This is the best Portuguese bakery in New Jersey. I don’t think you can go wrong here. Anything and everything made here is hands down amazing. The egg custard cups and coffee are A MUST! I never leave here without a box of pasteis de natas! You will regret if you don’t.

The pasteis de nata are to die for. Flaky, crispy and just the right amount of sweetness. And did I mention creamy? I also had an almond custard thing which was alright but the real star of the show were the pasteis de nata. The people behind the counter were rude and glared at you without saying anything while waiting for you to order. The location in ironbound is clustered but the fact that a lot of people come here just for the bakery is a testament to how good the custards are.

The bread and desserts are always fresh and tasty. The coffees are always delicious and the employees are extremely nice. This is the best Portuguese bakery around.

Awesome Portuguese bakery. Probably the best egg tarts I have had. Other cakes and pastries are good as well. They also have a daily soup special for around $ 5. Portion is good and it comes with a roll.

I am looking for egg tarts and this place is the top Unilocal result for egg tarts in Newark. 1 tart is $ 1.35 or you can get 1 dozen for $ 13.99 including tax. The egg tarts were delicious — flaky crust and custard that is not too eggy or sweet. There is a nice chewy paste at the bottom of the custard that acts like a raincoat. This paste prevents the flaky bottom from getting soggy. I have not tried the egg tars from other bakeries in the area so I can’t compare, but this place’s is very good.

My Boyfriend and I were going to a Easter dinner, we decided to buy Portuguese egg starts I was very dissappointed. specially the almolds and the one is called«feijão». The taste of the eggs was so strong then in my fist bite you could taste it. It seems like they don’t mix the ingredients. Very dissappointed !!!

Outstanding Portuguese bakery. I enjoyed the many different pastries I bought and brought a big selection to friends who raved about them. Excellent!

Gawsh egg custard cups will be the death of me. Such a classy bakery in the heart of Ferry Street with a dizzying variety of fresh baked goods. But I typically leave with a box of 6 pasteis de nata and coffee. Though I’ll make an effort to try some of their delicious looking breads and pastries as well! Their croissants are huge and fluffy, they have fruit cakes, rolls, and just an amazing selection of everything you can think of. Plus the ladies there are sweet :]

I came to this lovely bakery while passing through IronBound. I had no idea what I was ordering but i got the Pasteis de nata(egg custard tart), an empanada(I think it had chicken filling), and a pasteis bacalau(I think it was stuffed with cod). All were excellent. Unfortunately, I came at 5 pm so everything was cold or sitting out for a few hours. They have a microwave, which I should have taken advantage of. Overall, a nice little bakery in the middle of a quaint section of IronBound.

Lord help my waistline. Teixeira is what dreams are made of. Unilocalers were raving about the pasteis de nata(egg custard tarts) so I had to check it out. Once I stepped in and took a look around my heart(and tummy) did a little happy dance. Shelves filled with bread. Cases filled with delicious looking pastries. Did I die and go to heaven? You will walk in and probably want to order everything. Whatever you do get, make sure you in the very least order an egg custard. Or 2. Or 5. I’m no expert, but these were the best egg custards I have ever had HANDSDOWN. How do they make the crust that flakey and crunchy? Even the bottom. THEBOTTOMWASCRUNCHY. I think magic. The egg custard is creamy, rich and lightly sweet, but not too«eggy». The first time I went in(yes I went more than once in a week, don’t judge me) I ordered 6 egg custards, a sausage and cheese sandwich, 1 sweet bread and 1 beef empanada.(Okay now you can judge). All of that for under $ 15. Yes, seriously. The egg custards have disappeared in my house(within a day and a half). The sandwich was not what I was expecting, but nonetheless, excellent. Next time I will order it hot; they have a Panini press for such things. The empanada was yummy, and I forgot how much I like sweet bread until I had this one. Second visit I ordered a dozen egg custards because I love the fambam that much(and they loved the egg custards), as well as a coconut pastry that resembles a cinnamon bun. No idea what the name of it is, but YUMYUM! Also, you will want to order coffee with whatever you get. That was the mistake I made the first time. Literally everything I got was begging to be eaten with coffee. Take two found me with coffee in hand to accompany my coconut-y, sticky bun goodness. Customer service was excellent. The women behind the counter quickly work through the line of people, but somehow not make you feel rushed. They were also great for answering the many questions I had. Price was definitely on point. They don’t have prices displayed, but don’t worry; you won’t drop a fortune here. From the outside it’s easy to walk right past this place. It’s on Ferry St. right near the corner of Van Buren right next to the Investors Bank so keep an eye out when you’re driving around.

