For the price you’re paying, it’s not worth it! I’d rather go to Red Robbins for some what a similar food. I love the staff here, they’re always so nice and welcoming, like really. The service is excellent. But the food does not meet the standards. The ambience is sorta a disappointment because it’s Newark, most of the restaurants are running nice and have a standard. But I guess they don’t really put an effort to meet them. If you’re driving by and seem to have an urge to eat FISH&CHIPS. Just keep driving.

I hate to bash this place. because it’s clean and the owners are very nice and friendly .they also TRY .I think the problem with this food is the batter and whatever oil they are using .the batter on the fish It’s more like a Japanese batter used on pork cutlets .it doesn’t compliment the fish well… the shrimp’s flavor breaks through but not by much .the fries or chips rather, suffer from flavor because the oil used adds to the blandness of the flavor .the fish isn’t cod. probably cheap talapia. which is OK in most instances at other places but not here. so unfortunately now when I want true English fish n chips I have to go to Hayward.

This place is not good save yourself the trip and don’t go. I had fish and chips. Both were very bland and dry. It was like eating cardboard. The ketchup, tartar sauce, and salt shaker did not help.

OMG… the owners can only cook 1 order at a time. 2 of us here. 46 minutes to get my order, I have no clue how long it took the guy that was here before me, as he was waiting when I came in. Another couple came in and they had ordered their food on the phone and it still was not cooked when they arrived. When I finally was able to get my order and leave, the food was ok. Nothing that I can’t live without. I found it ridiculous that I had to pay $ 1.50 for tarter sauce though

Love how this mom/pop fish n chip joint is labeled as «British» food. Most fish n chip places out here in the bay are usually owned/operated by Asian families. So it won’t be unusual to also find rice plates on their menus. But I never venture in for those. I only come for food immersed in molten grease, and this place does just that, quite nicely I must add. Fish n Chips are super basic here. Pollack fish is used, which is not a high end fish by any means, but it is also so non-offensive that it strictly does its job. The batter is quite sturdy here, it will crack and crunch, which is protocol. You do have to salt and vinegar that mofo, but again that is protocol. Fries are frozen steak fries, they do their job as well. But what gets me to come back is that a 2 piece fish n chips is less than 8 bucks, and will crush that quarterly fried food craving. Tried a combo basket once and found that to be quite satisfying. Fried shrimp was quite nice. Fried Scallop just okay. Fried oyster(breaded instead of battered) was quite appropriate. This basket is only round $ 9. Also tried their fried vegetables and they are fried to order, so the batter is fresh and the vegetables are piping hot. Zuccini, mushrooms, onion rings and broccoli all lend their unique traits to this sampler. Clean oil is also to be commended. You’re not going to get any stellar service from this place but you will get the right product for a good price. Especially if that product happens to swim in bubbling hot fat, then I’ll say you’ve come to the right place.

This is not good food. Everything is over-fried, Super greasy. You can see the kitchen from the counter and is very filthy. Not even the fries are good, they’re soggy, the taste is bland. The people here are nice but their food isn’t. I tried the fish and chips but didn’t like it… give it a try and see for yourself but you have been warned!

Ugh, the people are nice… Other than that; the greasy, over fried and crumbly«fish» we received was pretty heinous. Even my «chips» were gross. We ordered the BEEF lumpia to try and there was NOBEEF… «Where’s the beef??!» It was onion… Gross. My coworker order«chicken» … She got a 9 lb. Basket of breading. We won’t return and I am seriously worried I will kissing the porcelain thrown later… Dodge a financial bullet and lick the pavement instead.

These reviews here must be fake or paid or something. There is no freaking way this place is anything but 1 star!!! I used to go here alot when I was young, how much have things changed since then. I’m utterly disappointed at the lack of effort by the owner. I ordered the fried oysters with fries plus a side of fish filet. The oysters were tasteless, really dry and small(size of a pea). More importantly, the fries also lacked salt and any hint of potato. This implicates one thing, all the stock at the store is simply not fresh and cheap grade. Yet, they charge you full price!!! I’m usually all for supporting local businesses, DON’T GOHERE

