I teach cooking classes in Newport Beach at The Harbor Christian Church, on Monday evenings from 6 – 9:30pm. This is a «regional cooking class». I divided the US into 11 cooking regions. We cook a menu full of classic dishes from each region for each class. The eleven regions are: New England, Mid Atlantic, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Rocky Mts and Plains, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, California, Southwest, and The South, The menus are 5 – 7 courses. This is not a demonstration or observing class by any stretch… We all cook the meal. We all cook together, and then enjoy a fabulous meal together «family style.» Bring your favorite beverage, wine or spirits… I’ll take care of the rest! Let’s Cook and Eat the USA!!! Cost is $ 60. Come by yourself bring a date, or book a group class! My students have always enjoyed the camaraderie as much as the food.

History

Established in 2014.

I started renting the kitchen at Harbor Christian Church In April of 2014. My first class launched on April 7th. Nearly all classes have been filled since I started my little venture. This is a real gift from God.

I am a Certified Chef. I own a small food line called Food du Jar. I can natural sauces, dressings, and pestos. My Grandmothers last name was Jahr, pronounced Jar. We grew up in Minnesota. She taught me how to preserve food by hot canning when I was 5 years old. So the name of the company has her name in spirit. I also do catering, Balboa Island Catering.

I love to teach though. Most people think making delicious food is complicated. I love to see the look on their face after they have made their own pizza dough or pasta. My classes take the mystery out of food prep. We insist on having fun! Food preparation and eating together brings people together and bonds are formed.