I usually drop by here every few months on my way home from Penn Station in Newark. The only thing I get here is the pasteis de nata, commonly known as the egg tart. Personally, I’ve always preferred the Portuguese egg tarts to the Chinese kind(sorry mom). The crust is flakier and the slightly charred top adds a little something extra. The egg tarts here are pretty amazing — probably the best you can get in the NYC/NJ area. The egg tarts here are also cheap, $ 1.25 for one and $ 7 for 6. Although, one time my sister and I didn’t have enough cash and she flirted with the guy at the counter and he only charged us $ 11 for a dozen. All in all if you’re in the hood, it’s a great place to drop in and grab some dessert. It’s ~10 blocks away from the train station, the perfect distance to walk off an egg tart.

I don’t normally go to Newark, but if I ever do, it is for the Portuguese egg tarts. They were the best Portuguese egg tarts I have ever had. They definitely know how to make them. I kept getting more and more because I wanted to bring them back to my friends and family. And they still taste delicious days after as long as you put them in the fridge and toast them. I usually come here either for a galão(similar to a latte) or good ol’ Portuguese soup! They have a different soup each day! Teixeira’s has always been great, but the fact that they now accept credit cards and have parking available(Kossuth St. location) makes the place even better. No parking on Ferry St, but that’s expected. Life! Today was Three King’s Day, so my family picked up a Bolo Rei(Portuguese style King Cake). We usually eat a couple of these sweet bread cakes during Christmas and the weeks that follow. Ok, we eat more than a couple! The cake is topped with candied fruit and powdered sugar. I’ve tried different king cake styles, and I really like Bolo Rei. Growing up, I thought this cake was on the dry side, but it’s definitely not as dry as Panettone(Italian Christmas cake). It’s also not as sweet as Mardi Gras King Cake. I might sound a bit biased, but it’s just right! haha Anyways, Teixeira’s only makes it during the holidays, so I had to get my fix today.

Cute Portuguese bakery in the ironbound area. Filled with bread and parties each day. Tried many different pastries along with some empanadas and croquettes. The pastries were good, and everything was very affordable. Nothing was spectacular though.

The custard cups are little bites of heaven. I wouldn’t now if they keep well in the fridge or overnight because they don’t last longer than 15 minutes before my family devours them. We can buy dozens and there still won’t be leftovers. I’m not sure how any of there other goods are since we only get the custard cups, but I’m sure they’re delicious too.

Just these 3 little words will suffice… PASTEISDENATA. I don’t know why I never knew about this pastry sooner. There aren’t enough words to describe the delicious custardy goodness. You’ll have to come and try them for yourself! They also have a number of other pastries, but they don’t hold a candle to the custard pastries. Having said that, the bread pudding was amazing too.

Two words: Custard Cups There should honestly be no other reason of coming here unless you have one of the following: the need for something authentic that must be paired with coffee or that you believe in dessert before all other meals. Teixeira has been here for years, and in this closely knit community of Portuguese, Brazilians, and other Latinos, it makes sense as to why parking around here is outta control. So, when in Newark, you just double park and leave your blinkers on, and you’re good to go — this is exactly what I did, and you know what, the bakery angels watched my car for me. I got two boxes, a dozen in each, one for my work(because I’m a nice boss) and one for my friend’s house warming party later that day. Just holding the warm boxes in my arms felt like they gave me a warm hug — AWWWWWW! My whopping grand total between the two dozen, a small coffee, and a guava pastry puff(absolutely heavenly!) came out to about $ 30. That is a pretty sweet for a place that has as much foot traffic as it does for the morning. Custard Cups — I will have you again very soon!

First time here. Aesthetically pleasing inside, friendly staff, delicious pastries, and affordable price! We got the nata pastry and carrot muffin. Very yummy! I went a few more times after my first visit. Again, friend staff and delicious pastries!

Absolutely hit the jackpot by being so close to this spot… walking distance actually. Mondays I come by for my Caldo verde soup(collard greens, chorizo, smashed potatoes) and their Portuguese bread. So warm, so good. The best part is the size. It’s filling and only $ 2.50! For lunch I usually go for a sandwich– Portuguese sausage, ham, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, with a little bit of mayo on a toasted Portuguese roll. They have the panini machine so you can get it flattened. It’s delicious. All the bread is fresh and I found the location where the magic happens not too far from this location. But because this is the one I frequent more often, I decided it deserved my 5 star review. It’s difficult not buying all the pastries at once but the pasteis de nata have been my favorite. They are delicious and I make sure to stack up on them before the weekend comes. The women running this spot are so sweet. I’ve never had any issues. They are so welcoming and friendly. There’s plenty of seating available to stay and eat. Sometimes there’s a wait and other times you’ll be in and out but either way you’re leaving happy… trust me! :)
