Specialties

We are a developmental preschool with goals that are appropriate for children 2– through 5 years of age.

Our purpose has always been to provide an atmosphere that helps young children develop good feelings about themselves as a basis for loving others. We have been part of the ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall since 1967. Our emphasis is nurturing in each child a sensitivity towards each other, the environment, and the world around us. Our staff is qualified with both experience and education in Early Childhood Education as required by the California Department of Social Services. Our loyal staff have taught at Little Shepherd’s from 8 to 17 years.

Manager

Miss Jj graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development. She has been in the Early Childhood profession for over 38 years; working with infants up to 5 year olds. Miss Jj has been teaching at Little Shepherd’s Nursery School in 1997.

She holds a Child Development Program Director Permit, and is our site Director.

Not only does this school deserve 5 stars it also deserves a gold medal! I bring my 3yr old here and it’s been nothing but positive outcomes since the start. The compassion and attention to the children truly shows. We will be signing up for this next coming semester, without a question. Thank you to the entire staff of Little Shepard’s for making a unique and memorable first year of school!

I could not be more pleased with this school. My daughter loved her experience and my son just started! Today they painted giant cardboard boxes in the yard and they will be making them into a fire truck and a house. He was in heaven. It’s so awesome to watch my little ones learn and grow in an environment that understands how important it is to be hands on and to explore and create. The teachers are so loving and care for each student and their own individual educational journey. Just go check out the yard. The playground with the wide open grass, sandbox and big beautiful trees is what sold me. Not to mention they get to see watch the train go by from afar everyday. They think that’s the best!

We found this preschool by chance while driving by on the way to the DMV. So happy we did. Both my girls go to Miss JJ’s class and love it. Every time I pick them up they have a big smile in their face and can’t wait to show me their artwork. The school hours are 9am to 12pm with extended hours as needed from 12pm to 3 pm. The rates are great, especially when you have two kids attending (sibling discount offered). The best part is the shaded and nice (fully fenced in) front yard with lots of play equipment and beautiful old trees. The kids learn through play, with lots of artwork, singing and fun. Highly recommend Little Shepherd’s!

This is THE BEST preschool in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is a traditional preschool in the perfect sense of the word. It is based on play and socialization (although the kids do «learn» what they need to know in kinder). The prices are reasonable and the staff is so caring and experienced. You cannot find a better school! My boys (now 10 and 8) went there and my daughter is starting her second year. I can’t imagine sending my kids anywhere else! :)

Both of my children went here for their pre-​school years … from about 2005 – 2008. It’s truly one of the best kept secrets in SCV! They learn by play, they offer great hours (and extended hours!) and my children loved attending.
As a parent, I knew they were getting what they needed to get ready for K, but also a whole lot of FUN and love. Seriously– BEST KEPT SECRET.

This school is a hidden gem. My daughter started when she was 2 and I was afraid she would cry everyday when being dropped off since that’s normally what kids that age do when transitioning from home to a school setting, however my daughter only cried the first two days then she was excited to go to school. They have an affordable 3 or 5 day program and offer after hour care as well. The classes are small which gives the teacher 1 on 1 time with each student. For those kids that are not fit for the 1 teacher to 30 kids. However durning breaks they do play with other classrooms which is perfect for the child that loves to interact with a lot of kids. My daughter had learned a lot and will be back in the Fall.
Ps. At the end of the school year they received a «ME» book their teacher puts together of some of their artwork and pictures of them throughout the year! Cutest thing ever.

I’m almost hesitant to write a review for Little shepherds because I want to keep it all for myself. Fortunately, my preschooler has taught me all about sharing… ;) This place is incredible. The staff is warm and caring and form a personal relationship with the children and parents. The teaching covers fundamentals but also embraces free play and art. The grounds are incredible, with enormous trees for the children to play under. I can’t be effusive enough to adequately explain how dear this school is to me. All I can say is when my children graduate there won’t be a dry eye in the house.