Wow, what’s with all the fake reviews? This place does not deserve anything more than 0 stars, I’m just forced to give it 1. My boyfriend wanted to take a trip down memory lane since he said this place was good when he was in middle school(he’s graduated college now). But boy, does it friggen suck tarter sauce. We ordered a fish and seafood combo. It came out quick because we were the only ones there *this should’ve been the first red flag*. We love fried oysters but this was far from what it should be. The first bite in – super dry and flavorless. The oysters itself were TEENYTINY and not fresh. I’m convinced all their seafood is bought frozen from a grocery store or something. Anyways, the scallops were also small. The fish though, was huge but completely tasteless. McDonald’s probably has better filets than that. The fries were over fried with no potato character. To sum it all up, I just felt like we were eating batter the entire meal. Bottom line? DON’T COMEHERE! I’m Vivian L., and I approve this message.

I have eaten here before and I decided to write a review because my family tends to eat a lot of fish during Lent. When I go here I usually get the shrimp n fish. I am picky when it comes to batter, I like a thick batter and I am not really a fan of breaded fish. This place offers that thick batter that I am looking for. The fish pieces are huge and so are the prawns. They use my favorite kind of fries, steak cut fries. The tarter sauce is also a must! I have only tried the fried mushrooms but they are decent for as much as fried veggies can get. Only thing I would say is that every thing the last time I went was really oily. I know you are thinking, well duh it’s fried. But it feels like they didn’t drain the food after they fried it. Otherwise still good enough for me plus it’s in the area.

Came here on a Thursday afternoon at around 3pm. Thankfully we had beaten the lunch rush here as from about 11−1ish it gets pretty busy here. The place is family owned which is always great to know. The menu was very organized and our order was kindly taken promptly. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was absolutely delicious! Had a combo b which came with a soda, fries, 2 fishes and 4 prawns. They were perfectly battered and fried to perfection! Have to give this place a try! May not look like the most upscale restaurant, but they really serve up some good food! Overall, great food, super friendly service and overall a great establishment. Will be back!

I have been going here for roughly a year and a half. Each time I went, I was very pleased. Once, since the lady behind the counter remembered me ordering a lot, she offered a free soda, and I gladly accepted. I always order number 5. They do not use imitation meat. It is as real as can be! I love everything there! Service, food, and a place to eat!

As mentioned by another reviewer, it’s hard to find a strictly«Fish & Chips» in the Tri-City area. Some friends recommended this place, warning us not to expect«ambiance» but fairly decent Fish & Chips. Tried in once and Yes! We LOVE their FISH&CHIPS! The fish is VERY flavorful(I asked and was told they serve Alaskan pollack). Generous chunks of fish and fries taste very fresh and are served piping hot. THIS keeps us coming back at least once a week. FAR from fancy; very basic. Be prepared to wipe off the plastic containers that hold the Ketchup and vinegar. BIGPLUS: Staff/owners(?) are courteous, friendly and eager to please.

I had this weird craving for fish and chips. What better place to go then 101 fish and chips. I have bought fish and chips with them before and yes i do agree with other users that they do not add salt in the food. But yesterday after i placed my order i did notice a small table with salt and some forks. After i got my food i just simply added salt to it. Overall im very impressed by service and food quality.

This was the worst fish and chips we have EVER had! The fish was dry and tasteless, even the tartar did not help. The fries were undercooked and terrible. I don’t recommend this place.

Been going here for years, but this is first time I went on a no meat Friday, and it was busyyyyy, they had 6 people there compared to the two they usually have. I ordered: seafood combo(4 scallops, 4 oysters and a bed of chips): this was horrendous, the scallops were cut in halfs or quartered, looked more like scallop/oyster poppers than anything. I’ve ordered this before and they were hugeee now this? I was shocked none the less. Veggie combo(2 onion rings, 2 zucchini, 2 mushrooms and 2 florets of broccoli): this was good, fully cooked in the middle and crunchy on the outside wayyyy better than the skimped seafood poppers I received above… Will I come back? Yes probably, when it’s less busy.(apparently they can’t handle the heat of a busy restaurant)

