircut and I’m 100% happy with the results and I’m super picky. I knew from when Katie started shampooing my hair she was a perfessional and had lots of experience. I will be returning.

I am very picky about hairstylists and have been through many. I’ve always had long hair and decided to make a drastic change and cut it short. The thing about stylists are that they can have great skill but not have the vision or be able to interpret your verbal description or a photo to match what you want. I came in with a photo and Katie created exactly what I wanted and more. I am beyond happy. Thank you Katie!

Before coming to see Katie I had «Virgin» hair as many people would call it. It has never been dyed or touched with chemicals. I thought it was time for a change so my cousin recommended Katie. My cousin has been going to Katie for years to get her hair colored and cut and I’ve always liked the results.
The day of my appointment I brought in various pictures and Katie was able to find a good medium between all of them. Let me just say, Katie is very personable and overall very genuine. She really wants you to look your best!
We decided on highlights with layers and side bangs. The whole process lasted about 2 hours and I was extremely satisfied with the results. Since it was my first time getting my hair colored my fear was that the highlights would be too light. The highlights came out perfect, still dark with the hint of light color. Katie did say that the highlights would get lighter overtime as I spend more time in the sun. I’ve had my highlights now for about 4 months and I’m getting use to the idea of highlights in my hair and I actually want lighter highlights!
Katie took the time to advise me on how to manage my hair and keep the color. She also gave me tips on styling.
Overall Katie was great to work with and I will be coming back really soon to get a touch-​up, time for a new hair style for the Fall!

Absolute best hairstylist in town! Look no further! I have been going to Katie for 10 years now since I was in college. Despite living in different states and countries, I always go back to Katie to get my hair done. I go to her for all my hair needs including highlights, color. root touch ups, and for haircuts. She is the queen of highlighting and it comes out flawless each time. Additionally, she uses top notch coloring products that never dry out my hair.
I am a perfectionist when it comes to my hair and Katie exceeds all my expectations each time. She is extremely professional, attentive, and skilled. I can’t say enough good things about Katie. Her prices are amazing and you can’t get a better deal for the top quality hair service you will receive.

Highly recommended! I try to get to Katie every 6 – 8 weeks. She is awesome and a very professional! Great colorist and her cuts are spot in! What I like is that she does not try to sell me on highlights every time. Quality products as well. My hair is very fine and she is able to my over dried sun damaged drab hair look soft and full of life.

I initially went to Katie based on a recommendation from a friend a few years ago and I have stuck with her ever since. She has cut, colored, given me highlights and most recently, gave me a beach wave. I’ve always been happy with my hair after having her work on it and often get compliments when I got out and from the women at work. Katie is very professional and meticulous when working on your hair. She’s a great listener and gives you exactly what you want but will give her two cents when you’re worried or uncertain about something.

When I moved back to Orange County, my mom recommended Katie Wang to me. I have been getting Brazilian Blowouts for 3 years now and out of all the people I have tried, Katie’s blowouts are the best. My eyes don’t tear up and my scalp doesn’t burn during the treatment like it has with other hairstylists. She also trims my hair and, although I always keep the same simple cut, she knows what is best for my fine hair.
My favorite thing about getting my hair done by Katie is that I don’t feel that awkward pressure to make small talk the entire time. I’m a somewhat reserved person and she lets me read my kindle or study while she does my hair. It makes for a much more relaxing experience than 4 hours of forced talking — which always leaves me exhausted! Highly recommended!

Katie Wang is incredibly talented, kind, and professional– an artist in my opinion.
Katie is very flexible and always finds a way to squeeze in my last minute requests. She is sweet and personable– More like a friend than someone I see but once every few months. We have deeper conversations than the norm, but you know that we have those boy talks too! And Katie always finds a way to revitalize and re-​sexify my hair after months of damage. I very much appreciate that she NEVER cuts more than I ask for– As many, many stylists will do!