It’s really hard to find a specific fish and chip shop. Nowadays when it comes to ordering fish and chips you it’s either in a pub, seafood restaurant, or a fast food place. I’ve been coming here for almost more than 10 years. I can honestly say every time I come here I’ve never been disappointed. Ordering fish and chips here is much cheaper than ordering at a pub or a seafood restaurant. This place has a lot of varieties of seafood. I can’t give it five stars because I think this place has too many non-seafood items(although I have ordered these in the past). Even though the battered items include scallops, prawns, and oysters but the main item is the fish. The batter has that crunchy crispiness that is desired on a fish and chip. The chips in the past weren’t all that great as they were oily and soggy. But this place has greatly improved their chips as they are now crunchy. Besides having too many non-seafood items I wish they would use different types of white fish — I presume they use cod — such as catfish, turbot, halibut, or tilapia however that maybe asking a lot. If I had one other choice of white fish it would be catfish. Other than that if you are craving for fish and chips without the hassle of going to a pub, seafood restaurant, or a fast food place I highly recommended coming here.

I don’t know what is up with the 5-star rating, but this place isn’t 5 stars to me. I checked out this place because I was in the mood for some fish and chips. I’ve driven pass this place every now and then for years and I was always a bit curious as to how this place still exists when so many other fish and chips joints have closed. So I checked it out on Unilocal and saw some positive ratings and thought I would give this place a try. I ordered the SEAFOODSPECIAL, which came with 1 fish, 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, and 2 oysters with chips. I also ordered the MIXEDVEGGIES, which came with 2 mushrooms, 2 broccoli, 2 zucchini sticks, and 2 onion rings. As for a beverage or something to drink, I was really disappointed that they only had canned drinks for $ 1(Though they had a fountain machine, it must be decommissioned). The only alternative I was offered was«tap» water. So I took the tap water. My got my order and it looked great. It came with tartar sauce on the side. The malt vinegar and ketchup were in the refrigerator(along with the canned soda). I smothered my meal with the malt vinegar. I liked the fact that the vinegar was in the squeeze bottle which made it easier to come out. Rather than telling you my entire experience… just let me say that overall I was greatly disappointed of this place. For one, all the veggies I had were not fresh and looked like they’ve were sitting in the fridge for a while(I guess batter has a great way of hiding certain imperfections). The broccoli was not vibrant green but was turning yellow to brown around the crown area and the mushrooms were browning to mushy. The zucchini was OK, but had no flavor and the onion rings had most of its flesh cooked to dry. I felt I was eating an onion peel dipped in batter. As for the fish… where do I begin? Well the oysters were not freshly made in any way. First it was breaded and not battered(not consistent with the other fried items). Also the oysters had a hint of freezer burn… but you know what they say, «everything tastes good fried»(am I right?). The scallops were also frozen, but I believe these were dipped in batter before being fried. They were good, BUT the scallops were a bit thin… or must have shrunk while cooking. The shrimp were actually good(best part of the meal, I was sad that there was only 2). I ate tail and all. Now for the fish… the fish had a weird batter. On the outside it looked consistent with the batter from the shrimp and the veggies, but inside it looked as if the fish was dipped in batter, frozen, then dipped in batter again just before being placed in the fryer. So what you get is a thick looking piece of fish that looks great on your plate but when you bite into it you have flimsy batter-skin and, come to find out, a poor sample of fish. The vinegar and tartar sauce helped the overall flavor. Though, I was surprise to see that they charged an extra $.25 for additional tartar sauce. Really? Again, I was greatly disappointed. And to top it all off… they gave me tap water,(which I knew when they told me when I asked for water instead of paying $ 1 for the can of soda), WITHNOICE!!! Who does that! This place does! So I leave my experience to all you Unilocalers. I really wanted this place to work out because I’ve been looking for a great fish and chip joint in the tri-city area. But I guess I will have to make a trip out to Fairfield and visit GLORYFISHANDCHIPS.

I’ve been coming here randomly for as long as I can remember. As the years have gone past, so has the quality. I love the fact that this is a family owned business, but the fish and chips are just average in my book. It just doesn’t have that«WOW» factor I was hoping to get. Don’t get me wrong, the fish was flaky, batter was crunchy, and the fries were average… I just wish this place would step out of the box and try out different batter recipes. Staff is very friendly, seating area was fairly clean, and wait time was average. Just don’t expect the worlds greatest fish and chips here… everything is average or as Unilocal star rating would say«A-OK».
